You know it Dom. The steel frame rides well like the Ti you've ridden. Don't know about the mmmBop because I've not ridden one, but it's lighter and would I imagine be ace with a set of big tyres on. A young lad like you doesn't need to worry about comfort.

Some nice out and back riding along the west edge of Windermere. Either going from High Wray or the car park just north of the ferry crossing point.

If you're there and like a good paced 3 hour night ride get along to Biketreks in Ambleside for 6.30pm. You might just get to see the best trails in the Lakes.

I've not clicked the link, but can you just confirm that's it's not porn?

    Very good.

Chainring eating, bike breaking, multiple puncture, rock slab fest.

Sounds ace. They should put that as a tag line for the place 🙂

I'd recommend the SMBLA route. Cyclewise do very good courses and also host an excellent 1st aid training course.

You can park and ride from here. They'll give you directions to the trails and have maps in the cafe.

Otherwise Cocklet Hill car park, which will have Fuzzy Duck "cappuccino caravan" in attendance.

Here's Singletrack Matt's BFe, with Fox 36 Talas and Hammerschmidt, that I was riding in the Lakes for a while in August.

Another one for a Lapierre 920 DH although I'd have to bung in the extra £500 or so.

50mm on my Ti. Try it, it's what it was designed to have and it climbs just fine. If you don't like it you'll have no problem selling a 50mm stem!

Sim reviewed the ST4 in the Singletrack magazine. I rode it briefly and really liked it. As folk say – light, low, snappy and the linkage seems to do it's magic to combine a feeling of plushness without wallow.

Orange have a demo bike and it's just been up at one of the Biketreks demo days. There are people on here who went.

I like it because you can do this on it.

Braking point, line choice and looking where you want to be going are the areas you want to get sorted before getting funky with your elbow. Good luck with it.

Technical and fun it certainly is. Best enjoyed in playful sections ridden a few times. There is plenty of challenge in finding good lines. Once you've ridden round it all you'll start to get your bearings and be able to short cut to your favorite bits.

Yes there is a campsite near the Dog & Partridge. It's Hartley's campsite 01729 840662. It was recommended to me by the pub, although I haven't stayed there yet.

Let us know how you get on.

I've booked, wanna sort out berms, switchbacks, slow riding, fast riding, bunnyhops, manuals, wheels on the ground, wheels in the air.

    Might be a long day

Sounds like you've just outlined days 1,2 and 3 stumpyjon!

I'm sure we'll make a good start on it.

If you call in at http://www.dogandpartridgetosside.co.uk/ they will show you where to get to the trails from there and where the DH tracks are. You can also park there. Very nice people.

DH tracks are still intact despite the felling – they just look completely different without the trees!

Well worth a trip to Gisburn it's a good ride out with plenty of engaging technical sections and fun bits.

OK for those who would like to go to Gisburn Forest can I suggest a STW Forum day on Saturday 14th November?

I'll put this date up on my site and people can just book direct with me rather than trying to organise it on here.

If anyone would prefer Lee Quarry get in touch or have a look at the Stop Crashing day on 3rd October that has 4 places still free.

    Cheers.

I'd be happy to sort out a group skills day for you all up at Lee Quarry, although I don't do group discounts for skills days I'm afraid. It would be rather unfair to all the people who come along and pay the asking price.

As for dates, all I have free in October in is Sunday 4th or Sunday 11th. There are however four places free on my Stop Crashing day at Lee Quarry on Saturday 3rd October if anyone is interested. Check out my site for details http://www.great-rock.co.uk

From November I'm running skills days at Gisburn Forest starting with one on Saturday 7th. Saturdays 14th and 28th are free at the moment. As the weather gets worse Lee Quarry can be a bit exposed and the the extra tree cover of Gisburn as well as the sanctuary of The Dog and Partridge will be most welcome I think.

My email is ed@great-rock.co.uk if you want to get in touch.

    Cheers

White Nokon cables on the Mojo. Paint has worn off and they creak. I oil them up with GT85 but it doesn't stop the creak for long. For the price they are I would say that's pretty bad.

Goodridge system on my Ragley Ti works a treat.

Bolt through fork will be a good improvement too.

Good build, apart from as you point out, the tyres. Enjoy it.

NIce one Tony. So what's your build then and have you got any pics….of the bike – I know what you look like.

Lyric U turn would be an excellent choice (and I have ridden both Lyric and Blue Pig)

50mm stem and 27" plus wide bars.
Bolt through 140 forks (Revelations on my Ti) or Fox 36 Talas if you want the ultimate.
Strong wheels because it's fun to go fast on rocky ground on this bike.
    SLX double and bash cranks.
    2.35 and wider tyres.
Ride the fork and don't go hanging off the back all the time. It's a bike that responds well to aggressive riding.

Awesome Mike. You're 'The Dude' that endurance mountain biking needs.

I genuinely enjoyed following your training and preparation for the K100. Looking forward to seeing your new bike.

I can't do the 23rd, can I cheat and head out on the 22nd?

There is always a "suspension of disbelief" clause in the media. So yes, I think cheating in moderation is allowed.

Lee Quarry is a great place to ride and it makes for a good place to do quite intensive skills sessions.

Got one in a box at home waiting to be built up. That's not much help is it.

My lad Nial won it for himself at SSUK09 and will be building it up as soon as I collect all the parts for him. Think I will be having few goes myself.

He looked like he was going to stack it didn’t he? Made me jump. Nearly out of my skin! Go Nial.

Yes the jump is at the bottom of what was the trials hill climb.
