got my 200tdi hardtop last september and love it. Perfect for carting dogs, firewood, trips to the tip, tramming over fields shooting rabbits, cost me £3.5k, so not expensive, insurance is £100yr and 25 mpg, and it makes me smile every time i go out in it. AND the odd trip to off road centres / pay n play days are sooo much fun.
yes its cold noisy and basic inside but thats really not the point…..

Car cost 9000 will keep 5 years and assume worth 1k on resale so 8k depreciation or £1600 year
20k mile a year at 10p a mile £2000 year fuel ( jeez thats depressing)
    mot £100 year
    service and tyres £300 year
    Insurance £350 year
    so 4300 year 23p/mile
of which my work car allowance covers, but only just….

i also have a land rover but dont even want to think about costs for that

alan got the valves yes, theyre fitted to the towel rail already and all the pipes are above floor level so easy to get to, what i dont have is the copper pipe and t-piece or whatever fitting needed to connect it to the existing pipework, sound good? ill pm you with a number and we can get it booked in!

alan, what it is I have a downstairs bathroom with heated towel rail fitted to the wall, it needs plumbing in to the central heating system, the nearest radiator is the otherside of the wall so it should be a straightforward job i think to hook it into the system, let me know what ya think!

mechanics on a disco is another issue they are massively unreliable and electrics are a mega expense to fix. defenders are basic bolt together and parts are cheap and mechanics are much simpler to fix.

discos look pikey, defenders look cool, im my opinion, though I am sure they are as equally capable in the muck

bought a 93 defender 4 weeks ago and it is mega fun, huge load carrying capacity for dogs/wood/guns/trips to tip and gets me across farm land effortlessly for my pest control work( rabbits foxes pigeons etc) and on the odd payn play day at the 4×4 centre is unstoppable on some pretty gnarly terrain! all for less than 4k with no depreciation and £100 year to insure

I do however wakeboard and would suggest you start there, its alot cheaper to get into ( £20 for 2 hours at the cable tow, £20 for 15 mins on the boat£2-300 for board and bindings) and great fun, itll set you up with some of the skills you need for surfing/kiting if and when you get the money together!
