You don’t need Quattro unless you track across muddy fields regularly, and are keen to spend loads on fuel and additional servicing costs, a 2wd diesel audi or vw with winter tyres on will be just fine, I have an a4 avant and its superb in every way

Just swapped over my mk 1 superlight to the 2010 frame, stiffer yes, lighter, yes but only marginally, still rides like a superlight and looks much sexier with the curvier swing arm

Spent 300 on a pair of leather lined wellies but they see daily use and are sooooooo comfy, also will last many years.

40k is comfortable, 70k is very comfortable, from experience. though I do have a small mortgage no credit card debts or children to pay for! And the missus pays her share too, we also drive old bangers but have nice holidays and ace bikes.

should add that my initial pm experience came from my consultancy background managing design projects but moved into working as end client PM managing contractors on construction projects to get more site experience and to be honest its what i love doing, couldn’t go back to a full time office job now.

Moved away from consulting to project management 5 years ago and it broadened my horizons, i am a cvil engineer and now work all over the world, doubled my salary in 2 years and find work much more stimulating! Much more opportunity out there if youve got some pm experience.

Currently working in Oman at the moment where its equivalent of 20p litre, so of course everyone drives everwhere in 4litre v8 land cruisers doing 9 mpg, so i guess affordability does play into people decision making. Also in the omani press yesterday i read an article about car accidents here being one of the leading causes of death and disability, not to mention the effects of air pollution. So I guess in the uk whilst 6.30 a gallon is what we pay, it certainly falls short of the true cost to society. Not that im anti car, but i think the bigger picture is often forgotten when we chose to drive our cars.
