I know you wanted a book but I’d recommend the Knot So Fast game; used with good success with Scouts etc. Shop around though as it can be quite pricey.

One legged uphill race for clipless riders – no swapping leg though!

Space invaders – mark off the play area with stones/sticks/rucksacks, objective is to get in each other’s way and force them to dab but not crash. Each dab is a “life”, can have any number of lives. All about slow speed control/track standing.

Find a long stick and play bike limbo. Lower the stick with each round. Make a silly paper crown for the limbo king/queen and tape to their helmet for the rest of the ride.

Have you considered helmet mounted mirrors? When I was looking into mirrors for touring I finally went for a helmet mounted one. It has the bonus of being able to scan as much area behind you as your neck can move :D Handy if you are an owl.

Agreed, brakes are rubbish. Wider bars and replaced the saddle to make the bike a little comfier. At £420 it really is a bargain.

The most fun bike I own. Just feels right. Do it.

I went bike touring with only 2 pairs of bib shorts. Wear one, wash the other. Easy! Depending on how long your commute is you could get away with a few days without washing. Depends how much of a tramp you are :D

Try making adjustments on the neck brace. I’m assuming it “won’t work” as the shape of the helmet limits movement too much.

For what it’s worth, I’ve got a Bell Drop and a DBX Ride 3 and I’m quite happy with it. Good movement when set up properly. I find the chest strap useful too.

Gore-tex socks are a million times better than SealSkinz IMHO. Never used overshoes but always been happy with Gore-tex socks and letting the shoes get wet!

Mcmoonter, thanks for the suggestion. Their cover includes bike touring but it doesn’t seem to cover the bike. But it is cheap. For those on a bike that isn’t worth insuring then it’d make a great choice.

I think for bike touring on a decent bike the obvious choice of insurance is via the CTC – more pricey than others but it covers the bike. An extra £50 to cover the most essential part of touring isn’t a bad deal in my mind.

Two. It reminds me of our local mountain rescue charity collection box.

We flew to Schipol (from Edinburgh) then got the train from there to Antwerp for last year’s Groezrock. It was cheap. And Antwerp’s train station is phenomenal!

Got one leaning against the side of the couch and one leaning against a storage unit on top of some newspaper to catch the drips :D and all the associated things that go with mtbing. I have more bike shoes than non-bike shoes…
    Flatmate doesn’t have a choice.

I was walking to the bike shop with my SS wheel and got a wave from a roadie riding up the street. I was so shocked as almost every roadie I pass on the mtb that I wave to ignores it. To be fair so do most mtbers I pass. Maybe it’s a Glasgow thing. Laughed at some poor woman in city centre yesterday in the pouring rain with back to front forks. She was very puzzled when I pointed it out.

I found the AM40s to be very grippy but the sole hasn’t lasted very long – about 4 months. I still use them though.
Can’t comment on Five Tens however.

I’ve had mine 4 months and the sole’s wrecked. Keep meaning to send an e-mail to Madison.

If I was going for a pint in Stirling I’d go to No 2 Baker Street. Used to go in after work if I wasn’t riding home. They had Harviestoun beers on tap. Saying that, I haven’t been in ages. Haven’t been in Stirling for ages for that matter.

Hmm, I guess it is the pedal pins slowly eating away at the sole but I’m really not impressed by this. I think they’re really good shoes but not if they’re only going to last a few months!

It’s no that nice here :| I’ve got a load of studying to get done  So while you’re all off riding I’ll be in the library…

    Can’t say I do

I know; Most drugs don’t go well with alcohol. It’s like the news saying he took some paracetamol. Wow. Hardly worth writing home for I don’t think.

Got Sunline V3s too in 25mm rise. Great bar at a great price. Using a 25.4mm clamp my options were more limited than OS clamp.

    Aye that yellow thing!

Since M800 and M585 (LX) share the same pads the bleed block specified for M585s should do eh?

After switching to Time pedals I’ve got a pair of M520s you can have for a tenner if you want. Nothing wrong with them. E-mail in profile if you’re interested.

Try another Giro with the same sizing? I’m sure most of their helmets use the same sizing.
If you’re really concerned order both and send the other back? Or take a trip to a shop that stocks them?

Get the AM40s while you still can, I don’t like the look of the AM41s. They’re good shoes, nicely warm and keep your feet more dry than other shoes. I’ve never had Five Tens so can’t compare however.
Using the softer insole gives more feel on the pedals which is nice.

Not sure if it’s any use at all but I got an Oxford motorbike chain lock from TkMaxx for not very much. No idea if they’d still have them but it may be worth a look.
