It’s all on the map. Start from Limer’s Gate and explore. Great descent into Luddenden Dean . As Nige says plenty of Cheeky options as well.

You are allowed on bridleway and byway as marked on the map.

Best get out before it rains though.

I do skills sessions at Lee Quarry or in Calderdale. If you or your girlfriend want to give me a call we can chat about where she’s at with her riding, what she wants to look at and if interested set up a tailor made day. 07545 228209 or email in profile. Cheers Ed.

i900 Remote on test at the moment. Good quality and reliability so far and I liked the older non remote version too that was tested in the mag.

A 2 day outdoor first aid course will give you what you need to ride confidently in remote areas.

Cyclewise at Whinlatter have an excellent course run by Vital Signs and you can ride the trails at the end of the day.

Are there any campsites near Todmorden? Might be fun to organise an en masse descent on Tod over the summer?

    It’s bivvy country Mike!

How about a pub that brews it’s own beer “the Pennine Way?” It’s got camping and there’s more……

Bottle Rocket does look ace though. FTW.

If I were you I’d be Blood curious, I saw a diddy one up at Glentress and it sure looked spunky.

You can’t really go wrong with either of those.

Stop Crashing sessions going great Tony. Lee Quarry is a top place for skills coaching as everything is packed tight together – corners, berms, drops, roll ins, rocks etc.

The lower bb on the Mojo means you can rail round everything. The odd pedal smack is worth it for me. DW Link works a treat. What’s not to like?

This is why I like the 36s

Fox 36s make it really heavy at the front end and you end up with really slow barge like steering.

I haven’t found that the case. Talas would sharpen the steering in the middle setting, although I’m quite happy with the non travel adjust Floats, in a full travel full throttle way.

    What’s wrong with my tyres?

Nothing. I just looked at the back one and then out of my window in Calderdale.

Really good jacket, best I’ve had. Nice breathability / waterproof, looks good on & off the bike. Pockets in the right places.

Simon it will be buff, calm and we’ll be bathed in the soft light of the sunsetting over Bacup. Like this from the “Stop Crashing” skills session last Monday night.

Mojos rock. Nice colour, now give it the Fox 36s that it deserves, put some proper tyres on and give it a good spanking. Lopes Link wouldn’t go amiss either.

whats the black route like is it very tough…

As wors says above, the first section is a “qualifier” and when you’re confident over that, you’ll be fine on the rest.

The great thing about Lee Quarry is that the riding is challenging. The trails do not “hold your hand” and make it easy for you just to ride without thinking. You have to work out what the best line is for a section and the result is that it’s a much more rewarding experience when you get it right. It also makes the place worth visiting regularly. With the way that everything is in a small area you can just go and play on a section rather than riding a loop, like you do at a lot of trail centres. As such you learn more because you’re not just riding sections once.

we’re really lucky to have this place and it’s all just going to get better. Happy days for mountain biking in the area.

Nice one Elaine. How do you like the photo of Charlotte nailing the berms, up above on the STW homepage? Let the berm take you up and make sure you look through to the next one. WooHoo and YeeHaaa indeed.

I was more curious as to why there was a stack of car tyres in their office

    They’re van wheels. Come on!

Blazing Saddles bike shop is a good place to ask about routes. Stubbing Wharf is a great pub with parking and ideal for start / finish. Hole in t’Wall also a good pub. Google to find their locations.
Also about 1 million other cares, pubs, restaurants, shops.

I’ve heard there’s a good guide operating there too 🙂

In a Aguile foam padded camera case with a cloth / buff as filler. In a plastic bag as well if it’s raining hard.

Easy to replace and I’ve had no problems with sticky pistons. Pads have a screw in retaining pin.

Pads seem to have to come from Raleigh dealers. I’d look into how easy that would be for you.

I’ve got the Quad Deuce DH brake, which I tested for the magazine ages ago. They are very powerful and reliable. Still going strong.

I just gaffer taped a bit of Karrimat onto the board of the Ute and Greta sits on that, with a foot in each pannier.

I rode it 32:18 a couple of years ago and it was a bit spinny, but I did have a massive hangover from over doing it on arrival the night before, and was therefore glad of that gearing. I’d go 32:17 and drink less if I was doing it this year.

Does the ute not have a rear (cable) disc brake? What about just the mounts?

Rear V brake and no disc mounts. Odd, but still effective. Same Avid cable levers front and rear.

I agree with some of your points steel4real. There are more of us out there riding and it’s vital that we ride with courtesy and respect towards all the other people we meet on the trails. The impact of a few idiots is felt by us all.

No neither of those trails from your description. There’s a million trails round that way. That’s why we love it here.
