Not laughed so hard in a long while when Clarkson revealed his solution to stop the Jag overheating when continuously backing it up was to open the bonnet…

    Really? 😕

They are stickers; I got over this stuff in the 1970s when I got them from breakfast cereal.

    I never did.

(Do I get a free sticker for that? Pleeeeeeease? 😉 )

    ‘utilise’ instead of ‘use.’

Almost every time I hear the word ‘issue’ it troubles me.

This goes beyond my expertise! I think you might be right though. Sounds like you might need to do it album by album. 😯

    Best using what criteria?
The best for me so far has been from helvellyn past dollywaggon pike down to Patterdale. Haven’t felt so good after a descent in a long time.

    Using what criteria? 🙂

I’m doing this now.. Rip all CDs to the external drive, then copy all files to to it. Any that are already there will be replaced with identical ones if you say ‘yes to all’ when it asks ‘replace files with same name?’

Once it’s all together on the external drive, make a copy as backup.

I’m sure someone will come along to tell me there’s a much easier way!

I believe 6 hours a day on STW may be deemed as custom and practice, and so form part of the terms that should have been TUPEd across. Tell your new bosses that.

I met Eve earlier. She is younger than me. Is she the youth of today? She wanted to know how much i earn. Not sure if this is relevant.

Thatcher Hitler was never useless. Very easy to disagree with herhis policies but she was visionary in much of what she did and had more balls and conviction than any of the shower we have had since.

Do you see what I did there? very clever innit? 😛

    Also, this is excellent:

Find your own bleedin’ quotes, what to you think I am – a defence lawyer that needs to provide exhibits to a court ?

Salt first, then Sarsons to wash through the “stack”.

    Anything else borders on perversion.

I had a few nasty bites off something that looks a bit like them last summer. One of them must have been near a vein, as there was a purple bruised track upstream of the bite, where whatever is in its spit had got into the vein. Itched like a bar steward for weeks.

So you’re saying the preferred terms are (sorry) black and white?

Nope. Nothing I said went even near prescribing preferred terms, so..

I don’t agree. I was chastised for saying “black” and told to say “coloured” instead. So I did, and someone else told me off for saying “coloured” so I used “brown” instead, and got told off again for being facetious. “Asian” seems safe, but confuses Americans who think I mean Chinese. Pakistani is less ambiguous, but coming from a white man it sounds a little too close to someone who really wants to say “****” instead, and in any case is inappropriate to describe those who were born in this country and are British. So now we’re into things like “person of Pakistani descent” which is a bit like saying “person with Y chromosome” when you mean “man.”

    etc.

Well. Thinking about what you’re saying (and thinking about what you’re thinking) is a good thing.

Is this not the whole point of so called PC? It seems you agree with it at heart.

Getting legged up unintentionally because you’ve accidentally used a word that’s taboo this week doesn’t help anyone.

But then you seem to find it a bit tricky when a handful of words barely anyone uses happen to change in usage. These kind of changes tend to happen over decades, rather than days.

it still altering history is it not?

    No.

    It. Is . A. Film.

And the previous film will still exist. No secret, no Stalinist rewriting of history. Just a newer version of a fictionalised film. Was history altered when the 2008 version of Funny Games was released, including some differences from the 1997 version?

No, because it is a film. The true story, of which each film is a fictionalised account, is still the true story. History has not altered.
