drilled a last year 26″ orange five (2012?) this spring. took the shock out to lift the swingarm up and drilled as high as I could in the seat tube above the bottom bracket coming out the side but slightly forward if that makes sense. its done a summer of enduros, lakes and alps and its not cracked. I was surprised to see the seat tube is about a mile thick. used the method of a guy who did a commencal on here.

Stat on pm show last night was that private sector wages dropped in 2007, public sector down on 2010. Both are down about 10% on their peaks so both sectors in similar boat. Apparently.

    Edit: in real terms

He’s a star and he doesn’t know it. His books brilliant. He has achieved so many things in his life both because and despite his mental health. I’ve had the pleasure of an evening in his company. All the respect in the world for him..

Sssimon x1million. Sounds like tight itb or other lack of flexibility in your leg muscles/lower back from being a cyclist first and a runner second. Stretching, rolling, icing if it helps but don’t rest, be sensible but don’t stop doing things. If it doesn’t hurt whilst standing, sitting, cycling i’d venture there’s not something in your knee I that’s broken it’s pain felt by nerves there caused by something somewhere else.

Yeah ‘the sport’ hasn’t one view. The view of doping historically in Britain, America post lance and possibly France post festina is a bit of an outlier. The anglophone members of uci seem to be shit scared of doing enough to please IOC and anglophone sponsors but not so much they catch too many people. the rest of the cycling world couldn’t give a shit I don’t think. Provided it’s good racing Crack on.

That was a bit of a troll from Froome I thought. His colleagues in the classics squad might regret that come April.

The clenbuterol was a bit of a red herring, it was the plasticisers that did for him. He did dope, he was caught but was believably worse after his ban so I’ll give him the benefit of the doubt the back end of his career. Valverde can still piss right off though.

Tbf he was dying on his arse at the end there. He went far too hard from the bottom and the gc group could have caught him if they’d paced it differently. It wasn’t a complete gift but there looked to be an agreement.

Conversely I’ve been disappointed with Froome this year. He was epic in last years tdf, attacking downhill, into crosswinds with Sagan… this year has been back to a duller model.

they vary the course over the years, some years its a climbers, some sprinters, some classics guys. although as its always a new course no one has raced before you are never sure quite how it will play out until the day.

Eurosport are covering it aswell. Matt Stephens and the one who isn’t Carlton Kirby. They are much better.

I don’t think the quality of light in sept shows it Best. Certainly these first 2 days. That said much of Britain is nice enough but not wow amazing. It still looks a lot better than the spring classics.

Clement mxp on flows to 60psi-ish. It was a very dry year.

Advice from what I can remember: On any double track off ingleborough stay right. There are lots of false summits on whernside. Be prepared for continuous punishment passes between whernside and penyghent from people who ironically are all there to support cyclists. (Gently)Practice penygent the night before and be amazed how narrow it is on race day. Don’t be a woman as the prizes aren’t equal.

In a perverse way I quite like watching the content generation arms race it’s turned into in the last few years as the 4 or 5 MTB magazines/websites compete to get the first image of the shiny thing up. We’ve gone from half arsed 5 day old posts of a load of random stuff to live Facebook videos in the space of five years.

It’s a Mecca for Spanish road cycling. It’s home to Lagos de covadonga which is like the Spanish alp d’huez and where Miguel induurain sacked it off and retired half way through the stage.

That said there are some great mountain walks and they don’t have the same access rules as us so it looks like great mountain biking but hard work. 1500-2000m climbs/descents like a dry version of the Lake District but all hike a bike no lifts.

They’ve been struggling for a while but were very bullish they had signed a great new deal with someone at this years tour. To be announced shortly. I guess they haven’t in fact signed a great new deal so they have no money next year. It’s the nature of pro tour teams. It’s a bit of a rubbish model. I feel conflicted. I like a lot of their riders but not Jonathan vaughters.

QS failed terribly to assist him, I know their ethos is lowland hard riding Belgians, but they really left Dan all alone.
I think this is an empty stereotype. They build a team for one day races then have GT teams for sprints, occasional breakaways and solo GT riders. Jungels is a rouleur but has nailed the Giro white despite having little support. He will never podium at the TdF for them though.

don’t know, i think this is pretty nail on the head. giro and now just at the vuelta quickstep smashed it the minute there were crosswinds. one crosswind day at the tour and they are all sat at the back with kittel and martin looses time again. not surprised he’s off.

Even a couple of years ago they had thin batting but some genuinely quick fasts, they were flakey but promiseing. Now there’s nothing.

    absolutely not

    and they aren’t available anymore.

I bought some from wiggle a month or so back. Did the white roafs classic sportive with them. It has off road sections along the ridgeway. It was dry, they were fine no punctures either. For what the op suggests they would be ok. Lovely road tyre too.

so they are! where have they got those from? not in green wall though which is a shame

limus is a better mud tread and has tan walls which looks more cross but the PDX gets you 95% of the way in the mud and is far better for the rest of the conditions. As clinchers price is about the same. As a tub limus are a fair bit cheaper option but are worse quality.

It might be depending on the course. Some are more mountainbikey than others.

Give it a stab. But you will also discover that you are really not fit.

I’ve built a rear, it was ok. I wouldn’t ever dare try building a front. it just feels like the failure mode is more risky to teeth if the front goes.

It’s a race but not a high level one. It’s more a festival/ exhibition/fun race vibe. Genuinely good riders have been there previous years like joe Barnes and Tracy Mosley but there are no policed rider gaps. No timed transitions. The course isn’t fully taped and there is a massive spread of abilities. You are broadly going to end up where you should do on the leaderboard but you need to go into accepting that your time is highly variable due to traffic.
