OK there are more sexes than male /female. Not talking about trans here, biological sexes.

My biology degree must have skipped over that part…

DSD’s – disorders of sexual development != new biological sex

And intersex people have stated they object to being used as gotchas in any discussion about trans rights.

Presumably you think Sharron Davies, Martina Navratilova, Dame Laura Kenny, Tessa Sanderson are all bigots too? All female athletes who oppose biological males in competitive sport.

In the highly unlikely scenario that someone else joining in your parkrun has transitioned, or is transitioning… why do you want to stop them, and how will you police it?

    Indeed, who wants that job?

“Jeska, a trans woman, was convicted of the attempted murder of Ralph Knibbs, HR manager for UK Athletics after Knibbs investigated Jeska’s eligibility to compete as a woman.”

I guess the point is that as there are more “types” of gender than gender cats in sport, sport probably needs to catch up with reality

Sport is segregated on the basis of biological sex, nothing to do with gender. It’s biological sex that is the biggest predictor of sporting differences not gender so gender is irrelevant.

Trans women aren’t banned from competing, they are still free to compete in their biological sex category. That’s already inclusive.

Instead we have men rushing to signal their lack of prejudice and bigotry by handing over women’s rights to other men.

And yes, I’m quite happy for transmen to compete in female events, providing they are subject to the same doping rules as the rest of the field.

Not at all surprising to see another male dominated site throw women under the bus.

However, if you are happy that your dirty bathwater is eventually going in to a river or watercourse somewhere downstream from your house then why not just have your new water butt collect this dirty water for use on your own garden?

It’ll be combined sewerage so rather all the surface water is going into the sewerage system. We have the same setup, it’s a pain to try and get anything to look tidy as connectors for waste pipes and downpipes don’t seem easily available (presumably to stop people putting their waste water into surface water but not helpful when you have combined sewerage)

Concerning Chicago, the fact that they raised whole blocks of buildings a metre or two to help with installing sewerage and drainage. And this was over 150 years ago.

In fact, a lot of these huge engineering operations they did before computers just baffles me.

Do me a favour. go to the intersex wikipedia page

Can you explain what intersex has to do with a decision that impacts trans athletes?

    Gorgeous 🥰

Alarm is being set tonight for a 3am toilet outing, it’s light at 4:30am and that CLEARLY means it’s time for the day to begin!

Ada came home at a similar time of year and we all got more sleep if she had a 3am wakeup as she’d easily go back to sleep, if she slept through until 4:30/5am she’d decide to be up and awake just long enough for me to be properly awake (20 mins or so) then start on the first nap of the day

I normally find they never gave big enough drink vessels. Surely all houses should have at least one pint glass!

Yep, on one holiday we took a trip to Ikea to get some glasses that held more than 150ml

There are options to not tie yourself into a contract and pay month my month. I was a member for a few months this way when working right by one of their clubs. I only used it for the swimming, pretty much guaranteed a lane to myself whatever time I went. My only minor grumble was the outside pool didn’t have a pace clock.

Doing all the usual stuff this year.

Onions, garlic, spinach, beetroot, french beans, mangetout, courgettes, new potatoes, tomatoes, chillis.

Fruit wise I’ve got rhubarb, strawberries, redcurrants, gooseberries and raspberries and then blackberries trying to take over everything. Not found any sign of the loganberry I put in last year.

I’m a bit behind where I usually am, courgettes still to go in the ground, and I still have half my early seed potatoes to find a space for. Have already harvested some mangetout which seemed to have survived the winter in a pot by the house and then flowered in the warm weather in spring.

We feed Millie’s Wolfheart, mixed with a bit of wet food, liver pate, sweet potato, egg, sardines etc. depending on day of the week. She’s not hugely enthusiastic about food (must be faulty considering she’s a lab) especially straight out the bowl but she looks in good condition on it so we’re sticking with it for now.

Ha ha, shortly after this she stopped eating it completely, even when mixed with good stuff. I tried being strict for a while, offering it and if it got left it was thrown away but she lost a kg in a few weeks and I’m too soft so didn’t like the thought that she was only eating what she did under sufferance because she was starving. She’s now on Essentials Superior Living Working dog food. She doesn’t dance around excitedly for it but she does eat it all so progress.

I think it’s going to vary quite significantly for different individuals, I’d rather swim 5k than run 5k!

When did the requirement for a pre travel Covid test get dropped?

We travelled with Stena a couple of weeks ago. COVID passports were the only requirement but these weren’t checked at any stage.

I got a nice stamp in my passport – only positive of Brexit!

We’re in Denmark at the moment. Our vet charged 160ish for the AHC, then we had to pay for the rabies vaccine on top.

On our way home tomorrow and have been to the vet for tapeworm treatment this morning, it’s the first time the vet had seen an AHC.

Definitely try ear plugs. I get dizzy if I swim in coldish water without them.

The freight services stopped accepting non-freight passengers at the same time as they stopped the Harwich Esbjerg ferry.

We’ve done the drive from Rotterdam/Hook of Holland to Denmark many times, generally takes us 10 hours including stopping times. It’s an easy journey for the most part although there seems to have been roadworks and delays round Hamburg for the last decade.

If going to Copenhagen then taking the ferry at Puttgarden and having that as one of your ‘stops’ is a nice timesaver.

We’ve been all the way up to Bergen with stops in Denmark in both directions in 16 days. Although we opted for the overnight ferry into Oslo from Copenhagen.

We had a semi flexible ticket for Hull to Rotterdam, so managed to cancel and get most of it refunded. Booked with Stena from Harwich instead. Travelling with the dog and already have an 8 hour drive the other side so alternatives are limited. We were in two minds whether to wait and see but would have lost more if cancelling later and seeing as they seem to only be confirming cancellations on the day I’m really glad we took the hit now.

We’re travelling to Denmark via Germany and the Netherlands next month. I’m expecting to require proof of vaccination and a negative lft to get into the Netherlands unless current guidance changes.

Although I’ve just seen this on DFDS site which suggests no test required from 23rd March?

We only considered pups with parents who’d had the five common DNA tests for the breed (lab). Autosomal recessive diseases mean just looking at parents is not enough as two carriers could produce affected pups. No good reason for breeders not to have the tests imo.

We also got a working breed so complete opposite of advice upthread :-)
