This always strikes me as a potential focal point.

See the nice little stone aside the FOOTPATH which happens to be a well used mountainbike track. It's here.I'll be passing it on my Sunday ride and it kind of begs someone to challenge my being there.
Ecky-ThumpFree MemberI didn't see a single walker to upset whilst out on my tour of UU footpaths in the Bolton area last evening.
Just other bikers enjoying themselves. :lol:And the only walker who commented on Wed night's outing didn't seem to appreciate that he wasn't supposed to be there any more than I was, as it wasn't even a footpath.
Ecky-ThumpFree Membermyibay is pretty good and has v.useful integration with firefox through its add-on/plug-in or whatever its called.

Ecky-ThumpFree Member2009 Meta 5 was the problem child and I think breakages were disproportionately effecting the L & XL sized frames too. The upper shock mount was attached to the top tube on the S & M sizes and they didn't seem to suffer the same.
I broke a 2009 Large. Crack propogated rearwards accross the seat tube from the weld where the top tube begins.
Replacement was a 2010 frame, which is noticably thicker in the seat tube, with the walls now being tapered down to the seat clamp (previously plain gauge). The profile of the top tube has also been deepened to provide a larger weld area.
A totally different build quality. I think they learned their lesson.Ecky-ThumpFree MemberI'm guessing the picky eaters had less offspring…
the sight of them fishing-out the bits of food they didn't quite like the look of was more that enough to put off any prospective mate.
Ecky-ThumpFree MemberSimon,
Junkyard and Samuri are both describing the same path (correctly) and it's nowhere near the flight of steps in your 2006 picture.
The path in question runs outside of the main "Chinese Gardens" area and is just a connection mainly used by walkers between the Pigeon Tower and the lower track, emerging not far below the distinctive multi-arch bridge.
To be honest, it's not as steep as it looks in your pic. I think you've just caught a section of it at the right angle to exagerate it.
Incidently, the path looks to have gotten a whole lot wider recently. We've ridden it (down) on the occasional Wed night outing.
Don't get too excited. If you were stood at the top of the ICR, you wouldn't often opt for this one in preference to ICR.Ecky-ThumpFree MemberYes – (lesser of two evils) but I fail to see why international aid was "ringfenced". I would have though that would have been first thing to go based on the fact that any loosers would not be within your own electorate [/cynicism].
Image, obligations, etc I guess.Ecky-ThumpFree MemberTraipse – Has a definate purpose, but done under some duress, and boring or tedious at the same time.
Yep, that definition hold good in the Lancashire dictionary too.
Ecky-ThumpFree MemberHow much?
Quite a bit. Maybe more that I should. Not quite too much. How do I know how much is too much???
I was working in Munich with a multi-national organisation and accepted a kind invitation from the Italian contingent to join their Espresso syndicate.
At its peak, my consumption was probably 4 to 5 before lunch.
After breaking out in a sweat and shaking uncontrollably on more than one occassion, I eventually took the hint and backed off a bit. :oops:Ecky-ThumpFree MemberI'd like to know the same, mainly because that's what I've been doing for the last year or so. Will I die?
No ill effects yet using plumbers silicone spray (more generally used to lube brake pistons) but I'd assume it should be OK as the main justification for using on brakes is that silicine allegedly doesn't deteriorate the seals. Same should apply to forks.
Can anyone verify.Ecky-ThumpFree MemberThe most bang for your buck to handle video editing is probably an I7 studio from Dell outlet.
set appropriate filters from hereI took delivery of a grade 1 "scratch and dent" one of these last month, as a desktop replacement. Not a mark on it and it absolutely flies.
I chose this spec which was about £650 delivered:
Studio 1747
Operating System
English Genuine Windows 7 Home Premium (64 BIT)
Memory 4096MB (2×2048) 1333MHz DDR3 Dual Channel
Hard Disk Drive 320GB HD (7200RPM)
2nd HDD – 320GB Serial ATA (7200RPM)
Graphics 1 GB ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4650
Media Bay Optical Drive (DVD+/-RW)
Screen 17.3in Full High Definition (1920X1080) LED with TrueLife
System Color Black Chainlink
MISC
Camera Integrated 2.0 Mega Pixel Camera
Internal UK/Irish Qwerty Keyboard
Primary 9-cell 85W/HR LI-ION
Processor Intel Core i7 720QM 1.6GHz (2.8 GHz Turbo Mode, 6MB Cache)The combination of processor performance, RAM, twin HDDs, 1080 screen and graphics card should make it pretty good for video editing IMHO (I'm no expert).
Build quality surpassed my expectations too.Ecky-ThumpFree MemberIf you constantly get flats then that's more of a benefit but I'd say that for most folks flats are a rare irritation
I'd have to agree 100% with Northwind on the first part of that…. and disagree 150% with the second part (from a personal perspective).
I guess I'm just clumbsy but I'd more often than not pick up a pinch flat on each and every rocky downhill before I went tubeless. None since. :D
Only downside is tearing sidewalls instead of pinch flatting so I've now gone for a heavier UST on the back (formerly standard single ply).
I wouldn't profess to notice any difference in use due to tubeless. I just don't have the pinchflat problem any more.Ecky-ThumpFree MemberThe ancient Lancastrian martial art, of vintage Goodies fame.
Also rather partial to black pudding (Oooh-err).Ecky-ThumpFree MemberThanks all,
Plenty of options there.
I'll do some research tonight.Ecky-ThumpFree MemberWhat pressures are you running, and is it the 2.35?
Its a 2.0 at 40psi
I think the issue might be partly due to the Stan's rim allowing so much sidewall to be "in harm's way" on the 2.0
Might have been a bad choice.Maxxis are introducing a sidewall reinforcement on selected tyres in their range (they're calling it "exo-protection")-
More good info, thanks. I'll go looking for some of these. Are they in shops yet?
Ecky-ThumpFree MemberThanks guys,
I'll check out the Nevegal SWS and the Spesh.
The Halo on CRC is probably worth a shot at that price too. Looks grippier and and will probably need a bit more effort to drive it along but I'll give it a try I think (dusty weather can't last for ever).Ecky-ThumpFree MemberIf you like the Larsen TT, it does come in UST flavour.
Ah, I didn't know that. Thanks.
Captains grip like doodoo to a blanket.
Must be worth a try – Had a quick check on CRC, Ribble & Merlin but they don't seem to stock Spesh tyres. Where from?
Ecky-ThumpFree MemberGo look at specialized's range of tyres. Best VFM I have found and they are brilliant bits of rubber.
Any experience of these on Stans rims? Good fit?
Ecky-ThumpFree MemberYeah, I was thinking it would be either a UST or a dual ply to try next.
I'd probably lean towards a different Maxis tyre as first choice but I'll check out the RubberQueens next time I'm in a shop.
TaEcky-ThumpFree MemberI had no problems using yellow tape and normal non-UST.
Single ply Minnions & Larsen TT went up with just track pump (didn't even need to remove valve core).
Inflating with a tube in first, then removing it leaving one bead fitted seamed to work well.Ecky-ThumpFree MemberBenjiM – Member
My girlfriends next door neighbor was killed yesterday in a motorbike accident. He left behind 3 young girls and a wife. He was a very successful electrician just about to move to a bigger house too. Such a huge shame, really nice fella too. He's from Longridge near Preston.
I've just heard via another source that the Longridge bloke's accident was a head-to-head between two bikes near Hawes, so I think its a safe bet you were talking about the same tragedy BenjiM.
Just goes to show how widely a tragedy like this effects so many, in one way or another.Ecky-ThumpFree MemberHi Elsa,
I guess from you're name and location that we met on the Boggies Skipton ride on Monday.
We'd likely include Healey Nab in a Wed night ride from Abbey Village or Rivi, as its great but not realy a ride in its own right.
The Wednesday southern rides only usually get organised over the chat forum and so don't often get on the rides list but I'll gladly drop you an email next time we're planning something out that way if you want.Ian S
Ecky-ThumpFree MemberThere's been a spate of good deals recently on 17inch I7 laptops with "cat1" cosmetic damage on Dell outlet.
I'm waiting for this one to arrive (due today):Studio 1747
Operating System
English Genuine Windows 7 Home Premium (64 BIT)

