I remember a route we did a couple of times – parked in Sedbergh and went onto tops of How gills, along and back down a different way – great ride and not long (like the classic loop).

Email me if you want me to dig out the exact route…

Here’s a thought…why is it people support Cameron who would rather kill people (go to war) over offering a helping hand to the destitute (immigrants fleeing worn torn counties)… Says it all really…least Corbyn has some compassion and empathy…

JC is in the wrong party IMO. Voting had shown people like some of his ideology but now he’s being bogged down by other stuff….he should go elsewhere and least he could do what he wants to with a bunch of similar minded politicians, and see what the public say…maybe he’d succeed, maybe he wouldn’t. Least he’d know he tried….Labours not the party for left wing minds anymore….

@cocker – biggest thing I learnt when I did my first MTB marathon was that I hadn’t been eating the right levels of carbs… throughout training I’d got used to my pace and routes and thought i was OK, but when went at the events pace/route I came unstuck a bit.

I looked into how much I should be eating for my level of training and I’d been way off the target of carbs I should have been eating…I use fitness pal now to track it..when I eat the right ratios of food for my training, my perfomrnace is noticeably better…and I mean eating the right food throughout the week irrespective of a riding day or not…i used Anita Beans sports nutrition book to work it all out…very good imo…

I used one for about six months as a chair at desk… Unintended negative consequence was that I moved my legs around (wider apart etc) as I was moving on the ball and believe it ended up putting unnatural stress on my upperlegs, groin, hips etc….maybe just me not being focused on the posture but when you’re on it for a whole day its easy to forget because it is wobbling unlike a normal chair… I stopped using it…

@chewk – genuinely curious – what’s your political ideology/stance? If that’s too open for a public forum you need not reply…I’m asking cos of the reference you made to positivists a while back….

Is the bike industry complaining at the moment? Cos if not, what’s the issue? It’s a great time for biking ; lots of choice, for consumers. across all price spectrums…apologies if written in OPs post the answer to my question – it was too long for me to read. :D..

If Freddie Flintoff did it do people think it’d have created the same reaction? (Picking up on Edukators comment – not sure what I think about it so just asking)

There’s no definitive answer to this – science is forever arguing over stuff like this e.g. cause and effect of lifestyle and disease…however, common sense says stop doing the stuff you know is bad for you and the body will heal itself the best it can….and one will feel emotionally positive about this which is good for you too….win win..

I wonder if that photo (OP’s one) will be added to the Peoples’ Museum down the road, where there’s a Temperance Movement exhibition.. They’d have loved it as an example for their cause..

    Shut him in the cupboard..1min
    Lock it…10secs
    Head phones on..10sec..

Got it down to a pretty quick time…used to take a while pushing him in but now he accepts his lot….

(Anyone feel a little queasy thinking I may just be telling the truth…)

Benn’s speech was appaling and he should be sacked for that alone. He conveniently missed out the most recent army inventions (Iraq etc) which are the most similar to Syria and spoke about Hitler etc which has far less similarity to the Syrian stuff…Shocking display of bullshit baffling brains….

@cumberlanddan – I guess you’re referring to my username… I lived for a few years in Appleby and was living there when I set up this account…not in that area now though (sadly)…you weren’t planning to stalk me were you? :D

Mods – I think this thread needs closing. Not because its gone on too long or that Binners has been abusive to Cumberlanddan..but that I fear Binners may have a heat attack in his clearly apoplectic state… :D

People disagreeing is not an issue. People deliberately misconstruing and misrepresenting what is said is.

I think it should be reminded that there is no ‘one version’ of reality (IMO, because I’m sure there’s some externalists out there)and that everyone interprets what’s written in these threads through their own lens, values and belief systems….

That’s why people often claim someone else has misunderstood them..

It’s also frickin hard to put into words what you’re thinking in your head…

And no doubt, what i am trying to say here will be interpreted differently by everyone else…. :D

@cumberlanddan – you are completely entitled to your opinion – i was curious because i guess its easier to debate this amongst guys..

