Actually, it looks like this[/url] has what I need and is 1/3rd the price!

Yeah, it’s the cone shaped bit – it’s included in the propack so looks like I’ll need to fork out for that. Cheers!

Check that my passport is still definitely in the bag and I hadn’t imagined it being there a few minutes earlier.

+1 – pretty much every half hour until I actually board the plane!

Also, locking the front door then having to go back and check it’s locked ‘just in case’, even though it’s never once been left unlocked.

Maybe davidtaylorforth has a new login? His efforts under his current one have got a tad obvious of late :D

Nope. It’s exactly the same number.

Um no it’s not? If you’ve got 5 cars parked on the road, one of which is blocking someone’s drive, when the owner returns you’ll have 6 cars parked on the road rather than 5 on the road and one on the drive.

Just that dropped kerbs that aren’t in use are fair game

And who decides they aren’t in use? Fair enough if you’ve spoken to the owner and they’ve said they don’t use the drive, but in the OP’s case I’d hardly say it’s fair game, stuff on the drive would suggest access is needed. In their case it seems like whoever parked in front of it is a bit of a prick.

Question about Blade Runner, do you have to have seen the first one to get it?

We hadn’t seen the first one and it was film of the year for me.

It’s a bloody bastard to ride up though, I just use it as a push-up!

I’d go for the VB weatherproof route (#5), though with the caveat that there was a LOT of ice around on Saturday at Ladybower so there’s a decent chance that the top of Jacob’s ladder might still be icey tomorrow. Worth having a look at keeper of the peak on twitter for updates on conditions!

    Well played sir :D

That tweet Pook posted was mine, it was slippy as **** today. Given how much snow there was up Hope cross last week I’d guess that’ll now all be hardpack and ice as well so I’d probably give it a miss tomorrow tbh. Rode up to the top of the reservoirs after bailing out and even that was sketchy towards the end. Forecast rain might melt it all away though, but could also turn it into a skating rink!

Empirical evidence would suggest any BSO (the cheaper the better)

Or stolen* ones, preferably ridden the wrong way down the road.

F1 is that good I nearly bought a steering wheel for£200 the other day. Still might!

Yeah, downloaded the demo the other day thinking “wonder if this is any good?”, now find myself a few quid lighter having purchased a wheel and a stand to use it on  . In my defence, I get pain in my hand/wrist from using the triggers to accelerate in driving games for too long, so really it’s a medical necessity

I went for Dirt Rally, had a quick go and I’m really bad at it.

I got banned from playing it by the missus as it made me so grumpy from getting almost to the end of a stage a second or two up and then binning it into the trees for the Nth time at the last minute.

Out on the bike on Saturday and realized I’d forgotten to take the chicken out the freezer for dinner. Was all layered up with thick gloves and couldn’t be bothered taking them off, so just shouted ‘ok google’ at my phone and asked it to tell the missus to take it out. Not quite amazing, but made me giggle about living in the future – I’m impressed with how google handles voice recognition even with my Scots accent and tendency to mumble, usually manages to understand what I’m saying 1st go!

I used to be oblivious to the cold but now I’m pushing the wrong side of 30 it’s a different story.

Me too, I used to run hot all the time but now I’m 37 I feel the cold more. Does mean I’m not quite so sweaty in the summer though!

If you’re happy with the reds/blues at BPW you’ll be fine at GT, even the black is just long rather than particularly challenging. Full suss would probably be better, but if you do the red it’s one big up followed by one big down, so you can just drop the saddle on the HT at the top.

No idea on the weather, I’m not psychic

Maybe flip it round and say that you’ve never found yourself in that situation and that you think that’s because you approach interpersonal relationships in a certain way, e.g. open communication?

Can always follow with what you think you’d do if a conflict situation ever arose…

Depends when the conference ends and what route you’ll be taking to Edinburgh! If it’s close to 5 and you’re going M61-M6 you probably want to leave the car somewhere in N/W Manchester so you can get onto the M61 easily without having to go round the M60 (or go on it as little as possible) as it’ll be nose to tail. Somewhere on the Bury or Eccles Metrolink line might be a good shout.

If it’s finishing before 4 then driving from city centre is probably easiest. The central car parks are all very expensive, but you can leave it at Store St (near Piccadilly station) car park for less than a tenner all day, though you’ll need to get there relatively early if you want a space!

