How gnarly are the stages as not ridden this one before? Bike wise its a choice of the 140mm trail bike or 160 enduro rig…….

I see oil has dropped to $100 a barrel today – would it be too much to expect fuel retailers to pass on the saving straight away?

Only ever had the loake 1880 uk made stuff and it’s lovely. Up there quality wise with Cheaney and trickers in my opinion. Not had the India made stuff.

    This makes interesting reading:Article
Always amazes me how good society is at at completely overlooking the detrimental effects mass car ownership bring as a whole due to our fixation on these fast and shiny boxes.

I read somewhere that the CO2 produced in making a new car in some cases is as much as the CO2 the car emits over its lifetime – is it therefore better to keep running an old car than buy a new EV? I also hear that once EVs are widespread, and because the running costs are so much lower – it is expected that people will be driving literally everywhere – much more so than currently, so we’ll need more roads and infrastructure to fit all this extra driving in – all of which will be CO2 footprint heavy. Our complete inability to give up the car for all of our even most basic mobility requirements means we are, as a race, are **** and cooked – hot planet here we come. So the argument about SUV vs normal car is fairly inconsequential in the grand scheme of things. It should be a question of reducing how much we drive significantly to the point of exception rather than norm, regardless of what we drive.

Will this crisis make people question their life choices in being wholly and slavishly dependent on fossil fuels and internal combustion for their entire basic mobility needs? maybe, maybe not. The system is designed to keep us all in cars as much as possible because its good for the economy innit. It allows us to completely overlook the issues that excessive road traffic bring like noise, obesity, loss of wildlife habitat, road deaths/injuries and CO2/exhaust emissions that are all detrimental to our quality of life and long term survival as a race. Human beings are a peculiar bunch.

was there Saturday for the first time in 2 years with a group of 8 we had a good 8-9 runs on the 9am-130pm slot and rarely got stuck in any queues for buses, trails were quiet top to bottom and in tip top condition, we had a blast!

Anyone care to chip in on how strict are they going to be with photo id I’m a late name change substitute and missed the transfer window. Emailed without response. I can take photo ID but it won’t match the name on the ticket!

Use an old pair of handlebars and put them over the long end of the Allen key gives a much longer lever arm therefore greater force to loosen the bolt

Managed to get a last minute ticket after someone dropped out. Obvs too late to ‘swap names’ so I’m just going show em the ticket and plead insanity if they ask for ID.

Sounds like you really need the estate car back! – the more I look at bike racks and the faff and frequent stories of bikes stolen off racks means my bikes will always be carried in the car not on the car.

£60k is one hell of a budget, and I’d never conceive spending that much on a depreciating liability, even if I had the cash it would be £20k tops on something like a 4 yr old low miles Audi S3 and the rest would go on not having to go to work when I am old.

ran mine on a 120 fork which was good for most stuff for a few years then I realized what I actually really needed was a blur, and after riding the blur for 5 years I realized what I actually needed was a hightower.
So my advice is to learn from my folly and just buy the hightower.

£400k is a good wedge, why not go part time or do something you enjoy for a living but less money? the problem with retiring is – you’ll need to do something with all that free time – or if you’ve got a good plan for retirement and the numbers stack up then what are you waiting for? I know of a few people who worked hard all their lives, built a up a nice pension and a list of what they wanted to do when they retire, to keel over at 65 and become the richest corpse in the cemetery.

“hoping the current van market will drop a bit and prices become more sensible”

I think you and 6 million others are also waiting for this to happen which means inevitably -prices will still stay wild for the foreseeable, especially with international leisure travel still looking unlike for much of this year.

otherwise its a great idea – but prepared to pay top $$$

Keep the Rolex as it’s a potentially appreciating asset. Buy the ebike on 0% finance.
