We managed to buy a house without the EA seeing anything. In fact we exchanged without the solicitor seeing proof that we’d actually got the full 20% deposit.

No OH did not vote the same as me but only because as a non-UK EU citizens he had no vote.

Have incurred extra expense in telephone calls, internet searches, toll roads, additional ferries to rebook new route home etc.

It’s probably not enough extra to be worth claiming on travel insurance due to the excess but thought that the ferry company may owe something when cancelling a 17 hour ferry journey with less than a week’s notice.

Luckily Norway’s mobile network is fantastic so I got a text message whilst camping in the middle of a national park watching musk ox. So at least we knew asap.

Thanks, that seems to confirm everything I’ve read. That compensation is due for delays but not complete cancellations. They only have to offer full reimbursement or re-routing.

As I understand it, the regulations apply to travel to or from the EU. Hirtshals is in Denmark which is in the EU.

The redways were never designed as cycle routes, which is why they’re rubbish. It was an after thought to allow cycling.

But products you don’t use should be banned because you don’t trust other people to think like you?

No, I’m not calling for a ban on anything, just pointing out that it’s very easy to call for a ban on something you don’t personally find useful. As others here have done.

No, I see my waste footprint as a collective total and using pods which I recycle is acceptable to me.

Others probably make compromises I wouldn’t, perhaps they use tampons or panty liners because the convenience is worth it to them. It doesn’t make them despicable people. Just someone who’s made different choices.

    Kettle? Cafetière? Sorted.

Doesn’t produce anything remotely like an espresso

More necessary to me than those things, yes. My weekday lodgings are away from home. I don’t have a stove so a stove top coffee maker is no use to me. Nespresso suits perfectly.

But there’s lots of packaging for foods that you could avoid if you made your own, ready meals for a start. Why single out coffee pods?

For easy wins I’d ban ready meals, foil wrapped energy gels and beer cans because I believe none of these things to be necessary ;-)

I don’t understand why some people get so incensed about nespresso pods which are recyclable. They don’t seem nearly so bothered about coke/beer cans.

I have a pixie and a krups, both with separate aerocinnos. Nothing much to choose between the two other than looks. Both worked out less than 10 quid due to the 75 quid of credit to spend on coffee.

although at times I did feel like my hips and/or legs were waggling about a bit rather than staying in a straightish line.

Need to work on core stability then

I still use my 5 year old compact over my smartphone in many situations.

It can zoom, take 500 photos on one charge, adjust shutter and aperture settings, mount on a mini tripod etc etc.

Yes, currently on week 3 out of 6 of my 3 pounds off when spend 30 pounds.
Previous to that I’ve had 4 pounds off when you spend 40 for months.

Our un-extended house has different ceiling heights due to the use of different depth joists.

Block walls built on top of floorboards.

A single window which is partly in the pantry and partly in the kitchen.

Windows and doors built right into the corner of rooms, so no room for a proper doorframe.

Main electric fuse for next door in our house, annoying when it starts to spark and need to call out the electricity board.

    Qualifications or training?

Specific software training is likely to be more useful than a generic GIS qualification.

I think you’ll be glad to be anywhere after the first leg of your journey, hot or not. I90 and I70 are the most boring roads I’ve ever driven on.

We camped at the Devils Garden campground in Arches NP, but that was in May prior to memorial day.

First two weeks in August will be a lot busier than the latter, as schools started to go back mid August

To add to the above, swimming ability has an impact too. Different suits have different buoyancy distribution, e.g beginner suits often have more buoyancy in the legs than wetsuits aimed at more experienced swimmers.

Parents insurance company refused to pay up for a similarly ridiculous amount of car hire in that sort of incident (cosmetic damage that would only take a day to fix)

Think my entire English class was put off any sort of caving after reading an account of someone who got trapped head first down a passage and all attempts at rescue failed and eventually he ran out of air.

In a similar situation (although disputing the damage was caused whilst in my care) I asked for photos of the damage, invoice for the repair and photos to show the damage had been repaired. Never heard from them again.

I had excess insurance, but that’s not the point!

As others have said, prices range massively but you can make big savings if you’re prepared to DIY some of it.

    We went from this

to this (Supporting wall down/kitchen units/worktops/appliances/french windows/flooring/move gas supply/new electrics)

    for under £5,000

The highstreet quote we had for supply of cabinets only was £6,500 (and that was their ‘40%’ discount price)

The only thing growing here is the rhubarb, which grows like a weed – both in the spot I transplanted it to and the place I transplanted it from and in the compost patch.

What’s good veg wise the grow in tubs?

I’ve done courgettes in hanging baskets before, works quite well and keeps the slugs away too.

    What age is the house?

Our 50s house had original tiles on the floor. Peeled away fine once some heat applied. The material isn’t getting broken up so no real risk even if they did contain asbestos.

Pleased with our ikea kitchen, been in 4 years now. The one thing I’d say about the move to Method is they no longer do 50cm cabinets which can limit layout options depending on room sizing.

When we changed rentals, our previous letting agency wanted to charge us for providing a reference to the new letting agency, who we had already paid ‘reference fees’

Had to get a cheque reissued in one name only in a similar situation. Bank advised it may be easier to just open a joint account :-)

I was however able to persuade the bank to pay in a cheque made out to Mr E Ebygomm despite the fact I’m female.
