I am after a mobile pressure washer of some kind, though the Nomad I want is something like 180 sheets 8O

My feelings were only reinforced when the only oustide tap to my 3rd floor flat froze yesterday though.

Where can you get an 85p bus ticket? 1987?

It £2.50-odd for less than 2 miles into town from our house. Mrs PP used the bus a few years ago when she was on crutches and was shocked at the price.

I think there are still 85p/£1 fayres on the student magic buses that shuttle up and down Oxford Road in Manchester. Either way, I think you see my point.

Bus drivers are the worst kind of dickheads, especially in Manchester.

A £4.10 fee with a tenner is fine imo, if she was trying to pay a an 85p ticket with it then you could maybe see his point.

I enjoy running and do about 30k a week, though not at the minute as I am injured :(

Getting up to 10k should be fine and is a challenge that anyone can do, just apply the +10% rule when you want to increase the workload and you should be fine.

It’s great to get out and do a 10k if you’re not out on your bike or short of time- all it takes is some trainers and a pair of shorts and a top, you’re done in an hour and it really feels like you’ve pushed yourself.

Plus, running in the rain is awesome.

It’s a bit of a difficult comparison really, asking people alive today would they go to war in 1914 or 1941 or today. Totally different eras and way of life.

I was under the impression (could be wrong) that for at least some period of time, many WW1 conscripts believed they were heading over to France for a turkey shoot and had no idea of the horror they faced until they got there. Which of course couldn’t happen today with the way the media is etc.

And of course being called up to fight Nazi’s and fascism is an awful lot different to being asked to fight morally ambiguous wars in Iraq and Afghanistan.

I read Genertaion Kill recently (really good) and one of the themes it explores is whether Marines today in the US, as part of the MTV Generation could possibly be as ruthless and deadly as the US marines in WW2 in the Pacific. The author quoted a statistic whereby a surprising percentage of WW2 Marines deliberately shot to miss (I can’t remember the figure) whereas that was the very least of the problems with today’s generation of Marines, made for interesting reading.

Me and my g/f are going to Rome in January- seems like an odd time of year to go but never been before and I figure we can always go back in the Summer if we want to. And at least hopefully the tourist stuff will be less busy.

Not sure what kind of holiday you’re after but I also went to Berlin last winter and it was brilliant. Not sure if you’d want to spend a whole week in a city though.

I would like to visit Stockholm or Copenhagen as well and kind of consifer these as ‘Winter’ holidays..

I think the psychology of it is quite interesting- the oldest guy is organising them all pretty strictly and apparently his experience managing a local amateur football team is proving invaluable now- who'd have thought?

They've also been told to designate separate recreation, work and sleeping areas and are organised into teams doing shift work, cleaning, maintaining, checking etc, as well as rigging up lighting to keep a clear day/night schedule.

Still, I can only imagine how it must feel when they found out how long it would take to rescue them :?

'Hey guy's we've drilled a hole to give you some stuff! Do you want some water?'

    'Yeah!!!, We need water'

    'How about some food?'

    'Yeah, give us food!;

    'And some Christmas presents?'

    'What?'
