ruler of the kingdom of scholey hill – Are you hanging off the back of the bike on descents like you have done with your previous bikes? This is a bike that you can ride with more body weight over the front end. The slack head angle makes you less likely to get sent over the bars. In what way do you feel better with the longer stem?

    Awesome!

    Anyone wearing just a vest?

BFe climbs pretty good with 160mm fork IME. I rode one in the Lakes in the summer and left the Talas 36 at 160mm most of the time. Will wander on steeper climbs as stated above. With no headset spacers under the stem and a wide flat bar you should be fine. I think it's something that is easy enough to adapt to. Elbows down, thumbs on top!

BFe is great with 160mm fork as is the Blue Pig.

    Straitline pedals are lovely

Another recommendation for Wellgo B-54s which can't be beaten for value and have fantastic grip

Feels balanced to me. The thing I like about light frames is that you can put burly components on without the whole bike weighing a ton. 36s will be fine on a SL, the frame is the same as the Mojo, just the trimmings that are lighter AFAIK.

Can you fit 160mm forks on the standard mojo?

No problem and it even says it's OK to do so on the Ibis site. I run mine with 160mm Fox 36 Floats, as in the photo above. With a low rise bar it climbs just fine as well.

Good news. Enjoy it and ride it like you stole it…even though you paid for it 🙂

Awesome. We should send up our school children who are off school to come and help dig!

It's a great bike. I've given mine some big stick and it's not broken! The cracks in the paint are reported to have been cured by the use of rubberised paint with the SL.

Say i was to vandalize my slx triple into a single / double what would be the best way of going about it? its nothing i've really done before.

Just replace the big ring with a bash ring. You might want to change the 32 tooth middle ring to a 36 tooth. Adjust limit screws on the front mech and shorten the chain to fit. Bingo.

.duncan – the Blackspire Stinger is about £20 and does all you need for a double ring set up. It is bb mounted.

I've got the Race Face Atlas FR dual ring and bash set up on my Ti which works well but is about £60 more.

    Get a demo ride

Look at top tube length as a guide. I'm 5'8" and ride a 16" I'd image that will be fine for you.

    Worth the trip from Huddersfield?

As a resident of Colden, with Ragley Woods visible from my window, I am turning over in my mind whether I'd rather be here or in Huddersfield…..

Oh look here was the sunrise from my bedroom window this morning

    The riding's not bad either.

It's well shot proper mountain biking with riders who really can ride. Makes a nice change from internet guff.

high5 jedi – It is one of the coolest things, you are dead right.

jwt – No mountain biking at Hawkshead YHA next summer. They are doing art instead. A great shame.

Super smooth style. Nice coaching there!

His style is all his own, I don't coach him I just take him riding and have kept him on flat pedals. As he is the age where he knows everything he's started coaching me!

Go on, admit it…….you get just a little bit worried when he pulls stuff like that.

Not really. He's the best judge of what he can do and I leave it up to him. Have had the odd moment when he's stuffed it though! he does get quite nervous when I do something stupid though.

[/quote]nice one, must get his balls from his mother!

LOLZ. You should see the balls on his mother….

Thanks for all your kind comments.

Oh well today's session is cancelled. It's probably good fun up there today but not much good for the skills we were going to do.

Ace Hebden ride last night. Proper drifty in the snow and an iced beard too.

I'm working up there tomorrow so I'll let you know!

I imaging it'll be pretty good frozen. It will certainly solidify the mud on the top loop climb to Whelpstone Crag. The lower loop stuff should be fine under the trees. Boardwalk sections will be treacherous! If it's windy it will be f. cold in the exposed areas.

Ball of your foot for pedalling power, but middle of your foot over the pedal axle for more gnarly descending. Also dropping heels on the downs is good.

You have to relax and weight and unweight the pedals in the right places. If you're tense and stiff you'll get bounced about.

    5.10s recommended.

Blazing Saddles in Hebden Bridge have an 18" Ragley Ti that he could try. Same geometry as the Blue Pig.

Good advice above. Also worth calling in to Biketreks in Ambleside for route advice. They know the trails and will know what condition everything is in. Plus they are good people with a very nice shop full of the stuff a birthday boy needs.
