Were they in a chaingang? I sustain some crazy high cadences in a group but it seems to fit the ebb and flow. On my own I just cannot keep them up and it also seems to serve no purpose.

Aside from the Armstrong-tarnished fast cadence good or bad debate, they could have been working on leg speed. Another day you might see them mashing I big gear (or more probably they hide all their gear mashing on the turbo). Leg speed plus leg strength equals faster innit?

Women’s race was good but mens got stretched early so there weren’t many left in it. Racers make the race.

I thought the Course was great, started to cut up today after the rain. The televising of it was great, the kit they put in to cover that course with drones, fixed points and moving cameras on tracks was a credit to the sport. Commentators were crap but that was bbc’s fault the pictures we got were pretty good. But I think this thread sums up why we don’t do xc. All that and a mountain bike forum goes ‘meh’.

You notice the bulk more on the road than the trail but the biggest issue on the road is the weird counter steer you get on the camber.

You can get one of the Looks that most of the other countries use for only £6,999, you do get free seat, crank and bars for that though. And it’s only an extra £833.33 to paint it in the national colours of choice. Bargain.

I stoped playing 10yrs ago or so. I was (relatively) young and stupid so I used to run 1 and cover the free hits from 5 yards. I now realise this was nuts and red bull rampage is probably safer. Change I’ve been suprised by is its now played in quarters. When did that happen?

Stannard at Roubaix would’ve been nice.

Some Belgian singlespeed team had 2 massive flat front cargo bikes a few years ago. They were cool.

Punishment passes from a cavalcade of support team drivers between Whernside and ingleborough less so. Especially when all these people are clearly cycle fans but have taken their brain out for a day and driven like white van nuggets ‘cos uncle Jim just has to get a gel hand up at penyghent otherwise he might not get under 5h30.

    Grrrr.

Unless you’re rob jebb take a camelback a few tubes. It’s only 30 miles. Camelback makes the carry more comfortable anyway.

She used to cover rugby league. That was a nadir. It was like one of the partridge’s absurd made up programmes. Mark chapman is much better.

Zondas do have cup and cone bearings but the races are replaceable so it overcomes one of the big problems of cup and cone.

on sat i saw a few slower people but no-one completely out of their depth just choosing their own speed to ride at. But on sunday some of the faces at the start looked a bit tense, there were a few lambs to the slaughter who had been lured into the trap of the ‘sportive’ name. sunday really drew the short straw for the weather too.

The course got a bit harder in places this year but as others have said its not harder than most lakes descents, easier than a black i think as theres nothing you can’t roll.

the bridleways off fremmington edge down to storthwaite hall and gunnerside gill. that’s it really. Its a long old ride of estate roads and gentle trails to piece them together though. Nice ride but more of a rigid-29er-route than any recreation of the ard rock. 2015’s stage two runs parallel to the fremmington edge down to storthwaite hall legal bridleway just north and isn’t fenced and you could accidently find yourself on it by accident looking for the legal trail accidently. I have wondered if the hike a bike climb from stage 4 might make a good descent, looks to be footpath on the map.

very little. even outside of the stages a lot of it is footpaths or private tracks.

will also depend when peoples events are. people competing early probably wont be at the ceremony at all so are out of the reckoning. fwiw I was surprised it wasn’t ennis but murray is an entirely worthy choice

It’s worth noting that as for it not getting out until now that’s actually the system working for once isn’t it? For once there was no leak, at least not until the very last minute.

It was broken by the daily mail and ordinarily I couldn’t give a shit what they think, especially when the whereabouts system is so onerous and there really is very little money and infrastructure around women’s cycling to help them with this stuff unlike mens BUT the response from her peers has been pretty damning. No ormerta there. Her peers think it stinks and I am inclined to listen to them.

A rival 10 speed shifter and an x9 clutch mech will also work. Bit more spendy than changing the tension spring though

powburn or alnwick? they are quite far apart (at least in cycling terms) if powburn theres the carriage drive around rothbury – offroad double trck with easy gradients and views. And the roads north west of rothbury up into the national park are quiet. as others have said avoid the a697 and the a1. if on the coast the A1068 north of amble is ok, and you can’t go wrong with any of the small roads around there up to bamburgh.

The signed mountainbike route the sandstone way skirts through north bit of the area too.

He has a pretty huge ego, that it very clear after reading his book.

I’ve always had a soft spot for millar as the last of the british riders who came through when cycling was niche pre wiggomania. I read his first book and warmed to him even more but the latest one ‘the racer'(?) is about him grinding various axes about how his career wound down and he does come across as aoneone who needs a take a look at himself a good few times in it.

Horrible descent from Froome! Ugliest thing I think I’ve ever seen on a road bike. There’s taking risks and then there is descending like a bag of spanners but somehow fluking it. I like to think the other contenders just refused to demean themselves by following.

Yep cav and Bernie gained 4 minutes on the autobus on that last climb. As they said on itv he clearly held on to a car massive effort on that last climb.

no you’ve got 90% of it. One argument is the unintended consequence of the 3k rule is all the GC riders’ teams fight to get beyond the 3k line before they relax a bit. At the same time all the sprinters teams are fighting for room to set up for their sprints. competing objectives for finite road leads to friction. Well except for lampre who tootle along at the back with steve cummings doing I don’t know what exactly.

there is an alternative argument that its the flat first week of the tour, its a complete non issue but theres nothing else to talk about.

You can take the car onto Morfa bychan beach and just chill there all day. Big rock cafe on Porthmadog is good too in a if-Howies-did-food way.

For mtb There’s the obvious drive up to Snowden for an evening or cyb but not a lot of mountainbiking on the peninsula. You can string together some legal and some cheek that’s ok but If you can’t travel with the bike I’d say road.
