You haven’t got the maturity (or interest) at 18 or even 21 to fully understand the politics and political games involved. I was much more interested in partying, big brother and Neighbours at that age. I do like the idea of each candidate having a specific pledge(s) though – a list of local things they will do if they win – could be loosly based on their representative party.

Ebikes are faster uphill and on flat sections, especially if technical terrain. They are as fast downhill as well, comparing similar with similar.

I live in N Wales and those trail centers are rammed at the moment. I’ve been mtb’ing for 25 years and have never seen it so busy.

I did visit Afan in the summer of 2020, it was mid week though, and that was a bit quieter.

That said, I do believe the younger generation coming through are more into enduro and ebikes, which does tend to draw them away from trail centers and more towards off piste riding, bike parks or ‘cheeky’ ebiking up somewhere you wouldn’t consider (as much) with a normal bike.

I know a few 20-25yo who are buying ebikes over a normal bike. It will be interesting to see where XC Racing goes in the future.

It’s not a grumble as such, just an observation. The number of charity events, and events in general today is much more than 20 years ago.

Are the toilets closed though? Except for the summit cafe thats closed for the season.

You have three in Llanberis, one in Nant Peris, one in Pen y Pass, one in Rhyd Ddu to name a few.

The amount of people going up Yr Wyddfa on bank holidays is unbelievable. Even in winter it attracts a lot of inexperienced people – I’ve been up there in full on winter gear to come across people hanging to the edge for dear life in adidas trainers, one slip in that snow would have been fatal.

I’ve noticed a lot more charity events there now as well; Snowdon for Sunrise as well as the national three peaks etc.

I’m not sure what the solution is – you can’t stop people walking up there – except to avoid the place on sunny bank holidays.

I’ve just sent my front fork to silverfish to be serviced.

Royal mail: What’s in the parcel

    Me: mountainbike front fork

Royal mail: Confused look, then looks at his colleague. ‘Does it have diesel in it?’

    Me: No

    Royal mail: ok then

    Off it went

I used to size a medium at 5ft 10inch but have moved up to a large SC due to their shorter seat tube (Modern geometry). I was also restricted by the seat tube length and the dropper I could use – I always want to have a 150mm dropper. I also have a whyte 129RS medium and a 150mm dropper just fits for me!

Best bet is to sit on a few bikes but the shorter modern seat tubes does enable you to get a longer reach/longer toptube bike – if that’s what you want.

I think there were issues with the Dyfi before Covid so it looks unlikely to return at the moment.

Crib Goch isn’t a difficult scramble – but you will need a head for heights as it is exposed. There are also no easy escape routes, so one you are on the ridge you are basically committed.

A good days scrambling is the Bochlwyd horseshoe in Ogwen valley – Tryfan, Bristly Ridge and down Y Gribyn Ridge. All grade 1’s but more difficult than Crib Goch – as you can veer off piste slightly to make it a bit more challenging as well. It’s only around 10k in distance but will take you a full day to do.

I have been in the market for a new bike for a few years but haven’t bought anything yet. I bought a top of the range santa cruz around 2009 for around £3,800 – same type of spec now is £8/£9k where wages havent increased that much in the last 12 years.

    Started running and hiking instead..😁

I feel somewhat for Ukraine having been screwed over by Russia, Britain and the United States to de-nuclearize their weapons.

If they still had them, I doubt Russia would be at the border today.

I guess this is why the US, UK and EU are now frantically panicking and they are party to putting Ukraine in a very exposed position.

Looks like the Russians have given Ireland a wake up call as well – whilst planning on playing war games off their coast – the only protection Ireland had was their fishing fleet.

Just shows we have to invest in our defence.

I burn less calories and have a lower heart rate using an ebike compared to my normal bike. I think you do loose fitness.

But you gain a better average speed and a longer distance; for the same time.

I did 50km on an ebike around CYB and was less tired after that than I was after doing 30km on my normal mtb.

    Great fun emtb’s though.

