OK – think I’m getting the idea of subjectivity of scores.

Doing it later. Never had any stats before so all new to me.

I guess i thought there might be some averages. E.g. If i was timing someone running a 100m, irrespective of individual person’s size etc, you’d know that 100m ran in 13secs is good compared to it ran in 50secs…

Aracer – are your wheels clean? Cos I bet they spread all kinds of stuff over the land you cycle. How about the way your bike was made – lot of polutants in the process…i wonder if your bike drips oil at all…how about when you drive to your bike ride..spreading noxious fumes everywhere…we all do bad things so I suggest getting upset about a bit of dog poo is pretty ignorant to our own dirty habits…

I never realised Brighton was that far south – it’s dark on our night rides up here in the north…

I think we need a bit more love and tolerance in the world….OP, poo on the path? Considering the worlds problems? Really worth getting het up about? Just another obstacle to ride over/round surely…

JEngelow – you’re not soft. The vast majority of people on here told you to tell the buyer to jog on. However, that didn’t change your mind and you stuck to your own convictions. Good on yer….

Bought this recently – very bright and seems pretty sturdy.

Just seen you want metal – ignore above then. It’s plastic.

Generally, when you take out the current bearings they’ll be stamped with model etc. Then you’ll know which ones to purchase…You’ll be able tell if it is the bearings because they’ll run rough when you spin them in your fingers…(if you haven’t heard this already with the wheel freewheeling in its frame)..

Just out of curiosity – all those biking vids of trials riders doing stunts in the street etc. Always lots of people around. Are they tossers or heroes?

I got given a Tesco hand pump pressure sprayer for the garden and realised it could be used for the bike too. It works perfectly – cleans the bike at the trail side before putting in car. £10. I’d see no reason to buy an electronic one…

Audible from Amazon has a free trial. You can download a podcast for free. I downloaded a guided meditation by Bodhipaksa a while back which I really liked. I think audio stuff is hit n miss – it’ll depend if you like the voice/style. Hence a free trial is useful. Meditation/timeout etc is a big part of a healthy lifestyle – but very hard to get into a routine of – I struggle to.

I grew up with a step dad. I know I was horrible to him at times(as emotionally mixed up step kids can be) but he never wavered in his support for me. As an adult with kids of my own I’m totally humbled to think how he treated me when i was a b****** to him. I hope I can treat my kids the way he treated me….

Whilst the view is great, I always take the view (scuse the pun) that unless you own the land then anything could be built upon said view. Green belt, for example, is constantly being renegotiated by councils to deal with housing crisis….

Is he unhealthy (medically and not to your idea of what healthy is)? I’m trying to guage your perception of why he needs to do more sports. If he is unhealthy then you’ve got to find something that’ll interest him that he wants to do. If he’s not unhealthy – then all’s good right? Couldnt ask for anything better…he’s his own person and if he doesn’t want to be sporty that shouldn’t be something to worry about…

Scandal42 – have a mate who wanted to open a morning porrige stand at Victoria/Euston/Paddington etc. He couldn’t get anywhere near the platforms because of extortionate rents. It was a case of pay the fees or get lost. The rent fees made it unprofitable…

I recently had a few problems with ITunes syncing and Batfink is right about the new icon and different options.

Also, I got ITunes helpdesk to ring me to sort a different problem out. They rang me and we were on the phone for an hour (I’d well and truly scuppered my Itunes when I’d moved all my folders around on my pc). Very helpful and totally free….

Cheers Op for responses. To answer your original question then. I think we need to tackle individual and societal issues to try to make things better. Re welfare state. I think it’s a minority sponging and it doesn’t really bother me. I’m happy to pay taxes for that small amount of people. There are far bigger causes that I wish the government would spend their time and energy on to save money for us e.g. corporate tax evaders (they cost me far more than a few benefit scroungers)…

Op – I know you are. I think my perspective is that I’ve yet to come across some one who at some point in their life, when everything has been going fine, has just chosen to not work. The section of people your talking about have generally been born into an environment of negativity, low aspirations, low education, parents in prison, poverty etc etc and it just spirals and then you get generations of low self esteem and unemploymen etc. So the question then becomes about what to tackle, the individual or society. The people you talk about, what’s their life story been? Positive or negative?

Question for you OP since you do know these people. Why do you think they choose not to work?

OP – out of curiosity. These people you talk about in your area. How do you KNOW they are fit to work but are choosing not to? Do you know them personally? If you don’t know them, what are you basing this assumption on? How they look? How they behave? They can walk so surely they can work?

If you really don’t want anything materialistic – have an experience like others have suggested and also ask friends/family to donate some money to a charity of your choice….(if they insist on paying something for your birthday)..

Chewk – in response to your earlier post. Why a leftie. If you were to label me, I’d be one. Why? The inequality in this world is horrible, born out of power and privilege. Success is always on the back of other people’s misfortune or money or provided opportunity. I aspire to the values of social equality, social justice and anti-discrimination. The world would be a great place if that was achieved. Sadly, current neo-liberal politics is going further and further away from that ideology…

My interpretation of high levels (for when I researched side effects) was between 500mg and 1000mg a day depending on need…

I had to take a fair amount for a shoulder injury – over duration of about 8 months. Took it with stomach lining pills as recommended by doctor. No funny spells (that I was aware of!). But, because I was concerned about the high levels I was taking I researched about side effects. Scared me a little. It’s really strong stuff that if you take too much can really screw up your liver and rot your stomach.. Be careful with it…

    Hi,

Like someone else has said – we’ve had a similar experience – but you’ll only have similar and never identical. You guys must do what’s right for you and not think about what other people are doing. Thinking about what others have done will do your heads in – every situation is unique.

Reading your post again I’ve not really answered your question. In trying too though – whilst there are gadgets and stuff to help show you where trails are – unless you’re specifically following a GPS track, if you’re on new ground you’ll always be stopping lots no matter how good your map reading is. On a bike you travel so quickly over ground there’s only so many map features you can remember before having to get the map out for another look…
