I’d just like something that will protect my son’s newly-planted courgettes, tomatoes, beans, strawberries and cucumbers when they appear in a couple of months’ time. And stop the little sods nibbling all the plums off our tree

Maybe you need to start feeding the squirrels ;-) I feed ours peanuts – they come to the back door begging – but the only veg they’ve ever been interested in is a few leaves off the Brussel sprouts. They don’t seem to touch strawberries, raspberries, courgettes, onions etc.

We had a slight incline left to right so the stilts saved having to level completely. We bought them from tuin. They come in two different heights, both adjustable but different ranges.

I’m a bit hazy on the timings for the base, I think we probably took a day to make the frame and another day putting down the slabs and levelling it up.

We have a Tuin Lukas – used as a workshop and shed but not reason why you couldn’t kit it out as an office. We insulated the floor and roof

As oldtennisshoes says, having to arrange an arrival time is a faff I’d prefer to avoid. As long as there’s instructions that mention where the rubbish needs to go, heating,Wi-Fi codes, any other specific instructions and contact details there’s no need to have someone meet me in person.

and a personal meet and greet any time of day.

As a guest, I’d consider this a negative

Sleeping with a native speaker is by far the best route.

It’s not worked for me, 13 years and counting :-)

Currently doing a mix of duolingo and watching the Killing. Don’t think i’ll ever master the pronunciation

Our raised beds were made from gravel boards and are now 7 years old. Some have been repositioned and rejigged since but i think they’ve still got a few years in them yet. The advice when we first built them was everything rots so might as well get something cheap. We weren’t too worried about aesthetics at the time as we knew we’d likely be repositioning in a couple of years. They’ve lasted better than expected.

    And today

The tulips will come out soon and the bulbs stored until the autumn, to make room for something else

Im learning Danish right now so there’s a whole heap of words I cannot pronounce. It’s more that I can’t physically make the right sounds than the lack of knowing how to pronounce them!

Doesn’t quite seem fair when most others in the company are furloughed so getting 80% salary and don’t have to work. Whereas I get 80% salary but still have to work four days a week.

Wait until you find out the people who are furloughed get the bank holidays as additional annual leave as they aren’t able to ‘take’ them when on furlough

In Norway all the toll stations have a sign saying there’s a toll station coming, info about the price, a camera and phone number you can call

In my experience, the toll signs in Norway are no more/less informative than the ones for the congestion zone/LEZ

After a ferry cancellation we ended up having to drive a totally different route to the one we had planned and I was busy googling how/what you had to pay as there was no info other than a sign that indicated there was a toll

We had a click and collect order from Tesco today, pretty much everything included that we’d ordered apart from some bread and toilet roll. We have 2 rolls left.

I’m in an interesting position as I’m a contractor until 31st. Then technically unemployed. Then I start doing the same role as a permanent employee on 6th April. I’ve been told that nothing changes there, so as of that day I’ll be getting the 80% of the new job’s salarY, pro-rats obvs.

I thought it was 80% of salary based on February 2020 earnings?

I use premier seeds direct. Mainly because their postage is much more reasonable than a lot of other places if you’re only ordering a few bits.

Does anyone know if those greenhouses which have a plastic cover rather than panes are any good?

We’ve survived with just using one of those the past few years. Despite being screwed to the wall, it was destroyed in the storms earlier this year though so thinking about what to do replacement wise. Tomatoes are the only things we keep in it all summer, but it’s useful to have the space to move things there from indoors before going outside.

Are you going to stain/paint it?

Choosing the colour was the hardest part of the process when we built our log cabin :-)

Beans, mangetout, tomatoes, chillis, sweetcorn, aubergine, courgette, squash and cucumber all started off indoors. Potatoes are chitting, sowed radish and beetroot under fleece in one of the raised beds yesterday. Will also do onions and carrots but not sowing those just yet. We had a frost last night.

Also attempting to grow luffa/loofah this year

I’d expect a band A to be a small terrace or a flat or maisonette?

It entirely depends on the value at the time bandings were done, our 3 bed semi detached is band A

Went to Asda last night after work, being gluten free I thought I would be safe from the panic buying madness (who would eat this stuff if they didn’t have to?) I was wrong.

The free from aisle was the best stocked aisle in my local Tesco today, I succumbed to panic buying and bought 2 boxes of gf oatcakes instead of 1!

The difficult bit can be if you are sent home but not yet officially redundant. We had 3 weeks between being sent home and actually being formally made redundant. So there was nothing we could do in those 3 weeks

If it helps, the insolvency service were quite efficient at paying claims for loss of notice, unpaid wages and unused holiday when the company I worked for was made insolvent (i hadn’t been there long enough to claim for redundancy)

She’s finishing her PhD in Geography (GIS/remote sensing) but would likely be unwilling to work for an oil company.

I imagine that might limit her opportunities somewhat in Aberdeen. I often see GIS jobs advertised there, pretty much all of them are oil and gas related

Point of order. If there is a choice of grammar school or other school the other school is NOT a comprehensive. A comprehensive takes ALL pupils in the catchment area

Where i grew up there was a choice between comprehensive and grammar because we were on the border of two counties with different systems. One county had only comprehensive schools, the neighbouring county had grammar schools and secondary moderns.