Primary 9-cell 85W/HR LI-ION
Processor Intel Core i7 720QM 1.6GHz (2.8 GHz Turbo Mode, 6MB Cache)I'm no expert but that sounded like a pretty good desktop replacement for about £650 inc VAT and delivery.
Opinions?Ecky-ThumpFree MemberCan't make the 1st, so I took a sneaky trip up there last night to check it out.
Jees' that's one hell of a climb from the Buck!!!
Worth it though – the quarry's an absolute scream. It's a bit addictive… "just one more drop", just one more berm", "just a bit more", "This bit was good last lap – I'll just do it again", "just one more time through that drop", "I'll stop and rest in a bit".
Really quite entertaining :D
It just keeps egging you on faster and faster until you inevitably loose it and it spits you off so you can take a breather.Warning though. The pub was shut when we got down about 9:30
Ecky-ThumpFree MemberI was in the same quandry last year wrt my 08 Rockhopper.
Bang on queue there appeared the On-One offer on Reba Teams. Sadly the offer is long since ended but the forks are great and suit the bike well.I was on the point of getting rid of the Rockhopper but the Reba Teams made me fall in love with it all over again. Very happy with 'em at 100mm but might even run 'em out to 120mm and give that a try when they're next due some TLC.
If I was to replace the Rockhopper, it'd be with something with a higher BB and slacker head/longer fork so trying 120mm on it might not be so crazy.
Any experiences out there?Ecky-ThumpFree MemberThe chip shop sneaked up on me and caught me unawares at lunch time today.
First major slip in months. (like little slips don't count).
Now I feel lousy.Ecky-ThumpFree Member+1 for what Big John said.
Assuming you've effectively increased the size of the "middle" ring (assuming 36T double), then the contours on the inner face of the front mech (that allow space to accomodate the full range of the cassette) will need to be higher if anything, rather than lower.
I found it best to set front mech height by positioning its widest point around the chain whilst in larger (formerly middle) chainring and lowest gear of cassette.
That was my experience anyway, for what its worth.Ecky-ThumpFree MemberBlacko; Barrowford; Wheatley Lane; Fence; Higham – all nice enough places to live with good road connections and far enough away from Nelson!
