I’m after a 30.9, 380, 125 drop non stealth with RH lever and that’s the cheapest I’ve found.

    Thanks Bucko.

    Which one??

    Stealth or non-stealth
    Post diameter
    Post length
    Drop
    left or Right lever
    They all make a difference

Non Stealth 30.9 dia 420 but could possibly get away with shorter – probably rh lever and mount on left to keep under the bars

Not too much mud when I went a week or 2 ago…just puddles mostly. Certainly a lot better than my local trails!

Why not just cycle up the A460 to where Marquis Drive crosses it and ride from there? I think there’s a path at the side of the road you could ride on if you don’t fancy the road ride. You could do either FTD or MT first whichever takes your fancy….Think I would do FTD first and finish with Monkey.

It was a rather surreal experience here…..I was supposed to be the first in but as hey were running late they decided to move me to last and all the other blokes kep on time!!! Great watching them all hobble out looking like they’d spent too long on an oversized horse!! Then…Lying on the bed with tackle out and definitely not looking my best! About half way through and the receptionist waltzes in for a chat with the Snip Doc…eeerrmm excuse me! The wife wanted to watch too (obviously snip curious) something about being interested in proceedings as she lectures genetics research….
Anyway best bit was I got the green light for a new bike!!

Don’t particularly find either harder to build with. Cut a slot in a piece of wood to stop CX-Rays twisting,

Indeed a thin saw kerf in a scrap bit of Ebony here!!

you’ve got to go on feel with Revs et al a bit more, but it’s not really harder IMO, just different.

I get over this by wrapping a small tab of masking tape on each spoke towards the nipple (leaving enough room for the spoke key) You can see if the spoke turns and do your half turn or whatever from when it stops and reverse the nipple back so that the tape is back in it’s original position.

They’re lighter and supposedly stronger than round spokes and IMHO look better too – for 20 quid of your money I’d say yes!

If anyone put spinach in front of me at breakfast, especially if it was sullying the same plate as a sausage, they’d be taking their life in their hands

    +1

    I’ve just scoffed:

    2 x Sausages
    1 x Spinach
    1 x Beans

    Spinach for breakfast….WTF

Does it have to be a Santa Cruz?
What about Yeti, Turner, Pivot, Transition etc?
If you’re looking at a Bullit you’re looking at “pre-loved” there are loads of great pre-loved bikes for sale at good prices in particular 26″ wheeled!!!

If you’re getting back pain and have knee problems, I would suggest that you have a proper bike fit for both position and crank length whatever bike you go for – sounds like you’re lacking a full suss in your quiver!

If you can’t remember which way your pedal threads go….

With the bike standing upright, put the pedal spanner on the pedal. If you turn the spanner towards the back of the bike, you’ll loosen it. Remember “Back Off” and you’ll be reet

Or just remember “right is right & left is left” (hand thread)!

I looked at these….liked the magnetic ratchet idea, a bit like the dt swiss ratchet but with magnets rather than springs. In the end I went for Tune King & Kong – Always liked Tune – light weight, look good and well made. The freehubs used to be a bit fragile but the new (blue) ones are supposed to be stronger. For me King & Kong were the best bet as didn’t feel it was worth the extra for Prince / Princess to save a few grams (and not convinced of the durability of these). At the time R2 Bike were about the cheapest I could find.

Did the dry Jan last year and was going to do it again this year but the Wife talked me out of it claiming that it had a detrimental effect as hammered it in Feb!!! Just nothing Monday to Friday 6pm – I (we) would miss calling in to the local with the dog after walkies…dog gets a packet of crisps and a pint for me and a half for the lady all very civilised!

Thanks guys…not been there for a couple of years (morphed into a bit of a roadie for a while!!)…pretty sure most will be outpacing me at the moment as not been riding much lately what with local swamp conditions and other commitments.

why cotic? never heard of them.. Isn’t steel heavy? I am looking for something light

    Really!
Slightly heavier that Carbon & aluminium but will be more durable than Carbon and ride “better”? than Ali.

“The thing I’d be more concerned about is why you look like you’re dropped off to your left hand side….”

Maybe saddle a little too high causing rider to rock a bit….or he’s just putting the hammer down!!

As said above…try rotating the bars forward so that the top is more horizontal, this might make the levers easier to reach as will be more in line with your forearms. You might need to rotate the bars a bit more and reposition the shifters…

    No brainer here…..Tubeless!

    dustytrails

Trouble clipping in….try pushing your foot forward and down – both clipping in and out will get easier as the pedals & cleats wear a little – also a bit of light lube on both might help

I liked Pan Fire XC Pro’s back in the day on the old school hardtail….not sure I’d want them for AM/DH tho!

Are you using a proper turbo tyre? For the record, I-Vortex uses an electro brake and is a VR trainer and reasonably quiet.

I have a Tacx Vortex….electronic resistance rather than flywheel/wind resistance – it’s pretty quiet and has VR capabilities too!
