Ridiculous Q gadget scenes where the technology consists of a spike-covered door that slams a person into a wall when they use the knocker. WTF? The secret services seriously developed that? Ever?

Austin Powers nicely skewered all that. The Craig films have restored (given?) some dignity and credibility to the franchise.

‘Pleasure Beach Resort’ makes it sound vaguely as if it could be somewhere nice. Each one of those words creates a nice feeling. ‘Blackpool’ might not do that any more. It’s all about the marketing.

I liked the bit at the very end with footage of a giant squid floating 1000s of feet down in the blackness and holding a huge undulating mass of eggs. So alien, and amazing, it looked like something from the vivid mind of a sci-fi visionary.

It sets out such a vast amount of evidence of horror on coalition forces’ watch. At the same time there was a complete disjoint between what was happening, and being recorded, and what leaders were telling the world.
