Alright, reading that back it did sound a bit 🙄

    Let me rephrase it:
There aren’t many Lakeland mountains that you can ride up, but if you don’t mind lugging a bike up them then the reward is invariably worth it.

Did 4 passes last Summer. A cracking route.
A few dabs on Warnscale though, so need to go back for another go (‘cos it’s possibly the best bit)

[edit] Bit surprised that some folk think there’s something wrong with hike-a-bike. How the hell do they expect to be able to ride up anything that’s good to ride down? [/edit]

Never seen fit to sink to the depths of talking work on here… but I’ll make an exception for this…
You would not believe the effort, cost and manpower involved in moving nn,000 machines in a business from XP to W7, and updating a server estate from 2003 to 2008 simultaneously, with n,000 apps sat on that estate and a significant number of these with W7 incompatibilities.
    Welcome to my world.

Ignoring Hora’s problems for a minute… I found that linked article really interesting. The final postscript Q&A about how the free stroke on a Shimano works clarifies a lot too.

Having previously been an advocate of LHM and having used it for a few years in previous generation Shimano brakes, I am happy to declare that I have today had my mind changed by a well articulated discussion on t’interweb. 😯

I’m also glad I bought a big bottle of Shimano oil when I started using M785 XTs

Didn’t bother putting the Winter tyres on at all this Winter.
Bought a spare set of alloys off a scrapyard a couple of years ago, so it’s quick and easy to swap over as appropriate. Just never got around to it this time.

Well, last night was shakedown flight for the new build, with a smorg on the back and a chunkey monkey on the front.
Tubeless on flows. Bike is a 456ti

    Findings:
The chunky is brilliant! Massive, not much clearance within a ‘zocchi 44ti fork with a mucky-nutz in there. Went up easily enough with garden-sprayer as a compressor.

The smorg also went up easily enough but didn’t survive long in use.
Felt the rim a couple of times when riding up short flights of steps. (Which surprised me at >30psi)
On the second run down a rubbly-bouldery descent (Rivi ICR) I managed to destroy the thing. Two cuts in the tread beyond the healing capacity of Stans. Back to dual ply minion on the back I think 🙁

If you’re already staying on the French side (Reims), then I’d strongly suggest doing the remaining journey in one go.
We do the trip down to Dolomites/Garda fairly often either for biking or skiing and usually do it in one go from Rotterdam.

As other have said, you don’t want to be on the roads near Munich/Inntal on a Saturday.

Its a terrible place. The ridings rubbish too

Think I’ll have to have to go back again tonight just to check that the riding’s still rubbish 😉

Lockout probably won’t make a five climb any better than propedal. You get much more traction if the suspension is working for you, you just want to avoid the worst of the energy wasting suspension dive and Propedal wil do that just fine.

I’d assumed the work would have stopped for Winter, but the pic of people working on Llanberis side suggests otherwise.

Please could a suitably capable twitterer ask her what the current state of the work on the Ranger Path is and when it’s planned to be complete. Also, are the bags of stone which have been flown in still on the path?
    Thanks

    just bookmarking this.

There was also contact info for someone responsible for planning the work if I remember correctly.

Will be visitting again before 1st of May and would appreciate knowing if Rangers is unobstructed yet.

Another option for you Rik is Rhyd Du. It’s quite a good descent but very exposed and thus weather dependent.

    Cheers guys,
euain, I’ll take a look at those when I get home tonight.

Not really inclined towards trail centres but might consider Laggan then if the weather conspires against us.

    How big a big bike?

    Not massive… Patriot with a 66ti… 39lbs

so, yes, ‘Dudes’ stuff in Linlochleven area would be ideal. Any specifics?

I held the gate at the top of Beast (fluffy kitten) for our group on Sunday afternoon.
It was shut when we arrived… so it was shut when we left.

    I’m a clumsy fat get
and that’s why I love tubeless.
Dual ply maxxis on Stans Flows on both full sus bikes. Bombproof.

Mud-X on Crest still holding up well on the XC hardtail.

Best family-friendly resort we’ve done is Kronplatz in Italy, because everything centres on one point so it’s easy to regroup.
Good variety of ski schools too.
One thing to be wary off: Next year Easter is early so Fascing week, when the slopes are full of p!$$ed up Germans and Dutch, will be 14/02 onwards.

Ladybower, WLT, Hag Farm, Win Hill, lots of cheeky.
    Lugging a 39lb Patriot over 22 miles and 3500ft ascent – characterbuilding. 😉
NB the climb from near the bottom of Beast (fluffy kitten) to Win Hill has been trashed by forestry machinery. DON’T go that way!

    6’3″ with long legs.
    20″ Five (26-er)
    18″ Patriot

Previously had a XL meta 5 but found it far less manouverable on tech.

Got an XL Liteville 301 on the way, 26″ rear/27.5″ front

    10. Very easy.
Couple of things to note though.
    1. Buy either the Shimano funnel or some other bleedkit that screws into the lever.
    2. If you find that you can’t force any fluid up from the caliper towards the lever, you probably need to back the free stroke adjuster screw off a turn or so. I don’t know why, but it seems to isolate the master cylinder from its reservoir if screw in too far, preventing fluid from bleeding back into the reservoir.

    JESUS!
I got taken out on that roundabout whilst on my roadbike. That was about two years ago now!
Car accelerating off the inner lane of the roundabout to join the motorway, just as I was crossing the sliproad. He hit me from roughly 5 o’clock direction and I went over the bonnet but only suffered a few cuts and bruises.
The little sod had the gaul to dispute liability too. Had to take it through CTC insurance.
    Could have been worse then…

I’ve just sent my 2012 Crimson Ti’s back and waiting for some 2014 Warranty replacements.
One edge has delaminated slightly in multiple areas. Just a one-off manufacturing fault but the shop have been really helpful and got the rep to put me some to one side for me whilst they investigate.

I got mine through Outdoor Action in Blackburn. Mark, in their ski dept is a top guy and does a good price on everything. I know that the Crimson is not currently on their website, but on the basis that he’s got some sorted for me, I’m sure he could find some for you if you asked.

Seriously capable skis! Love to run edge to edge at full throttle and never a hint of chatter.

    Not in my experience.
Pop the seals off and fill with marine grease before refitting is the best solution I’ve found.
Either that or buy an Orange Five and just change ’em regularly as they only cost pennies.

When I visited Roger (Wheelpro) Musson a while back, he confessed to using a homemade one most of the time, on the basis that it gave better audible feedback, i.e it made a better “string instrument”.

The 2.0 Perkins oil burner that was in my old Montego estate.

Somebody liked it enough to nick the car for its engine to be transplanted into a taxi. (The car itself was never seen again)

Lowey, 3 months is about right to open it up and take a look. After that it may well stay up for months but won’t be giving much/any protection for when you pinch, pierce or tear.
