White face killer – response of stereotype of individualisation of mental health issue…
Brown face killer – response of stereotype of part of terrosit group and issue of Islam…

Fascinating how this thread has gone….the colour of the killer appears to dictate the focus of the response…no one is focusing on this white killers motives but look through previous threads of brown faced killers and it’s a very different story…

@jambayla…Australia is shockingly racist. It has forced the Aborigine’s into isolation and they are now living in squalid, inhumane conditions, and suffering from unnecessary disease only miles from tourist destinations…they turn away boats of immigrants and allow them to drown at sea because of it….imo Australia is not a country to be aspiring towards…

@jambayla – of course, having control of the numbers entering the country is important. Sadly however, I have heard far too often now that immigration control is about keeping out Muslims because the Koran states they want to take over the world and their coming here to take over, change our laws and take over the world. All words I have heard from people on the leave side. Whether you like it or not, the discourse from the likes of the Mail has incited hatred and fear towards Muslims. That is why many people call it a racist vote.

Whenever I’ve spoken to ‘leave’ voters and we’ve worked through their reasons for their vote..it’s always ended up with concerns about Muslims and immigration. That appears to be the base of it.

OP – the best decision is the one that your partner can live with in the future and not be full of regrets. Sounds simplistic but is important. Whilst not appealing now may be the one with least headache, it may however leave a life of “oh I wish I’d appealed” etc.

Wouldn’t it be more effective (if aim is to reduce head injuries) by banning cycling rather than making it compulsory to wear helmets…

I very recently got an outer ear mild infection that for some reason escalated to having infections in both middle ears..ended up taking optimise (steroidal ear drops) for a few weeks. Probably took four/five weeks to clear up. Had to keep ear dry for the whole time and put ear drops in lying down (so drips would soak in using gravity).

Infection came from swimming (I think) and i have just returned to swimming. However, whilst the ear with the initial infection feels completely fixed, when it gets water in it now, it seems to hold water for a day or too which it never did before…ears are sensitive things.

Good replies. Hadn’t thought of the Belingo (although I will have to reassess my idea of not being bothered about looks because the Belingo is definitely not stylish).

@garage-dweller – you may be right about Octavia – but I’d planned on adding a tow bar (for using with a small trailer) since our kit comes to alot on our summer camps. However, the vehicle probably won’t he used for much commuting so an MPV type thing can be considered.

@ghostlymachine – I see you write what we’d thought too.

Been some good inspiration here. Cheers.

We have the Montana – highly recommend it. Essentially it’s so good we’re not worried about poor weather – it’s big and solid. We do also have a weekend tent for the 1 or 2 night trips away, because I can’t be bothered to put it up and down in a weekend.

You don’t need to bilateral breath but it does mean you can then swim safely in open water. Personally I’d make the effort to learn a swimming technique that is the most transferrable to all water environments.

There’s lots of swim coaching videos on the internet…once you’ve mastered it (and I think you should master breathing on both sides and not just one side), and all it takes is practice, you’ll find it easy. Once you have the technique you won’t find it particularly tiring….well worth learning…a mile of front crawl is excellent exercise and body toning…

Interesting. They risk their lives for an education…whilst in this country the normality of ‘free’ education had resulted in some parents choosing to miss school to go on cheaper holidays….

Bontranger…. There’s an XR4, XR3, XR2 and an XR1…XR4 is the fatest and grippiest and it goes down to XR1 which is your skinny XC racer one i.e..death slides everywhere…For the past year I ran XR4 upfront and XR3 out back…great (grippy and confidence inspiring) combo but not particularly fast rolling..

I’ve recently switched to an XR3 on the front and an XR2 on the rear…impressed so far and a noticeably quicker combo than I had before …and I predominantly ride in the Peaks (since context is everything).

Alex sounds good – not like a big boss of a TV station who (a few years ago) had a collision with a cyclist…appeared to be a good person by scooping him up, bike into back of his car and said to all the bystanders he’d take him to A&E…then he drove ’round the corner ‘ and then turfed him out and said ‘don’t ever hit my car again!’….

Yep – any litter is bad. But remember, dropping your gel wrappers is the same as throwing an empty MacDonald’s bag out of your car window…I just hope we don’t judge others for things we do ourselves…cycling has a very bad reputation for littering…

I’ve realised that injuries are taking longer to heal (I’m 43) so I’ve changed my goal from trying to be fasted downhill to now trying to be fasted A-B. That means I can have an excuse to be slower down the hills and avoid injuries, but still have a little kudos from being faster up the hills and going the longest distance…

@jamba …it was listening to Angelina’s speech on the radio at lunchtime today that prompted this post. Her words, whilst eloquent, completely skirted around the causes/details that posts on here have made. Made me question what do people really think about the situation since media talk often depoliticises the causes of the ‘problem’. And it is a ‘problem’ since people are drowning alot and living in squalid camps on borders…or maybe life has always been like that and always will be?

I mean better as in reducing theq numbers of people being displaced and living unsettled lives. I’m not wishing to discuss how we (UK) deal with numbers trying to enter. I’m wondering about the cause and effect of the start of the migration of people.

I have a 1994 Specialised Hardock that’s very nearly rideable – hopefully I’ll finish it since I’ve had it from new and it has good memories. Thing is, if I have the time to fettle it, I’ll then choose to ride abother bike instead.

I traveled through Columbia when travelling around South America. Didn’t come across any trouble and enjoyed it (very friendly place). So as a traveller, it definitely never lived up to its poor reputation and I didn’t hear of others having trouble. This was about tweleve years ago…

+1 re mboys comments about faster rolling tyres.

Last week I changed my tyre combo to a faster rolling combo…rode my local loop and beat all my Strava (dowhill) PB’s without even trying. I was really surprised it’d make that much of a difference. Edit. I’m never trying to go super fast downhill so my PB’s have never been worked for , if that makes sense.

    Can I afford this holiday?

    No

Better find one I can afford then. Like buying a tent.

As dilemmas go, it’s not **** rocket science.

I understand that for some kids, missing some time off school isn’t a problem, but the sense of entitlement some people seem to have about a holiday does grate sometimes

You clearly missed the point @morecashthandash.

You seem to be saying that even if a family could scrape together the money to take their children to France (for example) to help with their language studies, understanding of other cultures, quality family bonding time, one-off experiences etc etc in non-term prices..it is however just tough luck if they cannot afford it in the rip-off prices of holiday time and should ‘go and buy a tent’. You can’t see a dilema here for a parent who may value informal education, life experiences and family time etc along with formal education and their child is performing perfectly at school so wouldn’t be missing out? That is a dilema for some.

And for the record – I am not in favour of removing children for holidays at all. It’s just I can see the dilema that you (I have to assume) can’t.

A major problem is that the people making the laws have the capability to pay the extroniate premium holiday price in the school holidays…so those making the laws have little understanding of the dilemma poorer families have….

I was surprised by the courts definition of good attendance – 90%. I think missing 1 day in every two weeks is poor attendance.

Be interesting to see how that goes down when I see them at the Ethiad. They’re THE band from my yoof so I’ll love ’em unconditionally, but they shouldn’t have put that out. It wasn’t necessary.

I think it’s great they’ve been made and I’m sure they’re fun – just like a fatbike is or a motorbike.

Don’t understand the grievance about people going up hills faster though… Who cares? PersonLly I ride my bike for me and the only competition is against myself and how I’m getting better. I don’t give two hoots about anyone else…
