I had the same problem with the brakes Phil. A bleed fixed mine though. For now.

    Well that was hard!

Fat bikes don’t make good ‘cross bikes, but I had great fun. It went up the cobbles fine every lap and smoked the descents, but spun out on the long, flat, mud sections. Could only keep going in a really low gear.

rich c – Not Strathpuffer training. I’m training for a snow race in Finland in February, the Rovaniemi 150.

I was running 32t chainring on my 29er, but found I was having to push bigger climbs especially in Alpine/Pyreneean areas. Now I use a 28t Bling Ring from MRP with an MRP Micro chain guide. The Bling Ring fits directly on the splines of X9 cranks. 11-36 cassette on the back. It’s great. I spin out on roads and boring tracks, but who’s bothered about that?

Wouldn’t it be good if they made a 160mm Pike for 29ers?

    You heard it here 😉

Pros – big wheels are better for the general trail riding that I do. All the stuff about better rolling and more grip is true. This bike is slack. For a 29er it looks nice.

Cons – You can’t get 55s, Lyrics etc. yet. Bigger stanchions would be great. You also don’t have big travel if you want to take bigger landings etc.

It’s a Hussefelt crank. 22/32/bash. I believe it was modified by the guys in the On One workshop in Rotherham. What they did I don’t know I’m afraid. It does work and I use the granny a lot.

I like it a lot. It’s the bike I’ve chosen to ride most this year -Pyrenees, Basque Country, Alps and at home. With a CCDB Air shock and the other changes for production I’m hoping it’ll be even better.

There are photos of my prototype in the new issue of Singletrack Magazine in the bikepacking feature. As well as in MBR & Dirt! Might have been a good idea to write Titus on it somewhere 🙂

Here it is in Spanish Utah

Well for the record I was given my tyres so you have to judge for yourself how independent I am. However I wouldn’t ask for some more if I didn’t like them. I’ve only used the Smorgasbord on the rear, as I’ve had a pre-production sample Chunky Monkey up front. I’m using the 29er tyres by the way and love them. The set up I’ve got is ideal for the kind of trail riding I do – Pyrenees, Alps, Hebden Bridge, Gisburn Forest, Lakes. I’ve been using them for about 8 months of wet and a bit of dry riding. The grip/rolling resistance balance seems spot on to me.

What’s the Smorgy2 then Brant and can I have another Chunky Monkey when they come out please?

It’s about 5am where Brant is now!

As Shaggy says the 29er is due to arrive in production form in the new year. I think there may well be 2 build options, but as yet details are not announced. Expect a vey good value price though.

As for the ride, I’ve been loving it and am choosing to ride this bike all the time in preference to anything else.

Mine are 170mm yes. The 55 RC3 Ti is a fixed travel fork and to my mind all the better for that.

Yes I just use coil preload on mine. I don’t add any air.

Hey it’s all on the map and I’m sure you could just use taxis and call for pizza at night. Can’t be that hard. Monaco is ace too. Kind of like Rochdale.

Yes it’s the new Hope Line. Part volunteer built and now sponsored by Hope, who are paying contractors to put in the main features. It is being worked on at the moment and will go all the way to the forest track at the bottom of the red xc loop climb. We’re hoping to have it finished by early autumn.

The new ones are good all rounders. 2.4 gives a bit more grip (especially as a front tyre). Get Black Chilli compound as they grip more and wear well.

It’s just the best bag. So simple to use, all the padding built in. It’s really a 5 minute job to pack and unpack your bike.

I reviewed the EVOC bike travel bag here….
