My 46 mm reynolds are definately not harsh in fact I would say one of the most comfortable wheels I have.

    Depends
If you ride fast then aero rims can make a big difference. If you are not used to tubeless I would forget them they do have their advantages but clinchers are now so good that their advantage perceived or real is quite slim.
Also what does all round use mean? If it isn't training, racing or sportives. If it means pootling about at less than 18-20mph( nothing wrong in that btw) then save your money and buy a quality pair of handbuilt quality clinchers- lighter, stiffer, easier to repair and serivice than your aksiums.

Cycling like many things contains a huge amount of snobbery, elitism and nonesense both marketing and from individuals egos. From the I have spent a fortune on my bike so I must be good to the inverse point I am sooooo good I can beat you on the delivery bike.

I think they are a pretty new company, they are on Lees Road.

I have a feeling this bike will look like it came from the set of Avatar however Paul Hewitt really does have a great reputation as a frame builder which will mean that after a very long cold wet audax ride you will feel comfortable and you won't give a shit about the aesthetics of the frame.

Then personally I would say its a no brainer go for the boardman I have seen a couple at races this year and they look really nice bike.

The Boardman is far better proper cross bike ( light frame, stiff BB30 bottom bracket, full carbon fork, quality finishing kit ritchey , SRAM FSA groupset,)
However if you are looking for cross/ commuter go for the tricross as it has mudgaurd and rack mounts.

I think the buyer pick up thing is really an issue when all other buyers are prepared to post you aren't. With s/h tents the majority 90%+ are pick up only so it less of a problem as long as you don't live in the middle of nowhere. We have just sold a tent on e bay and had no problems getting interest and selling it with pick up only.

I've seen quite a few people racing on them without too many complaints, think its a case of you get what you pay for, the frame is £350 so lets face it it's never going to be the stiffest or highest quality .However it's not what I would choose for comuting and training.

It's simple you buy some neww wheels for your road bike and put the old ones on the cross bike.

Try isla bikes , Quest bikes used to do a chlid frame or kinesis do very nice small youth frames or go to someone like Bob Jackson and get a handbuilt frame not as expensive as you think. One thing I would do is get in touch with a local club as they often have someone with youth frame bike that they are trying to sell. BTW I think many will tell you that at 1.4m 650c may well be a better choice.

I haven't bought any new assos shorts for a couple of seasons but I have heard as njee points out that the quality has gone down a bit ( although I do wonder if this is a bit of " back in my day talk" ) . What I would say is every piece of assos clothing I own is superb both in terms of quality, comfort and fit and as a result when I need to I will probably stump up the cash for more assos shorts.
For comfort santini shorts with twist gel inserts are excellent but don't wear as well.

Boonen on some nice handbuilts and I wouldn't be suprised if Ballan's were too just re stickered to keep the sponsors happy.

when was the last time a "race" was won on "hand built" wheels?

    😯 erm all the time.
    £500 isn't high end
And it's not the just cost of the spoke its the time you have to wait for your lbs to order it.

Depends as clint would say " Are you feeling lucky punk"
Seriously a few more rides but wear indicators are there for a reason.

Personally I would set yourself a budget and then see what is the best groupset you can see with the most current discount ( merlin is always a good place for discounted groupsets). eg if you were looking at full price Rival (£699) get Dura Ace 7800 ( merlin £649) for about the same price.
Whatever anyone tells you there isn't a massive difference between SRAM Shimano and Campag when comparing equvilantly priced groupsets. For me its campag but I know that choice is based on a huge amount of predjudice rather than fact.

Really the only way to go is handbuilt, find a good wheelbuilder, someone like Paul Hewitt or Derek at wheelsmith loads of others too, tell him what you want ( he will have far more knowledge about " race" wheels than many of the posters on here) and you will get a set of wheels that will be lighter, easier to service and last longer than many of the suggestions given.
Oh and don't go talking about the darkside as they will just think you are a complete T1T.

Neither get some handbuilt ones instead. Lighter and easier to service/repair which will be built to your requirements weight etc. It really is the only way to go.
Look at hubs such as ultegra/ambrosio/record/hope with open pro/excellight/dt swiss rims. Some of these combinations may be a little more than the wheels you have mentioned but wil be far far superior.

Which alternatives are we talking about? Looks? I'll conceed that say, Time's are better but I really do think looks are a bit crap. (If you'd not gathered). My son rides at the track every week so he's very used to Looks but as soon as we went out for a road ride and he had to clip in without the benefit of a rail to lean on, he really struggled.

Plus the cleats looked terrible after only a few minutes walking around at a cafe.

The only advantage of roadie pedals as far as I can see is they they offer a much wider platform thus presumably spreading the weight around a bit more but that's nothing a decent shoe shouldn't already accomplish.

WTF +1 Your son needs to learn to track stand!!!!!!

Have always used Look pedals with very few problems however if I was starting from scratch again I would definatly go for speedplay zeros. Why? low weight, easy double sided entry, low stack height and great float adjustment.
