Have you checked and made sure your address is showing on the Royal Mail site? Often addresses of new build houses remain on the not yet built file and aren’t available depending what PAF data a company is using.

We’ve got a couple of Eno Doublenests that are mainly used for camping but get set up in the garden from time to time too

Wow, I particularly like this… not far out of town it seems..

    Yep, only 4,000 km away

Our neighbours have a building in their back garden that makes footflaps building look undersized so our cabin is nothing in comparison!

Depends on the age of the conversion.

We flew to Denmark earlier in the year with BA and it was cheaper to get flights with 23kg luggage allownce plus car hire than just buying hand luggage only flights

    Flights + luggage + car hire £200
    Flights only £290

The rooms we were knocking through had different ceiling heights so it made “should we have a flush beam” decision easy!

You can save a lot of money doing the work yourself.

We paid £100 pounds for a builder to come in and install the beam, then knocked down the wall and disposed ourselves (we were doing other DIY work so had a skip), I arranged the building control sign off (£150ish 5 years ago) and bought the beam (£100) and we did the fire protection and made good.

We didn’t require any calcs, building control came round before we started work and confirmed that they wouldn’t require calcs if we installed a beam of a X size with Y size bearers.

We had quotes for £1500 for the same work all in.

I don’t know as I’d want to give up my “smart” phone, but I’d cheerfully swap it for something, well, phone-sized. This arms race for ever bigger “phablet” devices makes my shit itc

I’ve seen enough people say this now that I can’t believe there’s not a market for it. My current phone is on its last legs and it’s the absolute max size I’d want (and larger than I’d ideally want) but there’s nothing about that’s small enough. I had a HTC Hd Mini previously which was a perfect size.

I’d have thought a fire vent would be at the bottom of the wall? There’s little point in siphoning away carbon monoxide when it reaches a height of eight feet.

Surely the purpose of the vent is to ensure there is enough fresh air in the room to allow complete combustion and prevent carbon monoxide in the first place? Not to let the carbon monoxide out once it has formed.

All ours are about a foot below ceiling level.

No communication about it at all where I work. I’m employed via an umbrella so should be ok but would like it confirmed.

We have some similar photos. 5 years on and still not quite finished the kitchen, not even started on some of the other bits, although we did manage to mostly do a bathroom.

The city council who run the “secure” Citycard Cycle Hubs won’t tell me if there was a break in or someone accessed with a key and then cut locks (questions both the police and insurance have asked) – useless!

My US driving test consisted of checking I could drive forward, reverse and stop. A rental business that only requires a standard US licence will accept a UK licence

if you’re 40+, you’re probably the right side of the pulled-up drawbridge.
if you’re 30-, you’re buggered, you’ll be renting till you die (unless you have helpful parents)

Agree with this, I’m 36 and amongst friends it depends on whether life circumstances (e.g. met partner) were right round about 2001

How long has the conversion been there? If it’s a reasonable amount of time an indemnity is pointless anyway as the council won’t have any powers to enforce (not that that stops solicitors pushing indemnity policies)

Absolute size is not necessarily as important as where the intrusions/wheel arches are etc.

I have a small estate (Toyota Auris) but can get my bike in wheels off without moving the seats.

And although we’ll be camping most of the time, we’ll probably treat ourselves to a hotel one night so any recommendations on that front also appreciated.

Peyto lake was the furthest up the icefields parkway that I got, it was part of a much bigger trip and only had 3 days between Vancouver and Calgary. Other half hasn’t seen any of it. We’re going right at the end of May/June so aware that plans may depend on what the winter has been like.

Last trip was out of Seattle, round to Olympic peninsula – Vancouver Island (Victoria, Tofino etc) then back via San Juan Islands

We’ll be camping for the most part.

I’ve just looked up and that would be 2350 km total, excluding any side trips. Our last big trip was 1440 km in the same time, and that was about right so think I’ll have to rule out the Prince Rupert option.

We were on Vancouver Island a couple of years ago so weren’t originally planning on going back, but then I keep seeing this sort of itinery and it got me thinking

Also considering whether to drive route 3 across to Banff rather than trans canada highway.

Presuming this is England and Wales your land charges searches should reveal whether this was registered with building control under the relevant competent persons scheme – should be both a gas and electric for a boiler install.

Indemnity is a waste of time either way, it only protects against the virtually non existent risk of building control pursuing. It’s not going to help if it turns out to be dangerous.

Recent service means this wouldn’t bother me as major problems with installation would likely be picked up. I asked for a service in lieu of installation certificates when we were buying, in the end it was just the installer being slow and they ended up registering it with building control before the sale went through

We looked round a Dunster House today but wasn’t overly impressed. Think we’ll end up going with a Tuin. Although we’ve been dithering about exactly what to get and what sort of base to do for many months now.

It’s certainly not the case in Scotland where I teach. When did this happen?

I chose my GCSE options around 22 years ago and think we were one of the first years where all 3 science subjects had to be studied, i.e. you could do Biology, Physics, Chemistry GCSEs or dual award which was still Biology, Physics and Chemistry but only made up 2 GCSEs. You couldn’t just do Biology and Chemistry and drop Physics

I used to work for a local authority, and all the staff had the same policy, no gifts allowed.

    It’s not an unusual policy.

If they’re employed by the council they probably shouldn’t be accepting tips.

Reluctantly accepted that the car is probably going to be written off and there is no ‘value’ in the fact that the car has had one owner from new, and the repair cost v. likely salvage cost isn’t going to make it economical to do it that way either.

Now should I go through the third party insurance or continue through insurance and pursuing additional losses. Costs for transferring a private plate or 9 months left on the insurance policy aren’t covered.

In my mind I should be put in the same position as I was before the accident, which is a car insured for a further 9 months.

Ridiculous that insurance companies want to drag this thing out for weeks and keep offering me a hire car when they could just pay for the bloody repairs!

Car is already showing as a category D write off despite no discussion let alone agreement!

In a case where the value of the car exceeds the cost of repair, why not just pay for the repair rather than writing it off, making a settlement and making you buy it back?
