Why get 3/4 much better to get knee warmers and shorts so as you warm up you can take them off. Assos shorts are particularly good but I would also take a look at santini their twist gel inserts, very comfy.

It’s true we have many steep climbs in this country but they are also very short ( granted they dont feel it when your riding up them ), climbs in the alps and pyrennes are far far longer although often not as steep but can be a lot harder. However I think the Angrilu in Spain combines both elements with a number of ramps of 20%+ and 12k length, I havent ridden it ( I have ridden the tourmalet, the alpe, galibier, ventoux ,croix de fer amongst others )but in pro cycling I think its considered the worst. In fact its only fairly recently that it has been considered climbable in a race.

Yes, build it up with chorus or record with some lightish wheels for 17-18lb. If good enough for the likes of merckx, saronni, motta, etc to race on. Iv’e never owned a Colnago but will do, one day! I still remember the effect those bikes had on me in my youth, exotic, magical ridden by heros.

I’d maybe go for a dolan mythos or kiron scandium, if I had to plumb for one I’d go for the kiron , very good frame and decent kit.

Personally I would suggest you get a hrm then you can train in specific heart rate zones. Interval training is a good way to improve fitness but try and have a variety of riding eg long easy paced rides. A good place to start for your intervals would be at lactate threshold around 80% mhr. Try to have a routine and stick to it make sure you build in rest days.

I really hope its good, unfortunately history tells us that alan moore doesn’t translate well to the cinema. Have to wait and see, at the moment its all the pre release big budget hype so its hard to know, trailers can make anything look good.

open pave are very very good indeed Ive had mine on all this winter and have been really impressed. However not that cheap and you have to like green but well worth it imo.

To say ksyriums are rubbish is silly , they are as stated overpriced ( certainly sl premiums, sl’s far better value )and a little heavy now compared to some of the competition but they aren’t rubbish.
I would take a look at the shimano’s, I was just riding with two guys tonight who race regularly and know their stuff and they really rate them. ( I personally would listen to their views more than many people ). Have you also thought about some nuetron ultras Ive got and old set of nuetrons which I use for training and they are truly bombproof and fairly light so the ultras should be worth a look and around your price mark. Having said that I would still go handbuilt.

Get another set of handbuilt wheels, dont be seduced by the bling colours and graphics it doesn’t improve your riding. Tune hubs ( mig mag?) open pros too good for the wife surely as good if not better than any of the factory wheels you have mentioned imo.

I’ve had a few over the years and I would say
    Lusso- cheap but dont last
Assos- very disapointing expensive and lost shape after 1 season .
Spesh – superb – warm ,keep their shape, well made.
Santini- may also be good, Im sitting in a pair of their bibs at the moment and they are sooo comfy on the bike.

It doesnt matter how many times he was tested because the tests could be fooled !!!!! ( in so so many ways) Marion Jones was tested 160 times and never failed one, she now admits using drugs throughout her career. Aldag, Zabel, Millar,Riis etc etc never failed tests they all now admit using drugs throughout their career. This testing line he uses and his apologists is BULLS**** which I hope people now see through. Also be aware he came back saying in Vegas he was going to be totally open using Don Catlin and publish all his results he has ditched him saying it was too expensive this from the man who donated $500,000 to the UCI. Transparency Lance you must be having a laugh.

Personally I think there is a similarity between Kimmage and Armstrong they both have an inner bitterness. Kimmage in the way he was treated by the peleton because he didn’t/wouldn’t dope and then told tales ( naughty naughty no one likes a tale teller) and Armstrong because with every rumour, old team mate failing a test /admitting doping, tour scandal, whistle blowing expose devalues his seven tour wins. He watched Sastre winning on the Alpe last year going up slower than he had and his ego said you could still beat these guys and prove you did it clean. It wont happen Lance and for most fans you will always be just be a doper who didnt get caught. I think that might be some sort of justice. Anyway Im off to watch the tour of dopers (I mean California).

ortlieb panniers are very very good , Ive also heard that dhb at wiggle are not bad as a cheaper alternative. I got my ortliebs on e bay and imo they make a good s/h buy as they are so well made.

Sixam the lab offered to test lance’s famous 99 tour samples last year, he refused I also notice he has parted with Catlin , so much for complete transparency.

No Giro, no Vuelta, no roubaix etc etc, etc. Targetting one race surely doesn’t mean world dominance in anyones book. I am not saying seven tours is not phenominal. It just seems to me a reflection of the type of hyperbole, that goes with the legend that is Lance.

Amstrong world dominance! no! What other tours did he win? What classics?

I find the Amstrong line about “most tested athlete on the planet so I must be clean” such bull*****. Marion Jones was tested 160 times and never tested positive, many many riders who now have admitted doping ( zabel, aldag, Riis, etc, etc )also passed the same tests he spouts prove he was clean, sadly they prove nothing.

As justa says the pave can have an amazing effect. I’ve got one on my rather harsh aluminium training bike and the improvement in comfort was dramatic !, well worth it.
