    Thanks matt.

Yes I can see that. It does say no internet connection.

I have tried a different router as well. Inputted my own username and password and that didn’t connect either.

The Openreach engineer seemed to suggest it was an issue at Plusnet’s end, but they keep calling out Openreach!

Is your username setup@plusdsl.net – in the hub settings, Advanced, Wireless/Broadband settings?

The hub manager doesn’t require a username. It only requires a password. The hub password is different to my account password.

To connect to Plusnet, the hub is using:-

    Username: setup@plusdsl.net

Password: don’t know as I cannot see it.

In the router config page (192.168.1.254 – Advan ed settings), I have tried to change it and input my own <username>@plusdsl.net and password. The hub will accept my username, but it doesn’t accept the password; always defaulting to the hidden password.

Surely it should be as simple as connecting the supplied hub and it works?

I have since just factory reset the hub.

Mattyfez – yes I can see that.

Oceanskipper – I think the Openreach engineer was as much saying the same thing about it being a Plusnet issue, without saying it; if it makes sense!

Still no luck using an ethernet cable and a laptop.

I can connect to the router. The status is no internet connection (can’t remember the exact wording).

Threre is a section within the router settings for you to enter your broadband username and member password. The router will accept my username, but not my password. It always defaults to something else when I press connect.

Are you able to acces the routers log-in page, but it’s rejecting the credentials you enter?

    Yes I can.

The Plusnet router accepted my username, but rejected my password. It keeps defaulting to setup@plusdsl.net.

The generic router accepted my username and password today, but still doesn’t connect.

What I really need is a plusnet engineer to come over to my house – as they will have access to their own tech team!

    Plusnet is the supplier.
The Openreach engineer had a spare Plusnet router that he tried.
I have also tried a generic router today where I have inputted my account username and password – but still doesn’t work.

A new cable was also tried by the engineer.

pk13 – yes there is an ont box with three green lights, cable then to the router.

Sandwich – yes as you describe.

The router was set up by the provider.

I have also tried to input my username and password into the router – but the provided router will not accept the password for some reason.

I have also borrowed and tried a different router – but still doesn’t work.

Only Openreach engineers have been to the house – but I have asked for an engineer from my provider to get involved now.

Is the modem the bit that Openreach put on the wall?

Just a bit of an update on this.

Although I was encouraged to do my final assignment and they would let me know when they mark the other two outstanding assignments, I decided not to bother with my final assignment until I get feedback for the other two.

It is a lot of effort to prepare an assignment and research into it, and they have still not  marked them.

It is a higher education qualification, and to be honest I am not too bothered about it now. Maybe one for my employers to go chasing after their fees back.

I had that recently when I sold a £900 bike. Although I have sold bikes ok on there before – they did hold the money for the full duration this time. I got positive feedback within a few days but it still wasn’t released for a month.

Nice little interest earner for ebay!

You won’t get a beach and a trail center together. Somewhere around Barmouth would give you car free access to a loop of Pont Scethin and you could use the old cycle track from Barmouth to Dolgellau and local back roads then to Coed y Brenin – but that in itself is quite a ride not including any trails itself.

If you got somewhere along the Conwy valley train line, you could then use the train to access Llanrwst (Marin) and Blaenau Ffestiniog (Antur Stiniog).

If you have a car, that would be easier in my opinion.

    Is she hot? !!!

She is probably embarrassed about the whole thing – just let it go and act as if it didn’t happen.

No need to escalate anything – unless she starts being a bunny boiler.

I hired a full suss full ebike from E Venture bikes in Keswick a few weeks ago (Lapierre Overvolt). I also did Skiddaw and the north loop in Whinlatter – just enough charge in the bike to do that and the linking road section between Skiddaw – Whinlatter – back to Keswick – in ‘Tour’ mode for me!

    Get the Rail!

I didn’t like the suspension on the hire levo I had – Fox Rhythym. Maybe the more expensive ones are better with Fox Elite. Much preferred the Rockshox on the base models. Also not a fan of mixed wheel sizes!

However the majority of the ebikes in the same price band come with the same components and ride similarly – it just depends what motor you prefer and if you have a local dealer to fix any problems.

I hired a Lapierre Overvolt (mixed wheel size) to get to the top of Skiddaw a few weeks back – really good fun if I’m honest and was able to cycle the majority of the uphill – something I couldn’t do on my normal bike.

We did the northern part of the GR20 – with flights over a 10 day period.

Tough walk and very basic accommodation on the way, we took our own tents.   Quite an acheivement though, it’s the elevation gain day after day thats the challenge, nothing more than basic scrambling in places, but they have inserted cables in the more challenging areas.

However we didn’t see any of Corsica, kind of wished we booked 12 days to give a day either end for exploring the capital etc.

Scott’s seat tubes have always been long!

I like to size up my bikes so at 5’ 10” ride a large but usually have to replace the 170mm dropper that comes with the large sizes for a 150mm dropper. However I prefer this as I like the reach of the large!

Just replace the dropper for the next one down, travel wise.

