Don’t just set out to learn how to code – find a problem that you need to solve by using code/software

This is the approach that works for me, but it probably also depends what your goal is. I just wanted to be able to tinker a bit more in python in my job. I enjoy advent of code for puzzles

Those figures say absolutely nothing about where people caught the virus. That the most common place people had been in the past 7 days was a supermarket is hardly a shocker is it?

Is there a number for asymptomatic case’s in under 21s?

My bet, if 1/3 of the population get next to no symptoms, and can unknowingly be a super spreader, lf what wr are told is true. I wouldn’t be surprised if it was 3/4 of umder 21s who contract, carry and distribute the virus with virtually no symptoms

I’m sure there must be some data, a lot of the universities carried out mass testing, it’s why Nottingham managed to go from average to top of the country in about a week in September

There is always the risk the option to strengthen guidance or tightened distance travelled up been ditched short term as the PM doesn’t want to be told he’s been a bad Boris

He could just have made the limit 7.5 miles to avoid that…

Tempted myself, but a bit over my budget.

The decision is out of your hands, not available for delivery and not available in any of their stores.

We built a Tuin Lukas a few years ago, all very straightforward

Forgetting of course that the plastic top has been pushed on manually with the hand of the barista, which they then put to their mouth, who may have a glove on or may not, who may have corona, or may not.

If that’s where the risk comes from then it’s takeaway coffees that need to be restricted.

It seems to have resolved itself now (i think my phone has had an update) but for a time I couldn’t get STW to load a thread on my phone at all – didn’t matter if it was Opera Mini, Chrome or Samsung Internet

There is very little talent to crocheting soft toys from a pattern, you basically need to know one stitch and be able to count!

Creating patterns is probably where the skill lies. I’ve only ever made one thing without a pattern, but I prefer not having to think too much, it’s my whilst watching tv activity (I’m incapable of just sitting and watching t.v. without doing something else as well these days). The Pterodactyl was made whilst binge watching Ozark.

Sale wise there are all sorts of hoops to jump through to be able to legally sell plus if you cost the time they take they’d be extortionate. At the moment I just make as gifts.

I have this option, connects via wi-fi, no bluetooth. But reading around suggests iOS update killed that option for apple devices

Why is Spotify involved? Can’t you just choose “on this mobile device” ?

Edit: looks like on this mobile device no longer available for Apple products

Whenever this question crops up its always worth reminding people that modern phones are virtually “all screen” so not actually that much bigger than an old compact phone with a big bezel.

Each time I’ve needed a new phone I’ve ended up having to get something that’s ‘not that much bigger’. End result is my current phone is 4cm longer and a cm wider than the smartphone i had 3 phones ago, and it looks like I can’t even get something that ‘small’ now. I have small hands, i can’t comfortably hold a bigger phone, I don’t care if it’s nearly all screen and no bezel if I can’t actually hold the thing

My Samsung A3 2017 has a knackered battery (luckily don’t go out much at the moment!) and is regularly out of space (COVID seems to have required a lot of new apps to make various bookings) but at the moment there’s just nothing to replace it that’s small enough. The S10e mentioned up thread is bigger. Articles that recommend the best compact phones just seem to have redefined compact so they have something to list!

Perhaps not relevant if only for terrestrial but apps on our sony are woeful. We’ve ended up using a streaming stick (roku) instead.

I had a very nice HP Z book with an Intel xeon processor in a previous role, colleagues used to run Revit from them no issues. I’ve never used a Mac so can’t comment on how they compare.

Salary discussion is a bit meaningless when no 2 organisations agree what a ‘senior dev’ is

Very true, I’ve separately held positions titled software engineer and senior dev and I don’t consider myself either (I’m not a programmer)

My job is more akin to the sticking bits of Lego together that someone mentioned earlier.

Well, it’s working again, for how long who knows?

The very technical fix involved taking the back and top off and squeezing all the connectors. Nothing obviously loose but it seems to have done something as managed a wash again. Although equally could have just been sorted from being unplugged for 24 hours…

Based on information I’ve provided to an appliance repair company they’ve advised it’s likely an electronics issue and unlikely to be economically repairable.

I’m just trying to eliminate any other causes before sending it for scrap.

“we know if was a max rows issue, but not where in the data pipeline that appeared etc”

Twitter also suggests it was a max column issue, so each record was stored/sent as a column not a row!

From what I’ve read (tweets so could be a load of cobblers) the data is stored in a DB and it’s the export to PHE where excel is involved.

So need some decent ETL software – FME for the win :-)

Towel dry off well afterwards if you can’t shower straight away to avoid swimmer’s itch
