Lets us not forget where the Nimrod came from; it was a sixties aircraft based on a modified version of the Comet, which dated back to the fourties. It certainly left a capability gap, but it should have been replaced decades ago.

We shouldn’t get involved with ISIS; never tangle with anything that’s got more teeth than the entire Osmond family.

I’ll second the use of the clicker; we’ve had some good early success with teaching some basic things using the clicker. We use it to mark the behaviour we want to see, such as walking next to me.

Now, when were out for a walk she’ll mostly trot along next to my heel, even though her instincts might be telling her to chase cars / children / leaves. It’s amazing really.

Is that a very tiny Jack Russell, or just very large leaves?

She’s not very big, but the picture makes her look even smaller than she really is.

We’ve also been trying different games to tire her out mentally. Current favourite is the empty water bottle with a few treats inside; she spends ages trying to make them fall out! Free fun!

I’d avoid any tug of war type games as this doesn’t help your chances of teaching them to drop things that they shouldn’t have.

We have a 4 month old Jack Russell who is responding brilliantly to training. We’ve been working on ‘leave it’, and she’ll reliably drop a toy on command, even during a game of tug-of-war.

Different strokes for different folks, i suppose. Any excuse:

This included laughing inappropriately at tragic events.

Black humour is a perfectly normal way of dealing with difficulty, shirley?

    ‘tragedy’ + ‘time’ = ‘humour’

Good work! Someone at work has a labradoodle who looks just like that. She’s really well behaved, but suffers really badly from seperation anxiety. I’m sure it’s an isolated case, but I’d be mindful of giving her some time away from you, so she gets used to it.

We’ve not long adopted a Jack Russell; 16 weeks old now. We’ve been taking her to proper training classes, and she’s responded really well. I can’t recommend them enough.

I hope she doesn’t give you too much trouble!

Rubbish sound; spending years developing a huge expansive world with millions of interesting objects, and then only employing 2 voice actors to account for the hundreds of NPCs. I’m talking about Bethesda, clearly.

linearity; i like being able to wander off and explore places, instead of being shepherded down a set path. Half Life 2 for example.

Not fancy building one then? You can either make one from scrap (such as an old file or section of leaf spring), or buy the blank and make the handles.

I’m currently making one from an old file.

It’s about time this thread was resurrected!

I’ve recently inherrited my Grandfather’s workshop, full of old tools. Bolted atop the workbench is a Woden 4″ vice, marked with 185B/3 (not sure what that means). There’s loads of play in the operation, and the jaws have been thrashed, so it’ll be perfect for a refurb one day.

There are also a couple of drill press vices in there; currently none in this thread!

Crikey, there are a few names here i don’t recognise; best i start googling!

I’m feverishly taking notes over here. I left school at 16 with practically nothing 11 years ago, and now I’m about to start an open degree! Good luck, and report back when you’ve had some feedback!

What is the press for? Are you intending to stamp patterns from sheet steel?

The grinder looks brilliant! Didn’t fancy making one then?!

Never been a fan of GnR; far too much hype in my opinion. The only song of theirs which i think has any real merit is ‘civil war’. That said, I’m more of a Prog fan these days.

This is much more my thing:

I’m probably somewhat younger than most here; the album which introduced me to Maiden was Dance of Death, so that will always be special to me. That said, i listen to their live albums pretty much exclusively; Rock in Rio is my favourite.

Guessing your female as your so presumptuous.

Finally, someone is prepared to adress the real issues here. For too long this forum has tip-toed around these points.

Jokes aside, this is what you need. Hope that helps.

When i put my boots on, i can feel how the sole has moulded to the shape of my feet. If the sole were changed, this would obviously be lost.

I’m only asking out of interest; when mine wear out, they’ll get replaced.

Have people had good experiences of re-sole ing? Shirley they’ll need breaking in all over again…?

I suspect I’m in a similar position to the chap above; I’ve got some for work, and they’re wonderful. Mine are brown, but if you use brown polish on them then they’ll go red. You’re much better off with AltBerg’s own wax.

That said, I’ve not worn mine too much just yet. I’ve been doing a different job for a while, for which I’ve been wearing Lowas and Meindls.

Why don’t you try gardening? It’s outdoors, you can dress like your filmstar / superhero / special forces soldier of choice, and you can nip into the house for a brew at any time!

As usual, the only injuries sustained were as a result of using the slides.

Good work by the BA crew and airfield emergency services.

‘The infinite monkey cage’ if you have any interest in science-y things. The whole back catalogue is available on iPlayer.

Agree with most of the above, with the exception of Pink Floyd and some of Radiohead. U2 are awful, as are Oasis.

A a general rule, i don’t like any band whose name begins with ‘The’. With the exception of The Offspring (and in reality i only like two of their albums).

Try ‘newsnow’. It takes all the other news sources and brings them together. You can also isolate specific areas of interest.

‘Chap Door’? Not heard that one before.

I gather it’s a game that’s got many different names… Clearly the correct one is ‘Knock and Run’.

RAF Logistics type. I spend my days working with interesting kit and interesting people in interesting places. I love what i do, for the most part. However, lots of time away can really put a lot of stress on the family (i went to the middle east in January, and only got back a couple of weeks ago) as can moving around every couple of years (I’ve gone from Wiltshire, to North Lincolnshire, to Lincolnshire and to Cambridgeshire in the last 5 years).

I left school 12 years ago with no qualifications, no aspirstions and no prospects. The RAF took me in, and now i have a great work-life balance (when I’m in the UK), i earn much more than most of my contemporaries, I’ve got loads of transferrable skills and experience, and i get to go biking on work time (as a Joint Service Mountain Bike Leader).

I’m also soon to start a degree, which is very heavily subsidised by the Service; It’ll cost me a couple of hundred quid at most.

I owe a lot to my job.

    Rubbish picture, great bike.

loving all the Jones! I’d love to join the club, but the Inbred is more in my price range just now. That said, all the Hope kit wasn’t cheap…

As with bikes, half the fun is in building it. £500 is plenty to build a good quality machine; it’s the other stuff that’ll run the budget over, such as mouse, keyboard, screen, operating system…. if you have anything to recycle, then you’ll save muchos monies.

As for the OS, you could install SteamOS (it’s free) provided you’re building a dedicated gaming machine.

How have you made the section between the blade and handle? What material is it?

I worked my way through ‘Insanity’ earlier this year with a group of people at work. I thought it was… ok. If your other half is short on time then it’s probably ideal. That said, if i was doing it on my own then i’d loose motivation pretty quicky; perhaps that says more about me than anything else.

Make sure you’ve got plenty of space on a hard floor (you’ll be dripping in sweat by the end of the warm up / stretching phase).

(I can’t speak for the diet stuff, as i completely ignored it.)

This has sparked something of an interest. Can you recommend some good online reading?
