Is this in Scotland? Planning law varies quite a bit between England & Wales and Scotland

The new driveway/hardstanding would possibly need planning permission if not made to be permeable.

As a bit of context for why this is big news in the US, you need to understand how they see their national parks

Except it’s not a national park, it’s a state park.

It’s a pretty cool place though, the campsite there is one of my favourites.

[trivia]it’s the place where aaron ralston (guy who cut his arm off after being trapped by a rock) was meant to meet up with friends for a party and didn’t show up to[/trivia]

Quite agee – this is inside a Victorian water pumping station.

    Papplewick?

It’s not just show though is it, the pumps themselves are a work of art imo and astonishingly quiet.

They look like 30x30cm tiles so taking out the blanking plate would leave a 600mm space for a cupboard which is a fairly standard size. Built in dishwashers tend to be 600mm wide.

Employers have to provide a way to heat food so not sure how they can do a hot food ban

I’m not sure this is correct, they have to provide somewhere to eat but not sure they have to provide anything for heating food.

A lot of them have an athlete setting, use that and you lose quite a bit of bodyfat. Tells you something about how they work.

I actually think this would be a good idea. That is how it is here in Germany

The dutch privatised their mail service then had to buy back the address database at great cost.

Guess what we’ve included in the sale?

to be honest its very difficult and frustrating

See, I found plastering to be by far the most satisfying DIY job I did.

    Hated laying floor tiles though!

I plastered all my own rooms.

Started with one room with the idea that we’d give it a go and the worst that would happen is we’d waste a small amount of money on plaster.

Have now done 3 bedrooms and a kitchen. Probably not perfect to the trained eye but not ‘rustic’ either.

    b) she was badly ripped off by some electrians last and is not keen to go through that again

Photos here (not that you can really tell quality from photos

One of the main reasons we went the DIY route is the difficulty in getting reliable trades. I don’t mind not perfect when it’s my own not perfect, but hate paying for it. Still annoys me that the electrician didn’t put our spotlights in a straight line.

There’s a few in Nottingham. Don’t like them. Pedestrians don’t look both ways crossing them and car drivers glare/shout abuse as they don’t see the no-entry except for bikes signs.

This one has the added bonus of being hidden to buses as they turn into the street and cut the corner where the cycle lane is.

We’ve stayed here a couple of times

and there’s this place owned by same people next door

Not on the coast, but fits the small and quiet criteria. A couple of bars/restaurants within walking distance.

Ikea often have lengths of oak worktop in their bargain corner. Sometimes damaged ends/corners but far longer than you need so wouldn’t be an issue.

Yes, think it depends on the extraction. My wisdom teeth were extracted in hospital by a maxillo facial surgeon. The single molar removed by the dentist was far more painful.

I had all 4 out under local and no issues. Eating normally and back to work the next day.

isnt it the case that if something has been built and used for 5 years+ it gets deemed to have been consented anyway?

Unless the LA had put an enforcement order on, couldnt the previous owners have kept schtum..?
    that doesnt help I know..

The planning isn’t an issue as a certificate of lawfulness has been obtained. The lack of building regs is an issue, not in terms of the council taking any action as it’s out of time for that, but in terms of the quality of the work.

Don’t forget to consider the insulation to the floor as well

I think some of it must be some sort of innate fitness/ability.

I can swim 5k no problem, can’t run 5k though.

I’ve never had any problems with O2, even during the outages last year everybody else in the office was affected but mine was fine.

A couple of years back the police did a scheme where they stopped cyclists riding without lights and gave them the option to buy lights on the spot or pay the fixed penalty. Seemed like quite a good idea to me

I wouldn’t count on your landlord getting involved. We had environmental health involved but the landlord (who was also our landlord) wasn’t interested. Luckily we were renting so got to move instead.

Right handed, lid in left jar in right. Not sure that proves much as i use a tin opener the ‘wrong’ way.

I’ve also been told i tie shoe laces left handed but i’ve not yet discovered the difference :-S

Why faff about moving services if you don’t need to?

I personally don’t think it’s enough of a faff to rule out an Ikea kitchen alone. It cost us £90 to move the gas connection, it’s a tiny amount in the cost of a kitchen yet people seem to opt for more expensive kitchens on that reason alone. 600mm deep units versus the 500mm useable space in a standard kitchen base unit is also the benefit.

Lack of service void is not really an issue.

Either move services below plinth level or buy a deeper worktop and create your own service gap. We went with the former, I prefer to have the space inside cupboards where it’s useful rather than behind it.

Ikea is good value stuff but the sizes are unique

Well the depth varies, but height is adjustable and a 600mm unit is a 600mm unit wherever you get it from.

We found Ikea had a greater range of sizes across the whole range than others. Many other companies only do tall wall units in their more expensive ranges for example.

One of the main reasons we went with Ikea is the transparent pricing. None of this 60% off for this week only rubbish or places that won’t even publish their prices.

Quality is fine imo. We did have one door that was noticeably warped after a year but we just took it off and popped to ikea and swapped it there and then.

There are things to be aware of if you go for Ikea as they differ from standard kitchen units but nothing that has to cause a problem. And units take minutes to build once you’ve done a few.

i’m 6″ shorter than hubby but have the same leg length

Similar here, although my legs are actually longer, generally can’t reach the handlebars whilst sitting on the seat on his bikes though!

The line pedalled is that women generally have longer legs proportionally to their torsos, they then make womens specific bikes with lower stand over which doesn’t follow logically at all.

I was looking at hybrids recently and compared the geometry between the crosstrail and the ariel and the small was virtually identical for both bikes and the componentry was pretty much the same as well. No shorter cranks, or narrower bars. Same width bars across the whole size range irrespective of whether male or female version (660mm).

Women are generally smaller. That’s it, basically.

Which is why I find it bizarre that a men’s small and a womens’s small are basically the same size.

The biggest suckers are the guys paying £30k for a degree now

A lot will pay back less than those still paying back under older systems. Mine should be payed off a few months before I retire. Although I based my calculations on getting a payrise each year = ha!

Surely a cycle to work day should be during Bike week?

Seems odd to have two separate events.

Round here someone slashed the tyres of every car parked partly on the pavement in a few different locations (about 40 cars total). They all still park partly on the pavement.