A garage in general is a damp environment, especially in the winter. I had some ply shelving which also developed some mould, had to take them off, remove the mould and paint them.

More than water ingress, I think its more the damp, cold environment.

It reminds me of the time we left our backpacks at a col before sumitting Mont Cinto on the GR20. I took my wallet etc with me. There was quite a few hikers about doing the GR20 but everything was still there when we returned down. Thinking of it would be hard to steal and carry an additional backpack at that location and you’d stand out with two packs!!!!

Probably the value of that pack and contents must be £750 plus.

Betws y Coed is a nice place to stay in.

As for the riding – doing two trail centres a day will be tough especially as you are riding on 4 consecutive days.

Coed y Brenin – gotta go there
Antur Stiniog – for the the downhills
Marin – fire road climbs with some good singletrack as well
Penmachno – some good tracks, take some mudguards, it will be wet. Quietest trail of those listed.
Llandegla – good centre, easier tracks than the other trail centres.

Quite liked Dr Who on a Saturday evening but the recent series with Jodie and Bradley have been poor imo; I don’t bother watching anymore.

Unless they change something I can’t see it lasting much longer.

Yes – I think generally that mtb riders are technically better, where road riders are generally fitter.

Bazz – I have that issue as well.

Tried warming up more but didn’t work.

Made sure I wasn’t going off too fast – didn’t work

Made sure I stretch after finishing – didn’t work

I’m slightly on the heavy side for running – wonder if its anything to do with weight?

My brother has the Trek Rail full suspension bike, with the bosch battery.

One of the only current ebikes that ‘look good’ in my opinion and the thing flies uphill!

I’ve had that with my xt 1 x 11 since new, nothing to do with wear – suspect something to do with its design.

I had a look at the stitching, after rechecking the rip is more like one inch – so decided to go for a new tyre as didn’t want to chance just a patch and the tyre blowing off!

So I presume without sewing there is a risk of the rip elongating – not sure about sewing – looks like a new tyre then.

Echo Telegraph valley – we rode down it last year when it was being gravelled – awful surface for cycling and walking.

I assume there will be a new genius in 2022 as well – quite fancy one if the shock is integrated and it also rides well.

We’ll have to wait until there is an announcement then…

I do a lot of wild camping but live in Snowdonia so have a lot of places to choose from.

For me wild camping is about pitching late and gone early the next day – I never leave my tent up during the daytime and I wouldn’t pitch anywhere near someones garden, unless desperate, ie very bad weather and I’d be gone as soon as possible.

As said could be homelessness – I know that campsites are full in Snowdonia – so maybe no campsite availability for them so they have chanced it in a field?

If they give you £10/night x 3 = £30 each back – is it worth the bother especially if they did everything and were apologetic?

If they offer something back I’d just take it and remember the holiday you enjoyed.

I hike a lot that way and personally wouldn’t bother taking a bike up there – difficult terrain to cycle imo and much more enjoyable on foot.

I have a massive collection of rucksacks at home….. Lowe Alpine, montane, osprey..

I’d go for an osprey talon 33. Easy to use trekking pole holder, ice axe holder, plenty of nice external pockets for drinks and a fleece, adjustable back..

Above inflation bike price increases has been happening for a long time, not just new years eve 2020!

I bought a high spec santa cruz blur in 2010 for £3.5k, 11 years later you are looking at £9k for the same spec bike. Wages haven’t gone up x3 since 2010.

I trade shares through Hargreaves Lansdown. At £11.99 per trade it is not really worth investing £100 or £200 – you need to invest more to cover the buying and selling costs.

I currently have shares in BP and Shell and was quite lucky to buy them when they were low, but I still think they will increase more when lockdown restrictions and normal usage returns later this year. When they recover I will probably sell them in the next 12/18 months and reinvest in future technologies such as electric bus/van makers.

I also have shares in a pharma start up – this is a punt which may multibag if the pharma trials are successful, but I’m also aware that I could loose this amount as well. I’d never take a punt on something with money you cannot afford to loose though as it is a form of gambling.
