My advice would be to think exactly what you want the road bike for
training? commuting? racing? club runs? posing? etc etc.
Then go to a good bike shop and talk to them.

Don't just read a few reviews in a mag or get some recommendations off here and buy off the web. This is a mistake as you will probably get the wrong bike and the wrong size for you.

I would recommend the vendee or gascony. A very good site in the vendee for younger children is camping Bel at La Tranche Sur la Mer. Nice quite small site close to the beach, small town and a big supermarket very much geared to the under 10s. There are lots of sites along the atlantic coast which offer good beach holidays and you should hopefully get reasonable weather.