My final point, and its regards the ‘freedom to do whatever’ argument as expressed by Chip:

Foucault states…”even when individuals think they are most free, they are in fact in the grip of more insidious forms of power, which operate not solely through direct forms of repression but often through less visible strategies of internalisation”

Apologies if that’s too much for a Friday afternoon… :D

@cumberlanddan…question for you. If a group of women told you they thought the calendars were wrong..what would your answer to them be?

    edenvalleyboy
    Free Member

Men look at women. It’s how it works. That’s why over millions of years women look the way they do. They look better than men. men like it.

You can argue about the last 100 years all you like, but you are fighting against millions of years of evolution.

for what ever reason, men have evolved to be more visual than women when it comes to sex.

There is a reason why men are physically stronger and more aggressive than women, they are disposal. Hence they are the ones who hunt and fight to support their “tribe”. Women are more important for the continuity of the species. In theory, 1 man can reproduce more than once per day, a women takes 9 months. If you lose 90% of your men, you can still come back, lose 90% of your women and you’re fecked.

Women are attracted to “powerful” men, men who can protect them and their children. Anyone going to dispute that?

@gobuchul – please tell me this was a joke post….

But how can you defend the girls that don’t necessarily want to be defended ? You realise this is their chosen career ?

    @weeksy – some would argue that’s internalised oppression…

@chip – If question of comparing abuse was to my post..that wasnt the intention…I was using that as example of two wrongs not making a right but within a different context…..

Could someone explain why it’s not sexist? People keeping making that statement but not explaining why..

But don’t use Poah’s point of male calendars.. That’s sexist two and two wrongs don’t make a right…that’s like saying if I abuse Africans and Jews then I’m not a racist…

Probably four good mates , one local and three others away (and as a family we make time to see throughout the year)…although my local mate I’ve known for years and would confide anything to..I also know he’d not know how to deal with a death in my family…I’ve leanrt that’s him though and not representative of the depth of our friendship…

Sorry for your loss OP…I remember when my dad died died, since I was younger not many people around me knew how to talk to me cos they’d never experienced the death of a parent..

I’ve a Leatherman wave (I think its that one). Great tool but the reality is I don’t carry it on many rides because it’s too big. I’d carry it on the more remote rides…nevertheless, it was a well received present and it has its purposes…

I’ve had one for a couple of years – always had a little play but never been detrimental to it workinng and it’s never got worse…maybe a daft question, but have you set up the pressure properly? Makes a difference to how it operates…

@Kryton57 – my mistake – I should have disclaimed you – I was meaning the base of the argument I.e. what was written is general rhetoric from the media…its hypocritical because all sections of society sponge from the state, factually incorrect because the argument claims many people are living the high life when they are not (numerous stats out there to disprove the benfit fraud argument), illogical e.g. we know jobs are scarce but we bash people for not working, maybe they can’t work etc…if I was to assume anything I’d guess OP’s comments all based upon how the family ‘look’ and then OP made the assumption they are scrounging…that’s the oppressive part…

Kryton57 » ]Do you think its fair that good, honest workers fund work shy, lazy bastards* that play the state taxation system aka some of my/your wages to fund their lifestyles?

This argument is illogical, factually incorrect, hypocritical, unempathetc and ultimately oppressive….

Gore phantom 2.0 – works remarkably well. I’m a cheapskate but I think Gore jkts are worth the extra money..its not too tight but it is close fitting – however I think that’s one reason why it works so well.

Cheers for all the advice. I won’t do the Superstar ‘Black Friday deal’ because need to look into it…I’d say I’m happy with my strength and fitness (obviously always working on getting fitter!), but because I often ride big mileage over 5/6 hour, in hilly terain with a lot of ascent and descent, I need to work out what might be a good starting point front chainring wise…I definitely like the appeal of it though..

@egb81 – I think this is where I’m curious. The simplicity appeals and if it so simple to convert, why not try it…
