A few years back my other half and I decided to focus on what we really wanted from life i.e. happy family life balance with our children(not working long hours), time to keep healthy, live in an area we wanted to be (not the city etc) …that meant we have since tried to make our decisions based on these values (which essentially came down to earning less money and understanding we wouldn’t be at the top of the career tree anymore)- less money means we do have to have a smaller house and mortgage, cheaper cars, cheaper holidays, cheaper bikes etc…but we wouldn’t change it for the world. Feels good not to focus our lives into the workplace….

For those posters who’ve been on this thread a while – do you get annoyed at newbies asking the same questions without looking for the answers first?

I’ve just started scrolling through the start of this thread for more info and seen the answers to my questions on the first page! Doh….

    @bumpy – Cheers. Sounds great.

Not a roadie, but I had noticed with Sufferfest that I didn’t mind what discipline I watched as long as it took my mind of the pain! :D

@TSC I think you’ve answered my question thanks. I’ve only ever followed Sufferfest videos on the turbo.

Ok, so, I can watch a cycling video on YouTube at the same time but it won’t be related to power efforts like Sufferfest has been.

Any recommendations then of good videos to watch? Or do people watch cycling unrelated videos?

    Cheers…

    Hi all,

Based on some of the help on here I think I’m going to start a sustained power build plan. Is there a way of incorporating videos into the plan/s?

    Thanks…

To balance the argument – not all protesters are violent and they still get treated harshly by the establishment.

The reason I love the hills and mountains:
You rarely get a crowd, inparticular one that could flare into a mob in seconds.

Unless you’re on a night ride in Brighton.. :D

I’d say a ‘bike of choice’ is determined more by what the rider wants to ride comapred to what the terrain dictates..i.e. people ride in the Peaks on many different versions of bikes..

@teamhurtmore… I don’t believe we do have equal opportunity in society… If so, why are there disproportionately high levels of young black males in prison? (Imo that is due to instatutionlised racism). Does sexism not exist? How about less abled individuals? Do they have equal opportunities compared to abled individuals? These disadvantages are all a result of our current social order which has been determined by the most powerful in society adhering to neo-liberalism.

@teamhurtmore – read the post above el-bent’s if you need it explaining – although I don’t believe you genuinely meant the question…

@nifan – how about…born a man in a patriarchal world, born in a considerably more affluent country compared to other parts of the world, his mother owned a thriving shop and his father a lawyer (they obviously weren’t poor)..reads like a pretty good starting position compared to millions of others. Sure, he worked very hard too, but his environmental circumstances contributed to his hard work to enable success…

Hugo..in a capatalist society do you think all people in poverty are there because they have not tried hard enough?

I agree with some of the sentiments above too. There is nothing wrong with extreme wealth, its the living in a world with fellow humans struggling that’s just plain wrong. It should be distributed better, especially since wealth creation is simply down to luck and the circumstances one was born into…one of the ways our current system keeps going is everyone always point to communist countries as the ‘other way’. It doesn’t have to be like that – however, that way of thinking is kept in place by the powerful who are protecting their interests in neoliberalism…

irc – my post was a bit blunt I admit and probably not how i meant it to come across. However, nothing stupid about hegemony and the way it works. Your response appears to be a good example as any as to how it works and the beliefs it creates…

If you defend the current reality of capitalism (and neoliberalism) you’re either someone who has been hoodwinked by hegemony or your heartless..take your pick.

Personally, I think you should be a bit more considerate of the next rider. I always carry a bin bag and bag up all the mud so the next rider has a clean, dry trail….

So, these people with diff usernames..does that means this thread is actually one person ‘chatting’ with themselves? Am I intruding now on someones multiple personality game?…..

Hi. Thanks whitestone and Kryton57 for your replies. I’ll have a look at those ideas, also reminds me I can email TR direct if necc.

Hi all. Question if I may. Using TR what have people been choosing to do/follow if they’ve been training for MTB marathons and endurance events (events with a serious amount of overall elevation and not just distance)?

    Cheers for any advice…

Not a wind up (unless said person was pulling my leg). Friend I know had it and he was lucky for it to be treated successfully. He was told as well that regular masturbation was good for ‘cleaning out’ the system and was one way to help keep prostate cancer at bay…

I must be a deviant. I genuinely enjoy beasting myself with Sufferfest vidoes. From a cardio workout perspective they’re great – which then translates to better fitness on the MTB. Win, win imdo.

Do you want the data, to be able to work with TR or Swift? E.g. For £50 you can get Ant+ dongle and both Garmin speed and Cadence sensors..if your turbo is then recognised by TR you have it all…

Have you tried talking to the cat in question?

Problem is there’s too many of them – I’m scared they might gang up on me…in all serious I think there’s about six-eight if them using the garden as a litter tray..

Been some good suggestions so far that I’ll try…is a nerv gun non-violent? Sounds fun…

    Spare bike and slick tire.

Resistance is by using your gears.

If you want to hook up stats (cadence and speed) to PC then Ant+ and Garmin type Speed and Cadence sensors will be required too. This is what you’ll need to use TrainerRoad if you so wished.

Personally, I wouldn’t bother with faff of putting a bike on the turbo that you’d want to take off again to ride outside. Not a difficult job, just a faff.

GL – no data at all. Before I did today’s session I was wondering if it would now be too hard etc. Whilst it was harder, it wasn’t that much harder which I guess is down to the fact it’s based on my FTP test. I think that was my lightbulb moment – the cleverness of the personalised power outputs and how motivating they are. I guess I’m sounding like a newbie now!

I’m new here. Just had a lightbulb moment. Did FTP test (for first time ever) at weekend and have now just completed Downward Spiral with my personal power numbers (on TR). For past six months id been doing the videos based on my assumed power output.

Now I get why people love the stats. No hiding hey!!

Now then Saxonrider, tis great you loved it but how did the ‘first time on a mountain bike brother’ find it? I assume the advice you mentioned was regarding him and not you liking it? :D

Think of some points about yourself, that you definitely want to say to them e.g. your competence re their job spec etc (say 10). Irrespective of the questions asked, make sure you get those points into your answers. To help with this too, take notes in with you that have these points on and maybe some questions you may want to ask.

So – after watching the vid about how to do it (not blow up etc) I found a pace very early on into the first 8min interval that I knew I’d be able to maintain for both intervals. So I sat at 250-260.

No vomiting etc. So guess I didn’t try hard enough. Definitely could do harder and I can see how the whole pace thing is a skill to itself.

    Score – 225, 3.04kg/w.

Mr Blobby – I’m up for a laugh. Place your bets – I’m 72kg, using virtual power, Cronofluid Elastogel (think that’s in the right order), and mtb’er only. Couldn’t classify my riding really, bit of everything. You’ve got till 5pm to place your bets….

Useful responses cheers, helping me to understand it. Just seen the long running STW TrainerRoad thread pop up too and think that’ll be useful for me to read..
