Shimano road mechs have 2 positions for the spring. Stock is a weaker setting. You can make it stronger to give a clutch like effect. I’ve not tried it yet but it’s on my to do list

Damn, I’ve ridden up there a few times and never even thought about access rights. It’s mostly double track and clearly well used. Are they worried about cyclists damaging their gravel or something?

wow ive just checked on the OS and its not a bridleway is it?, i always thought it was. I have ridden that a bit over the years, even followed game keepers clearing it on a digger during the easter snow (2013? 2014?) and they never said anything. change of owner?

another question sudenly raises its head , wheere are all those affected going to find the trades to re furbish their homes,plasterers, joiners and sparkies along with gas fitters etc, and if they do where are we going to live while work is being done.

that’s the problem, it’ll take months because there are will only be so many trades available. a lot the work will be complex too like that scottish castle on the other thread. where do you stay? caravan, family, b&b rental depending on your insurance/depth of your pockets. its meant to take about 6 months average i think to get back in to a house but I’ve seen a lot of businesses here swill the place out and carry on trading in partly knackered buildings. that or go bust i guess.

the big stuff will get cleared by the authorities sharpish as it will block bridges etc and risk more flooding. smaller stuff might get cleared one day.

On this occasion it wont be so much of an issue of dimwits littering. Much of this stuff will have been in people’s houses, shops, businesses, drains, bins, farms and been ripped out and dragged downstream in the flood. if you do volunteer to clean it up wash your hands after.

Once I got my head around that there wasn’t really story I just enjoyed it as a series of sketches. The Victoriana bits started faintly naff but not so bad that you couldn’t give them the benefit of the doubt until it became like black adders Christmas carol and just got camper and camper that you started to feel this part of the joke. That does still make it massively smug and self referential though.
