Thanks for all the replies. So yeah roof- done. Walls – I think it’s just shiny bubble wrap. Did this used to get used rather than wool? Had a crawl under the floor today. Can get under every room except one half of the kitchen/living room. Probably no point in doing half the room is there?

Hm interested. So the rear wheel doesn’t need a re-dish with that adapter?

    Leslie bike shop??

Yes, Jones bikes are fantastic ATBs. Unfortunately a bit too pricey. Stooge also fantastic ATBs.

@Ampthill sounds good. Surly bridge club is the winner out of those bikes for me.

I prefer a more upright position and I’m leaning towards a set of bars with a big sweep. This is probably because I’ve not had much time with drop bars so never really got used to them. I also think I’d prefer 27.5 plus, if I’m to use this bike for all day rides over various paths and tracks the extra comfort sounds good. I’m not going to be using this bike to break any Strava records that’s for sure.

Schwalbe g-ones. Your bike Sounds like an ATB ;)

MTBs aren’t great on road. Theyre really only good off road. Where as an ATB as described in the article on bikepacking.com can be used comfortably on road as well as off. So ATB isn’t really a great description for most MTBs.

Yeah, it did but was quickly forgotten about, which is a shame really.

I’ve read a lot of good things about the Ramin but never tried one. Have you considered 2.8″ schwalbe g-one allrounds? They’re a great ATB tyre in my opinion.

Kinesis maxlightnis a great fork I use it in my Stooge MK3. And about the right price as well. Boost, 490mm, 55mm rake. Swinnerton cycles £323

I ride my stooge MK3 with a 3.8″ up front and 3″ in the rear for all my riding. I’m no Joe Barnes, but it’s not really my intention. I truly believe the majority of weekend warriors only need a rigid fat or plus bike for the majority of the riding they do but unfortunately fall for the marketing of long, low, slack and lots of travel. Its probably the same for a lot of gravel riders, They’d probably all be more comfortable and have more fun on a rigid plus or fat bike bike in my view. Each to there own…

I had a fluid mechanics lecturer in University who was very respected in the aero dynamic world. McLaren F1 team offered him a contract but he refused it, which I think he regretted. He kept the contract on the wall in class.
He asked us why we though cars weren’t more aerodynamic especially compared to the 1950s. The sloped backs created a lot less drag and would make a massive difference in fuel efficiency… He believed the oil and gas industry had a huge influence on the decisions made to make cars less efficient.

TL means tubeless. TLE means tubeless easy. So if your tyre says TLE it is tubeless. Fit and enjoy.☺️

KS eten and I think KS Lev both do 120mm drop. That’s the most I’ve found.

I did it to my stooge mk3. 8mm hole if I remember correctly and a rubber grommet. No real need to ovalise the hole.

Has anybody broken a mountain bike specific carbon fork? I hear lots of people taking sharp intakes of breath, but is that because older generations of carbon road forks were poor?

I have Kinesis maxlight. 490mm a to c and 55mm off set. I think it’s great but it has internal brake routing, might not appeal to some.

@guitarhero Kinesis maxlight fork, has the same 55mm offset. I have a 27.5 X 3.8 minion fbf up front and a 27.5 X 3.0 high roller on rear. Works well. The high roller has a pretty tall profile.

I’ve got a MK3. Running it with a carbon fork and fat front just now. Love it!

Thanks for the feedback everyone, after a bit more research I went ahead and bought the fbf and fitted it to 50mm rim. Glad I did to be honest, haven’t really noticed the bounce and lack of dampening that was mentioned. Perhaps due to lower profile on 27.5 X 3.8 compared to a more conventional 26″ fat tyre. Much faster and more responsive than I was expecting to be honest.

    Cheers ☺️

Thanks Richard. I had read on other forums 50mm worked ok. Have you tried the fbr? Any idea how it would fair as a front tyre? A little bit lighter and less rolling resistance than fbf I think.

A 3″ tyre has less rolling resistance in rough terrain than say a 2.3″ tyre. So makes sense to me. Especially if you have the PSI sufficiently low enough (not too low mind) and rims wide enough. I thought a 3.8 tyre would also be fairly decent if the PSI is right, hence why I was asking.

@trimix thanks for the feed back. What bike did you use a semi fat tyre on? Just out of interest.

@trimix thanks for responding. what makes you say that? Have you run an fbf before? Why would it feel like that?

    @rOcKeTdOg
thanks for response. Yeah it took me a bit of playing to get pressures right with 3.0 tyres, but sorted now. I will definitely experiment with fbf if I decide to try it.

I have a set on my stooge mk3. Was a bit apprehensive before buying them but I am really pleased I have them now I’ve used them for a few weeks. Very light and precise steering and cope really well with all my local single track and trails (including small drop offs and jumps). I’m running a 27.5 x 3″ tyre with mine.