I’ve just sold three bikes on ebay – not for massive amounts but realistic prices. A lot seem to want 75-80% of new price for a 12-18 month old bike, which I don’t think they’ll get.

Ebikes for some reason are always priced very high second hand, bearing in mind the potential warranty issues down the line.

However new bikes have jumped up again this year, some Giants have gone up 12% after something similar last year. With inflation raging at the moment and wages just not keeping up – I suspect this new bike price bubble might very well burst.

A winter tent isn’t usually a light tent. As you will be in it from 6pm until 7am you need something bigger imo so you can at least sit up in it and have room inside for all your winter gear.

I have a hilleberg akto and soulo – and both are too small imo for winter camping.

I have just bought a kickr and got a Wahoo SYSTEM free trial. The sufferfest workouts on there are quite good so I think I’ll initially keep that going until christmas. With the mtb plan I can incorporate a few outside rides into the plan as well, which is more important to me at the moment rather than the zwift racing.

It may change over winter though!

    Many thanks for the suggestions.

I’ll have a look at my guidebook and the OS maps to try and put a gpx of various routes you recommend together.

Thanks I’ll have a look at that site – which of the routes would you recommend?

Hike a bike is fine with me – presumably mostly on the ups?

I’m currently paying around the average cap at £1900, so I presume in October I’ll be paying the £3600.

No way I’ll be paying £5200, £6600, £7000 net for energy, which is what an extra £9/£10k gross required on your wage. They can come in and switch the gas and electric off!!!!!!

Pretty staggering to think that prices could be up to £6k + next year – from just over £1k a few years ago.

As with increased food and fuel costs, you just wonder how some people and businesses are going to make it through the next couple of winters.

It’s going to be make or break for Liz Truss – she cannot let further price rises take effect, especially to £5 / £6k – but I’m unsure where she will get the £ ,000’s of £ required per household neither – mayby tax more on Shell etc all’s profits?

Back in 1986, when the Conservative government privatised the gas industry, it had only been nationalised for 40 years, since just after the end of World War II. With privatisation, shares were issued, about £9 billion worth, and many people invested in the stock market for the first time in their lives. It seemed like a brave new age.

It certainly seemed that way for the newly formed British Gas, too, since they’d been promised a lucrative monopoly for the next 25 years. That didn’t happen, however. 14 years later, in 2000, the market was opened up to competition, and consumers took advantage of it, many millions of them switching suppliers.

Overall it seemed as if privatisation was a good thing, as domestic gas bills declined by 32%, much of that spurred by competition since 2000. But now prices have risen and risen dramatically. What went wrong?

I feel we are in for a tough 12 months. With inflation soaring, there has hardly been talk about mortgage repayments in the news, its been all energy and petrol costs.

With pay rises nowhere near inflation, people are going to be reigning in their spending which will only hit the retailers that have already been hit badly by Covid.

The easiest and probably busiest route is the Llanberis path.

Alternatively take the bus to Pen y Pass and walk up the Miners track. This is a little bit steeper than the Llanberis path in places.

However both the above are likely to be very busy.

You start lower with the Watkin path and it is a little exposed with loose ‘scree’ at the top – wouldn’t be my first choice with young ones.

Rhyd Ddu path from Beddgelert will be one of the quieter routes, good views as well. However there is a little bit of exposure at the top bit – depends on your families experience of hiking.

The safe bet, but busy route, would be the Llanberis path followed by the Miners track.

If you wanted 36’s, the spec was for 36’s and the shop confirmed 36’s – then 36’s it is.

I’d only want 38’s on a full enduro bike, or a long travel ebike!

I haven’t done the TdMB but have done the GR20 in Corsica. I’d just practice consequitive hikes carrying the load you intend to take with you. The biggest challenge is hiking the consequitive days when you feel fatigued and tired, but you do get used to it quite fast.

And then you have the Bank of England governor, who’s on £575k a year and undoubtedly a millionaire, asking for pay restraints.

They just don’t live in the world the majority of us does.

I fully support them in terms of inflation and pay rises.

The cost of everything is flying upwards and 2% just doesn’t cover it.

We also did it last week over three hot days. The ground conditions were perfect – a little too hot for my liking.

Stayed at Rhayader and Llangurig and did it over three days.

The route was much better than I expected, a bit of everything really with 50km, 70km and 50km days – with between 1,100m and 1,700m elevation days.

I would recommend a geared hardtail/short travel full suspension for the job!

I’d also go with aminimum 160mm travel ebike full suss, unless you only ride fire roads. Let the motor do the work for you.

I also can’t see much point in a weight saving carbon ebike, may as well get an aluminium frame and better components.

I’d go 29er myself, although a lot now seem to spec 29/27.5, which looks a bit strange imo.

If its not – it will be over the winter once the energy prices kick in and wage inflation fails to keep up with real life inflation.

I see that Scott have increased bike prices approximately 10% recently – as people reign in spending I think we’ll be less inclined to spend big on bikes.

I have a bit of a bee in my bonnet about bike prices in general !!

I’m looking at doing it next week – weather depending. Staying in Rhayader and Llangurig.

No idea about steepness but expect around 1,000m elevation a day.

Why are you not doing all of it?
