There’s no real measure of cleanliness of 99% of our rivers for swimming as we have virtually zero freshwater bathing waters. it is properly measured here: https://environment.data.gov.uk/bwq/profiles/

But as a rule if you pick a dry spell, head north east and upstream you’ll live.

    The science is climate change.

The Waste hierarchy: reduce, reuse, recycle, recover, residual management.

There’s 3 more desirable options you should be focusing on long before you get to burning.

Flanders is dead easy to do. Belgium is tiny. Loads of towns to stay in around. Ghent is a short drive to oudenarde for the sat sportive. Sunday race if you have a designated driver kwaremont is awesome. Dump vehicle on a road. Loads of beer tents, TVs and men’s and women’s races go past 5 times in total. If everyone wants to drink train can be pre booked online and is cheap to oudenarde. Watch women’s race and men’s passage through town square drinking beer. Walk over to kopenberg, it’s got a small beer and frites and a big tv. Watch men go past. See finish on tv, walk back to oudenarde and see all team buses and have more beer.

Paris Roubaix is purer as it’s the proper route for the last 80k or so but watching it is weirdly under commercialized and Dirt cheap food and beer in the velodrome which is free to get in (!). The whole of Flanders goes nuts but you get the impression the rest of roubaix aren’t really bothered. And northern France is a dump. Stay in Flanders and drive across

It’s a nice little sound bite that sheds light on the absurd unrepresentativeness of our current cabinet. And triggered the triggerers. 8/10

Eh? They were being idiots. You did 100% right thing. It’s same rules as alpine skiing. Get back up the hill and protect the crash with crossed ski’s. Foreign alpine-y types should know that. Hope your kids feeling better.

Jonwe. its better than doing nothing but probably only marginally. However none of the better options are available I would speculate. so should they carry on doing it for the moment until the folks working quietly in the background can get the water level down? Yes. It will have been cleared straight from no. 10.

Makes sence. This is how we evolved sweat glands from hair follicles and why we don’t have fur….our ability to sweat and regulate our body temperature enabled humans to be able to run down Gazelles by running them to the point of collapse due to heat exhaustion.

Nah. That’s no longer thought to be true. Google aquatic ape theory. We don’t have hair cos we spent most of our time on the beach.

Vos I’ll give you. Trying not to be churlish about someone who held 3 world titles but MVP edges prevot for me.

I guess I like the way he’s ripping up recieved wisdom in the men’s cycling. For years good mountain bikers, cross riders have only really proved themselves once they’ve won on the road. MVP seems to be focused on CX and MTB and winning road for fun in his off season. If anything it’s showing how good the likes of schurter, toon aerts, van aert really are.

Some boy. Has won Cyclocross everything, 4 classics wins inc. amstel. Couple of Short tracks and a XC World Cup proper all in one season. I don’t think we’ve seen anything like it. ever.

I think I’m more cross/sad that this was all done above board with permission and that ‘the system’ failed. It’s a remote spot without the national profile or density of use of e.g. Lake District but there are known trail user groups but it looks like they weren’t reached, it is an AONB, the historic and leisure importance of these trails is known, a specific document has been agreed by the council to stop this, the bodies that protect this environment did object but it made no difference.

The problem will be Belgium races aren’t a-b they a complicated loops, laps, repeated bits, famous climbs ascended a number of times. Add in women racing shorter distances so they smash it from the off. They were probably worse conflicts up ahead. I’d hope this was a technical call to help both races further on but it’s happened the other way round in other races and the solution was still to neutralise the women’s race.

Belgium deserves credit for trying to do women’s races properly. They are miles
Closer to getting it right compared to aso who are a disgrace but still not there yet.
