I’ve reached the same point in the rebuild, the oil! Having the same problem trying to work out how to put the oil in. at the moment they are re built with no oil, they are nice and free moving but a little too springy!

There is a bolt in the bottom of each leg, if you’ve only removed one you may have missed the one under the damper adjuster knob.

All you need to do is wrap a wrag around the dmaper knob then grab it with a pair of pliers to pull it off. Once off you will see a 8mm allen key bolt, un screw that and the forks should come to bits

So far the 97 manual seems to match up, got the uppers and lowers split now. No wonder they were stiff the grease on the stanctions had turned into glue! Although it’s probably been in there 16+ years

They have a 1 1/8 threaded steer tube bye the way. 165mm long I think.

I haven’t got a clue what they are worth, so I’m open to an offer

They came on a 94 kona I’ve just bought. 95/96 is probably a good guess, recon the were probably fitted as an upgrade.

I think they just need a service as they are stiff, once I’ve checked them out and am happy they are working properly I’ll be selling them as I’m replacing them with a set of RC31s

Superstar sintererd for me, never had a proble yet with them and must have been through 50 sets+.

A number of guys in our club use them too, and I’ve not heard one complaint to date.

I might send the bits to Stella Artois and ask them for an explanation!

It was a good course, probably the best I’ve ridden there yet as the singletrack sections being a bit slippy let me gain back time on the fitter guys who weren’t quite as confident on the slippy stuff. The cottage return has to be the highlight of the lap, although the speeds I was hitting down there were getting silly towards the end and a mistake would have resulted in a major crash. I ran small block 8’s tubless, were fine all day. They slid a bit on the rocks in the evening, but were predictable enough to still go hard on the downs.

We battled hard to take 3rd in the main 12hr pairs, but after around 10 hours had to conceed defeat to the Clee Cycles / KCNC boys. Two years running now we’ve taken the coverted 4th palace spot.

My team mates Dad took a load of photos on the first few laps, and they are all up on the MTBMonkey website here (http://www.mtbmonkey.com) for download.

Just before you hit the tarmac rd down to Dockray take the bridleway on the right up to the Dodds (just about discernable)

It might be ‘discernable’, but we pushed practically every yard…

I was happy with my planned route until I read this! Is the bridleway from the coach road to Helvelyn really that bad?

Thanks for the advice so far guys
The initial route I had come up with was to use the old coach road, over towards Dockray then head south to Summit Helvelyn via matterdale common and head down birk side, and re-track the borrowdale bash route back to Keswick.

Reading the above this seems like a OK route, if so is there an nice 3 hour loop from KEswick we could do on the Friday rather than the Borrowdale bash?

Mines just a desire so probably hasn’t got that feature .

Haven’t ridden from the church inn for a while now , we moved the start of a few rides to other pubs in the area. We still start some rides from there though . We are next there it the start of march for a ride round Carlton lees. All the rides for the year are up on our website if you fancy coming out one night
