Tea ladies? smut? You are a time traveller from the 1970s and I claim my 10 pounds. Edit: soooooo slow

Having said that there are probably riffs on the themes of old bags and how do you take it?

Cracks at edges of the window? Hmm. What’s the pointing on the brickwork like outside? If there’s cracks there its wall that’s moving and not the plasterers fault.

They all seem to have good and bad days although our local parcel farce and Royal Mail seem to be pretty good (jinx)

HOWEVER without fail city link have ballsed up everything single thing they have ever tried to send me over 10 years and 3 different areas so its not just a rogue depot. At best its been a week long faff, Several have been stressful nightmares lasting weeks. If I get an inkling shops use city link now I go elsewhere.

    Racing? Tubular.

    Normal rides? Tubes

Can only speak for mountain bikes on tubeless and I’ve had some very very good experiences and very bad. Nothing inbetween so still not sure where I stand on it.

No it’s a farce. Its odd from a money making point of view as well as trek just seem to have shot their load all one go. They could have got 3 or 4 model years out of drip feeding each new standard.

Just seems a dead end – How on earth thru axles can be used by the pros baffles me. They are going to need F1 air guns or something to change wheels

My first Dyfi, and it was great! I used my rigid Salsa El Mar

Was that a white one with the blue red yellow panels that I saw go past? I do like those. Reminds me of 1970s racing cars

2nd dyfi. Less punctures this year, hurrah. But more crashes, boo. Looooong drive home though. Bit knack erred this morning. Thanks to all who organised it! :-)

what was going on in your head?

the nearset i can see to a ‘scheme’ on that bike is rainbow anodising to match the world champs stripes on the forks? Which might be a goer on a white frame.

Dont do yourself down you’re nearly there. All you need to do is coin a label for each of those differences and you’re there.

It doesnt need to mean anything, you dont need to weigh anything or investigate anything with graphs (unless its a german magazine) its just a label that fills column inches. It either needs to be written as a trueism so you flatter the reader into thinking they are in on some inside knowledge: ‘that steel is real feeling’, or put it down to the alternative axle standard or rear gear cable orientation. Here the important thing is that the newsest solution is the best to keep the advertisers happy.

When we moved over to the tandem our tester could imeadiately feel that longer-than-a-normal-bike-with-two-people-on-it feel that any good tandem has. Upfront our testers could imeadiately feel the 2.5 in the new 12.5 axle standard and agreed that it was part of what made the bike.

    Not I.
I’ve sprayed a bike flouro and hand painted fish on it, and small phrases added with a Sharpie.

This thread is useless without pictures

Just tweaking front disk ince before a ride, not thinking, Undid the wrong bolts on an avid calliper it came apart, no ride and really fact mucky clean up. Oh, and Once when young smashed an old 27″ wheel to bits in a tantrum after trying for hours to fit a 700c tyre.

thye have a point. the roads on the first stage are very very narrow for a bike race the size of the tour. they are much steeper and twistier too. i wouldn’t be surprised if a few favourites have crashed out before london :?

Anyone (Sam) got any pics of what the fork will look like with anything mounts or what the spec for them is? Is it a normal fork with 3 holes in each leg or is there more to it?

Yes 1-5 is a worsetness rating, without googling it I can’t remember which end the scale starts at but the arenbergs one of the worst .

They have loads more spare wheels (plus food and bottles) than usual cos they are likely to need them. The race actually wanders all over not in a straight line so it’s a handful of guys on motorbikes or cars and as soon as the main guys go past they will leg it via a short cut to the next point further up the road.

Support cars with the directeurs still follow for most bits as well although for some bits it might be off road bikes only.

Basically it’s a silly surface to run a road bike race over but a bit like tennis on grass at Wimbledon it’s part of the appeal.

Rigid riding can be easier on steep stuff as you don’t get fork dive. It’s about relearning technique old Skool riding techniques. Ankles and wrist down, weight back, keep front wheel light, replace rear wheel every 6 months :-)

Didn’t the 30.9 Ragley blue pigs come with a little shim for seat clamp to solve what I guess must have been that issue?

Having to Add material and weight just to reach a standard clamp size sounds a bit rubbish. :?

Well, I think the larger seat tube does make quite a noticeable difference to the ride. To a degree that’s independent of tyre size, as you are comparing like for like. Otherwise you would say that all frames ride the same. Already this frame feels quite different from a Krampus. But if that many people are fixated on large dia dropper posts I will see what I can do.

Fair enough. For me I wouldn’t say fixated on a dropper it just seemed to make sense to do a slightly bigger tube if there s no downside given most dropper manufactures don’t seem to be convinced on supporting 27.2 but you are saying there is a trade off in terms of ride quality. I presume ‘different’ = worse

Got to be 30.9 min seatpost
Why? The larger diameter ST makes a huge difference to the stiffness and ride quality of the frame.

    And what rik said.

Genuine question, will a larger seat tube/post change it that much? I would have thought running full 3 inch tyres would mask a great deal of frame subtleties anyway.

Maxxis sidewalls will even match the yellow paint :)

More importantly I presume final models will have a headbadge?
And why not a reverb sized seat tube, tyre clearance?

Good luck. I’ve worked in good places where these fun and games wouldn’t last two minutes and had good managers would see right through her and rotten places where seniors fall for this stuff, and as she’s moved first you’re stuffed. Hope for you it’s the former.

I saw these on thursday and waited for the price drop on friday, only to find they had increased the price. The bags are still in the price drop sale which does’nt end until Sunday. As nickdavies said – bugger!

Glad it’s not just me who was slightly confused by that definition of price drop.

Did stage one a few weeks ago and in the dales it was like being the queen. New paint and Tarmac everywhere. The climb up buttertubs is particularly smooth except the cats eyes which where like speed bumps 8O

Run in to Harrogate still a mess. Some really random drains and manholes even by standards of uk roads. I cringed thinking about a full tdf peleton piling over those.

Drive up the hill turn left and go to Ambleside :)

Sorry, Bowness and Windermere are naff lakes at its naffest (and most expensive). to be honest you’ll struggle to find a bad place if you stay away from the lake but its just there’s no mud, walking boots or bikes. It’s all speed boats or coach tours .

Apparently you can reduce but not stop hope gouging by tightening up cassette ring bastid tight. Anyone else heard this?
