Arsey Landowners and gamekeepers are still your biggest worry. There will be no ‘man’ from the government up on the moor with a clipboard fineing anybody.

It’s more recognising the value of what’s already there. It won’t change any rights of way. As a side note often moorland peat habitats have been artificially dried and drained over the years which is harming habitats and causing erosion and downstream flooding. There is encoragement and some grants for blocking up the drains and rewetting moorland. If, IF, such a scheme happened here it might make your trails a bit soggier but otherwise that’ll be it.

Would deep section wheels make much difference in CX?

It’s more a side effect of the lightweight road rims, that said deep rims are meant to cut through and hold their line Better through deep sand and mud. More useful cross traits.

its a great event and a good route to do once. loads of marshals and locals out cheering you on. hardknott pass is absolute bullshit though.

Anyone done it before? Is it all wide tracks or do they put in anything that could be called singletrack?

shit infrastructure and no cycling culture in the uk.

You should have the right of way to the letter of the highway code and the courts are now starting to acknowledge this if it came to that but in the real world if a big metal box is indicating left across you make a practical judgement.

Depends how they do it I suppose. I had the misfortune to see marcus bridgestock recently, whose whole ‘act’ seemed to revolve around calling ukip, brexit & tories voters ****. It wasnt comedy, unless you agreed with his odious views.
Ive always liked rich hall though, so hopefully will be entertaining.

    You’d hate Ben Elton

for 100 years we have both wanted other peoples oil and been in competition with Russia

in that case it should only be tubs. proper cross and hipster

but if you insist on appropriating a successful mountain bike technology clement have very nearly redone their whole line in tubeless. their pdx tread is a great mud tread that actually works well for most things.

Right next to the part that says it has nothing to do with Brexit?

You know when you got dumped and they said ‘it’s not you it’s me’ you believed that as well didn’t you?

No im not having the doffed cap we’ve got to think of others mustn’t grumble attitude. There’s miles of accessible Tracks running north and west of Ambleside. This was one little bit and they’ve **** it up. It was a fantastic feature, they’ve tamed either side but I thought this was safe. What’s the point of a trail if there’s nothing to walk to? Loads of people just potter to this bit and back because it was interesting and worth walking to.

Last time I was up they had tamed to the top of the elterwater descent but not the descent itself. That’s an absolute gem. I’m a bit worried now. :-/

Get biketreks red route over to grizedale. Good low level route with some techy climbs and a couple of good really descents wrapped up in a nice old fashioned xc all dayer. Makes a good complement to a day of hike s bike and plummets over ban bield

Big list price but Salsas always seem(ed) to have big discounts end of season whereas surly seem more steady and less model year driven.

Have you been on the moon OP? Pound has been falling for months because of fear of brexit before it then fell even more because of actual brexit. We have dragged the euro down with us apparently and international finance types have been Buying dollars.

First they came for the marmite, then the salsas. Next year it will be iPhones, cars, clothes, diesel…

Don’t discount Clements they come up big. Their 33 is nearer a 35 in bonty, Michelin or challenge. If you do race even at regional level there is a simple logic for not going beyond 33c: mud room on the average cross bike.

crocket is a very very sorted cross frame. very good clearance. its got bridge less chain stays, hallelujah! Raced and won at world level too.

XLS has a lot less clearance and a stupid big shelf to collect crud.

Planning permission for small stuff is a grey area.

But listed building consent is a completely different set of regs. It’s an absolute must. Mess it up and it’s a criminal offence as has been said. And for small stuff it won’t be hard to get, but you do need to know why your building is important from the listed building register. If your building is listed because it has the finest kitchen ceilings in the county then you can’t put veluxes in but if it’s all about the front windows or the porch etc. Then you will get ok for veluxes they just might want a heritage design it certain colours. One the joys of being a custodian of the nations heritage.

    Funny aint it
All you middle class had to do, was to allow some of the benefits of “coach ticket” migration to filter down to the working class rather than grasping them all to your selves…

    Funny ain’t it.

All the coalition had to do, was not cause a double dip ressession and launch an ideological attack on public services and terms and conditions and blame it on migrants rather than holding their hands up and saying actually it’s all our fault.

So far in the Uk the case for fracking is more about cheaper raw materials for the domestic chemical industry rather than as a fuel for electricity generation. Grangemouth, Runcorn, Teesside etc. Will gobble the stuff up. Like opencast The jobs getting the stuff out of the ground will be negligible.

social work is the most ridiculously undervalued profession. Its so important. Society should hold it in the same regard as doctors.

I cant fathom it. I see the picture and I’m not calling this bloke a liar but, but… It doesn’t compute. What’s he been doing to do this to himself? he can’t have been using this in a race as they are still banned??

It’s an established technology. It’s 20 years+ now in MTB. And The ‘but MTB/road are different’ just doesn’t wash anymore. It’s been used in cross for 3 years now. Pro level cross is full of packriding and high speeds and crashes. No one has moaned. No one had been cut or burnt. they have just got on with it.

sorry i’m confusing the point by dancing on a pin head of spanish food definitions. the point is madrid has lots of very very good food.

context. that crossing is just after parliament square where the new light system holds you for HOURS. it then releases you across the junction which doesn’t have a pedestrian crossing at the other side but a 100 foreign tourists all looking the wrong way step out in front of you anyway. So the cyclist will have just had 47 near misses just like this one 10 seconds before getting here and will have a heart rate of 210bpm. Really that pedestrian is lucky he wasn’t murdered.

oh and they don’t really do tapas in madrid
nearly choked on my Tortilla there. OK, you have to pay for it but there’s loads of great tapas in Madrid.

well alright not literally, but the south does it better.

hings to do inside: palace interior, guernica
things outside: retiro on a sunday, plaza mayor, the egyptian temple randomly in the park as a present form one fascist to another.

oh and they don’t really do tapas in madrid, you can get it but its more of a southern thing, that said there is a good one near atocha at the end of calle de la huertas

But the thing for me about madrid there is no absolutely amazing set piece tourist attraction you must see its the vibe of the whole place, get up have a breakfast in a bar, mooch round a park, coffee at 11 in a bar, another mooch, lunch at 2-3 o’clock in a bar, chill/sleep till 5 have another mooch till 9 eat some food in a bar, drink in a bar, sleep. repeat.

go up to area north of gran via where the movida started is amazing to cruise around, plazas comendadoras, mayo, san ildefonso lots a shops, family, bars, cafes, restaurants.

In fact Entertainingly Madrid is also stuck in peak fixie circa 2006 so there are lots of achingly cool hipsters on track bikes cruising around. kapplemuur is a good bike shop but a bit roadie.

    i really really like madrid
