This thread is full of ‘confirmation bias’ posts on both sides..in fact I reckon the Brexit topic does that throughout society.

Oh the irony…the UK chose to leave the club because it was fed up with the club telling the UK how to behave…and now the UK is annoying the club because in its final days in the club the UK is trying to tell the club how to behave…

I’ll give that a go…the Sasha and Digweed night I went to in Brighton in 1991 (based on their Northern Exposure success) was one of the best club nights I went to around that time. Oh the memories (or lack of should i say)… :D

@kimbers…I often wonder if @jambayla is actually a robot poster or spoof persona (being serious here). Since @jambaylas’s posts dont seem to follow the normal principles of dialogue, reasoning, logic, evidence based opinion or empathy.

Problem is a xenophobic attitude is easier to use in swaying voters than it is in actually defining policy…so whilst the xenophobic vote won, now they’re stuck trying to make polices out of it that would actually be positive for the country in terms of economics etc…

Cheers @kilo..I’m wondering if six miles is a doable distance…thinking of cycling between two offices and it’s about that distance (and relatively flat).

No surprise teachers are leaving the profession and the volume of individuals entering the profession is low (compared to the need of the country) judging by some of the sentiments in this thread.. teachers are educating our young people and without them our society is ****.. so they should be given way more respect than they currently get…

I read this recently. It’s OK and whilst I’m unsure how factually correct it is, it does give an idea of where Putin came from and a few other famous names e.g. that Chelsea manager. Worth reading….

Money money money it’s all about the money…tis all those at the top table of government care about…also, it’s easy to make these decisions when it’s another part of the country, as if they’d agree to it if it was in their back yard…

@jamba… Theresa May is not inclusive in the notion of the whole of society. Listen to her words…all she ever talks about is people who are working. She never mentions those who aren’t e.g. less-abled people. At best she is only inclsusive regards the working population and even then she’s on very shaky ground.

What a lovely person we have as leader of our country… disgraceful attitude to take towards those less fortunate for no fault of their owm.

I’m a ghost in a château in France.

Years ago my dad dressed me up in my mum’s nightie and did some trick photography of me, whilst I was stood at the top of a spooky turret in a château we were staying in. Sent them the pic (me a translucent 8 year old in white in the tower) and they put the pic in their museum as the resident ghost)…

It amazes me how lazy journalism is re Brexit…e.g. ‘see it’s not been so bad..Brexit has proved to be ok’…FFS..it hasn’t happened yet. All we’ve had is a vote on it. All terms and conditions are the same at present and we’re still in the EU..

@nifan…do you know the definition of ideology? I never associated it negatively..you did, which must mean you feel uncomfortable with shrinking the Welfare State. It’s their policy and you’d be an egit to try to hide that fact..
    they never do.

@thm…madness. You state there hasn’t been a tangible economic difference for ages yet constantly the definition of political difference (in discussions on STW) re the two big parties is their economic policies.

@peyote…I agree with @Kimbers…whilst Tory and Labour appear similar now (accept the deficit for what it is – which is pretty shitty since Tories convinced the voter it was an issue and they should be voted for so they could reduce it) – Tories have an ideology of shrinking the Welfare State. So money saved on that goes elsewhere and they ignore defcit total…

@tgm…so what’s the difference in strategy to Labour? Seem very similar to me, which is contradictory to the rhetoric at election time…

Cheers for the replies. Would it be right that any kind of waterproof/resistant shorts have a limited life span so they are only used occasionally?

Why can’t people be allowed to have fun? If someone wants an e-bike so what? All this ‘ruining the trails’ stuff is twaddle.

‘Real’ cyclists damage the environment too. How about the litter that gets dropped by mistake or at events? Shall we ban events then?

How about the fact you fall off and hurt yourself and then my taxes pay for you to get mended in the NHS? Shall we stop you on your ‘real’ bike?

Or the opposite..what cost is reduced by enabling a les abled person get outside and have some positive and emotional experiences..might even relieve depression and save money on drugs..

oooh makes me agitated all this getting aggro at e-bikes…

Is this classified as a rant? Please rate me if so… :D

What’s weird is many Brits move abroad (in fact the same amount of people leave as they do enter this country)…also there was never a problem with Aussies and Kiwis here…although we did have an issue with black immigrants after the second world war..it’s as if it’s more to do with skin colour and religion..but then that would infer racism..but of course no one is racist in this country… so must just be a coincidence….

I would appear contrary to popular opinion. Owned one for three years and I too thought it was indispensable. It broke and whilst waiting to get a new one I found out that (with my bike setup properly) I actually didnt need it anywhere near as much as I thought I did. So, I’ve not replaced it yet.

Also, before dropper posts were mainstream there were many many mtb’ers riding far harder, gnarlier, quicker, smoother than we are now with our dropper posts..so let’s not kid ourselves it’s a must. It’s simply another tool for added enjoyment…

Forgive me for i have sinned. Help me back to the path to the right. I too want to be a part of the party that will make me rich at the expense of the poorer in society. I don’t mind the increase in suicides, the closing of bus services in rural areas that affect health and wellbeing of older people, the closing of libraries and other spaces for education…because I will be richer than you and I am truly worth it….please help me not care aout other members of society. .

Very good interview with Ken Loach on R4. Re Labour he said recent Labour MP’s had completely forgotten what Labour is supposed to be about (supporting the oppressed working class)….

Imo…the tide is turning…people have had enough of being dicked over by the most powerful… JC is not the answer, but finally someone in government has a voice that challenges the neo liberal order…

    Todays a good day…

Are you guys going to all explode when he gets elected again? This thread may self-destruct :D

(Not particularly a JC fan but it’s very amusing watching people get all up-tight about someone they think is rubbish…reading between the lines it seems to me a bit like in the playground and being mean to the girl you fancy…I genuinely think the right wing anti-Corbynites on here fear him for potentially rocking their world.)

@thm…without wishing to to reject Mrs THM help…I would argue that by ‘helping ‘out’ on food banks one is complicit in their need. Helping out is to accept their usage and is doing nothing towards trying to get rid of their need. Further, all these helpers are creating a situation whereby the government don’t feel there is an issue. It’s normalising the situation. I would prefer Mrs THM et al spent their time challenging the government to ensure decisons are made that enable society to not have to use them.

Yes of course we elected our governance so we are responsible too. I mean it has nothing to do with campaign lying, the nature of power in society or hegemony that allows these things to happen.

As someone once said ….only an understanding of hegemony can make you realise how we (UK) can increade it’s wealth whilst poverty does not decline relatively, food bank usage rises, health and well-being declines etc.

For example…isn’t it strange people calmy walk past food banks in the supermarket. Shouldn’t we as society be standing up and saying WTF is going on to allow this…not only the fact such a rich society needs them but also how have we reached a situation whereby we calmy accept them being used instead of getting out and challenging our government over the need to use them. Shocking state of affairs.

Well @jivehoney… Theresa May probably doesn’t care for those images…in her last role she was responsible for the bus that drove around London with a huge sign telling immigrants to go home…clearly not a very nice lady.

@justinfiveminutes…I could show you as many stats and graphs demonstrating a different view of poverty in the UK.

Nevertheless..if you’re happy with the present situation that’s your choice. Personally, I think its shameful.

@jambayla…your list concurs with his opposition.

Your list is all about Cameron himself or money. Nothing in your list is regarding happy citizens, equality for all, a healthy society physically and emotionally, poverty reduction etc.. ..all the the things I would argue were signs of a successful leader.

Cameron failed big time regards the health and well-being of the nation, poverty reduction and equality, to name but a few.