It was £70 for 4 weeks on the tram when i was still getting them (~2/3 years ago) from Prestwich to city centre, so probably more now and even more if further out. Still, it meant I could justify getting a nice shiny commuting bike!

    ebennett

The trams are rubbish IMO, though I’m in NW Manchester and I’m guessing you’d be coming in on the Oldham/rochdale line. Even getting on it just after 7 am it’s absolutely mobbed, so much so that some people have to wait for another one. They’re generally every 6-12 minutes so not too bad on that front, but it’s quicker by about 10 mins for me to cycle to work. They’re also frequently disrupted and mobbed on the way home too.

So far 3/3 for Helly Hansen wearers being Scottish :D

I guess we know a thing or two about how to stay warm!

Helly Hansen baselayers are for posh middle aged skiers from the south east of england.

One out of four (well, I’m 37) ain’t bad

(Serious answer – a really warm baselayer)

Actually, this – can never have too many Helly Hansens! Often find myself wearing the same one multiple days when i’m away, which can get a bit pungent…

Snowboarding is expensive so probably not a lot you could get for that price. Possibly a board lock would be a good idea – I always mean to buy one but always forget!

I’ve got a version of this which is pretty useful if you do your own servicing.

Briskers for down to zero. Below that I have a very old pair of altura ‘proper’ winter gloves

Same combo for me, and I’d second legend’s point that the thick Alturas are a bit rubbish to wear for proper off-road stuff, they mostly get used for commuting. I find the Briskers really good and I’ve got pretty crap circulation.

If it’s your work and it’s not been paid for, presumably he has no right to ‘sell’ this on to his client? Might be worth letting them know that he hasn’t been paying his bills and they might be liable for a copyright claim. However, I’ve got no experience in this area whatsoever…

Per Tracey’s suggestion this can be had for £2.9k and this for £3.5k. If I had the money lying around I’d be sorely tempted by the Pro with Eagle…

Edit – as long as I had some more cash to get the gopping paint job redone!

How does/can the Fernox stuff handle leaks at the actual connections? Got our rads off just now for some plastering (which is fun in November :| ) and, as I took them off and will be putting them back on myself, I’m a bit paranoid that stuff is going to leak. Got plumbers tape and whatnot, just wondering if it might be worth chucking some off this in along with the inhibitor when I re-fill the system

When do you use the lamp?

Oct-March, I do 5 mins with my face pushed right up against it once I get to work (which makes me look daft) then have it on about 30-50 cm from me for a few hours during the week as I’m at a desk all day anyway. At the weekend I just do the 5 mins after I’ve had breakfast.

    ebennett

Also, I’d say the lamp probably has more effect than the pills. Again, might all be in my head :D

Boots 10 mcg once daily combined with a SAD lamp – seems to help, could be psychological though! Don’t seem to get as many of the days where I come home from work and just slump on the sofa unable/unwilling to do anything more than order a takeaway though.

EDIT – Just the winter (Oct-March) for the SAD lamp, sometimes take the tablets other times whenever it’s a bit dull or I’ve been cooped up inside for a while.

The east part of that loop should be fine but the Hope/Edale side is a bit shit IMO – you have to slog up the broken road to Rushup Edge and Chapel gate, which aint worth the effort. The climb to Rushup will likely be wet, muddy, and rutty, and Rushup itself is a bit meh. Chapel gate is a waste of a descent, absolutely nothing interesting on it. If using that route I’d go straight on to Hope Cross at the point where it turns to go down the Roman road, then you could do some loops taking in Spud alley, Beast, and Hagg farm if you want to extend.

Oh, and keep an eye on koftheP on Twitter – should be useful for condition updates.

Bout 5% – NW Manchester. Only really do it when I’m pushed for time or feeling a bit tired, it’s an ok ride but it’s massive overkill having a 160 full sus on it! Good justification for n+1 I suppose, but haven’t worked up to it yet as there’s no space for another bike in the house and the shed is flimsy as a flimsy thing. That new Cotic Bfe does look very nice though…

His wife has a 2 year contract Stealth so probably that long – thanks for the offer. Who is best to speak to about this sort of stuff IRL – would it be an accountant? The company is essentially saying he needs to figure it out himself, but it would be nice if we could at least advise him who to speak to!
