@moose – ever wondered why it’s repeatedly trotted out?

I like the use of Andy McNab too – own goal from where I see it.

Does it make you feel uncomfortable @RM attack?

    Rene59..ever heard of ‘white privilege’?

I suggest you do some research on that and especially ‘male white privilege’ to see some of the reasons for why others might feel they have an issue with it.

I’m going to guess you are a white male too judging by your comments.

Cheers for the replies. Nathan one seems closet to what I have in my head – but it’s ‘one size fits all’ so I’m wary of it being too big for me (on the shoulders) even though it has adjustable side straps

That asssos one..jeez thats pricey and looks like something you’d find in a late night dungeon…👹

I thought the film was great (especially watching it as an ex-climber).

Someone told me that in his last book he said the last big solo his did had a big sense of anticlimax afterwards because he had no one to share it with – hence the media crew this time/way of showing off his exploits.

Some people need to get a grip. STW is supposed to be a fun place to be …it’s free to use and participation is voluntary.

If you don’t like it then just quit logging on.

I hope the Macclesfield branch stays open. Friendly staff and very useful to have local.

Someone said NZ MTB trails are good. I disagree and so does my NZ MTB friend when he visited me in here in UK. I lived in NZ too and agree with him. Edit: I’m not saying it’s bad just that UK MTB is a better scene for regular riding throughout the year.

So much of NZ is bush (wild) so apart from man-made MTB trails it’s hard to bike elsewhere easily without committing to big day/s out unlike in the UK where you can ride natural terrain easily from the roadside. He came over here and was amazed at our biking – he loved the Lakes riding etc.

Average speed in a ride a is a very inaccurate way to determine fitness. Too many variables e.g. terrain, weather, wind speeds and direction, you on that etc day to allow you to compare rides.

<span style=”font-size: 0.8rem;”> It’s all about power output or heart rate. I’m not suggesting get these. </span>

Just don’t beat yourself up by looking at average speeds when it’s not reliable data.

@p-jay. I get that. If I don’t pay (and financially support STW)  I guess I shouldn’t really complain. Like you say it’s not the only online marketplace ..(it does feel like one of the rare ones though thats honest – I feel I can trust STW users compared to more general platforms such as eBay)..

@jejyl… apologies if it appears moaning but is one not allowed to be critical or give a negative opinion on something?

    @p-jay..interesting points. I never had issues selling , I guess I’m justthinking<span style=”font-size: 0.8rem;”> of as a buyer. </span>

Does buying a ‘p’, which I’ve had historically,  get you anything else in the classifieds? Does it improve the experience?

I lived and worked in NZ for about two years. Great place. I started the process of permanent residency.

However, I came back in the end because I realised I was so far from aging family. Previously, when I’d been living in Dublin my dad died and it was easy to come back to England (although dealing with the bereavement on my own when I went back to Dublin was tough).

I guess that experience made me realise how far away NZ was when I was thinking of staying there. Don’t regret coming back at all. We live in a beautiful county and are close to a lot of good countries. There are far worse places to live in the world that UK. It’s a privilege to live here. Imagine being born in Syria.

NZ has many pluses but it also has its negatives. Like all places I guess.

Thanks for the response. @martymac, I have considered a hammock and I haven’t ruled it out yet .

    @whitestone
…going on confirmation bias 😏 you’ve written what I wanted to hear. That was where my thinking was headed .I’ve bivvy’d in the mountains without a sleeping bag (and only a bivvy bag) before and it wasn’t pleasant but for just a short nap it should be fine…

The posters who become ”shouty’ and attack others comments when writing about why they have a problem with e-bikes, are they spoof and all in jest?

People can’t really be upset about someone riding an e-bike can they? What harm is it doing anyone else?

    Something I didn’t mention/ask.

USB charging (my Garmin) using the dynamo? Not all the lights can do that can they? Or do people rig something from hub?

    Thanks

Thanks for all the replies. Some good points raised that I need to consider e.g. a light that is going to be effective at slow speeds up hills.

I’m not a bike commuter these days so the light is for regular winter road night rides, audaxes and other adventures –  which means I’m trying to get a light that’ll do me well in multiple situations.

    Hi @Bez.

Under £150. Sounds a lot (to me anyway) but I want a light that’ll serve me well for a good few years and not f*** up on me when I’m committed to a multi day adventure. 🤔

Hiya – thanks for replies so far.

Medium budget? Mmm I’d be happy if I could spend less than £130? And very happy if under £100.

By dark lanes I mean roads with no lights that have holes etc – to me, in the dark these are more dangerous than oncoming cars..I live in the Peaks and I ride in the hills at night..

After a few years of trying to fit MTB around young kids I bought a CX bike so I could eliminate all of the driving and just ride from my house. Been a revelation and I think I’m now probably a secret roadie at heart….ooooh the lycra..oh yes.

We actually ended up taking a picnic into a quiet spot since weather was so good last night – but I’m going to remember all the suggestions and try them out (gradually!!).

Until we have more counter-hegemonic dialogue/narrative in our world, the status quo  will continue to uphold inexcusable levels of inequality.

    @bigyan
..it is. I’ve followed the Shimano tech docs to get it setup properly and it’s working fine, but that is with the cable tensioner screwed back out alot – leaving me little room for re-tensioning when the new cable stretches. I want to tighten it a bit more at the start to allow me to retightem later.

All the people saying you like Harry, what is it you mean?

Have you met him or are you saying you like the way his PR team have protrayed him in the media through which you ‘know’ him?

Not sure if I’d call it singletrack …it’s basically a route around an inner city green space. Good fun yes, but not singletrack in the MTB sense. I’d say the fun comes from the challenge (how many laps you can do in two hours) and the sense of spirit from a bunch of bikers coming together.  Can’t say the terrain is particularly interesting – it’s just a park in Manchester.

Cheers@andy. Makes sense.  It will be interestimg to see how it rides under tension – might not rub like you’ve found. Ive only had it in the stand.

@mikesmith…I’m double doofus. I’d tried that but reason it appeared not to work is because the password function is aleady setup (so didn’t ask me for a password since it already had one and therefore I thought not working).

I’ll go back to bed and get up again and see if my brain is in gear….😁

So, @Kryton and Crosshair.. how easy is it to download the plans you talk about? I’ll use the 7day free trial and want to make sure I get the most out of it.

Also, thanks for the offer of a free month with TrainerRoad but I’m presently already  subscribed to TR.

Last new years I decided to give up/cut out as much as possible.

Thought it would be hard (I used to enjoy having a nice bottle or two of ale in the evening).

Only drank twice last year and both times were with work e.g. the Christmas party.

Feel so much better for not drinking (improved sleep is very noticeable).

Will carry it on for good.

I had read lots on the net saying it was common with BB30’s.

Bit more googling and it might be that I need to tighten up the left hand crank more (it’s not on that tight which was how it came from the shop).

@Gary Lager ..i agree about wanting to fix it. The creak really annoys me. What’s the adapter thing you mention (if I can’t fix it otherwise)?
