Yes nobby nick arrows look the wrong way round but aren’t. They are meant to run that way even though it looks wrong especially compared to an eskar which is similar sipes (sp?) in the knobs but runs the other way. That said the wheel will still go round either way

When I first heard the saville news I did wonder what the guys at planet x/ on one think if their recently acquired collection of his old bikes now. Can’t imagine they’ve appreciated since then…

To a degree. But thinking about it it tends to come from the American mountain bike brands. Road bikes the obsession is vertical compliance, tapered headtubes, aero and light, and now internal cable routing and electric gears. The hornets nest of disc brakes could change it all though…

Boring sensible suggestion if you’re worried – ring housing dept at local council, explain the ( relevant) details and get advice on housing options. That way you won’t get caught out.

Good stuff. He has ridden it at least twice before though you know ;-).

It came past my house the year he got 4th in the tour when it was a big victory parade for him. I thought we’d never see the like again…

No where near my house this year though :(

+1 graham weigh frames. I scratched something together for for around that price based on one of their frames. Raced for last 2 winters and I’m still alive.

Proper cross bikes are shorter steeper and with higher bottom brackets. Mines a hoot with road tires on for a quick (on road with slicks) commute. Proper longer rides are annoying though. To complicate matters though I think the tricross doesnt actually have cross geometry, it’s slacker than road.

I’ve only seen them in shops but they don’t look like that. :-/

That looks dreadful. Probably fine structurally, but look dreadful.

I dont think many bars go up to a true 46. Word of warning on FSA – they measure width at the drops, width at the hoods is 2cm under.

Salsa cowbell is a nice wide shallow drop bar but not cheap. i think the bikemonger does them.

    wow, yeah, what cynic-al said…

they were so cool in about 1995. its a parallelogram that bolts onto the dropouts, seatstays and brake bosses to give probably less effective travel than a modern 2.35 tyre.

    bikes then really were carp.

Lego combined with Back to… That’s quite possibly one of the greatest things ever.

‘roads? Where we’re going we don’t need roads!’

Ah that’s what they were. As I say, not complaining for what I want them for the high fit is an asset, I’ll have a play with the others anyway

Got my black white ones today. They smell wiffy in a strong crisp flavour way. Frame was a smudge out but a quick twist sorted that out. Nose pieces look a bit rough but fine for the price, hope real oakleys are better anyway. Just a comment on the jawbone design, they sit quite high on my face which is good for riding in the drops on the road which is what I wanted them for, but seems to leave a big gap at the bottom for crud to get in on a mountainbike

no pastey came out with some nice uk hardcore steel hardtails that looked a bit like souls with a space hopper badge. about the time on one started(?)

I think they were well regarded and sold ok but the owners couldn’t/didn’t want to kick on and reinvest to the next level if i recall right so the brand was wound up.

edit: too slow. didn’t recall the bad press.

having done a few are sportives not akin to trail centres?

you can roll up in an area you dont know but want to ride, blindly follow signs for someone elses planned route, know there’ll be some where to stop for the loo and hopefully be fed your lunch. i like to go as fast as i can as that’s the point of road riding for me but it can’t be a race as its not mass start.

interested in the french example and i think the grand fondos in the states are mass starts so i guess you could ‘race’ those but uk sportives are just inclusive, fun mass participation cycling events for different standards, which is a good thing. so back to the OP you’ll be fine.

Had the catlike whisper road one for about 5-6 years. cos euskatel euskadi had them in that years TDF which made it obscure and cool. It was very hard to get hold of at the time, bought it mail order from prendas based on looks but fortunately it turned out to be light, very well ventilated and low profile. replacement pads can be had. use it for road, cross and some summer off road rides.

But its a triple on a road bike, the sky will fall!

The gt only looks to have tiagra shifters above the kona.. They are much better but not by that proce margin above the kona so not worth it. Also 39×25 looks a bit steep if you live anywhere hilly. And it’s not the right colour;)

    eddie11

Reasons not – it’s a tripple, it’s got sora shifters, bars aren’t compact . Reasons for – colour (for you), tyres and wheels alright for the money

Done a few long sets around Newcastle including the ones warton mentions (i’d forgotten) but not dog leap, last time i (walked) down them a year or so ago the top few steps were rocking loose.

Theres a a few around heaton park and a long set off city stadium into ouseburn. They were good as a countryside starved mountainbiker living in a city.

120mm not long on a road bike. but dont forgert reach on the bars to the hoods unless you’re carrying the same ones over. It can vary by 30mm easily depending on bar.
