Have a look in the National Archives here: http://www.nationalarchives.gov.uk/help-with-your-research/research-guides/

There are loads of records for all sorts of things including combat reports and personnel files.

Leave seemed to be running on the following promises, hopes, desires; call them what you will.

But, what are they now saying about them now they’ve won?

Remember, it was a referendum not an election; the country decided on the direction of travel, they didn’t vote for the leave campaign. Policies will all come later.

I think the media can be blamed here, with their constant insistence on using terms like ‘won’ and ‘lost’. Its not about winning, its about guaging public opinion.

I’d say that it’s around 50/50, from the people I’ve spoken to. I’m not really typical STW readership; my colleagues are mostly educated, centre-right military types.

This is bigger than party politics. Anyone making decisions based on David Cameron, Borris Johnson, Micheal Gove, Nigel Farage, et al, or making decisions based on the integrity of the two campaigns, are barking up the wrong tree. The individuals will all be gone and forgotten in the next few years, but the EU will still be there.

Take it to a machine shop and have the stays welded up? You can’t buy history.

I’ve never known them crack at the stays. What’s caused that? Is it definately not just the paint?

I looked into this a few years ago; the general concensus was that it’s not worth the bother. As long as they’re looked after, a normal frame will last for decades until it rusts through. It might be worth draining the water out if your bike has been swimming (and I’ve seen people recommending drilling a hole in the BB shell for drainage).

If you do have a stab with Waxoyl though, be careful of it leaking out of the seatstay vent holes and covering your brakes / drivetrain.

Great story about the Inbred. You often hear people claiming ‘repairability’ as a plus point for steel frames, but it’s rare you see anyone actually repairing them.

I have an Inbred and a 456, and i’ll certainly look i to repairing them if they break. You can’t buy that kind of history!

Pretty sure all hm forces get the one on the right hand one, as my misses has one.

That’s the Diamond Jubilee medal; she’ll have qualified for it if she joined before Feb 07.

We spent some time taking our Jack Russel to proper training classes when she was little, which i would definitely recommend. Terriers are reputed to be troublesome, but with a little training we got ours to a basic level of obedience (loose lead walking, not barging through doorways, sit and wait patiently for food, et cetera) within a few weeks.

Whenever i take her out i’ll have a pocketful of treats which she’ll get fed regularly; this is simply to reinforce the mindset that staying near to me is much more interesting than running off.

That said, when she hears the sound of children playing (her favorite thing to investigate) she’ll be off; whatever i do after that point is irrelevant. I just rely on spotting the interesting things before she can, so i can call her to me and put the lead on.

Another vote for a terrier here!

As working breeds, they tend to have very few health problems relative to other breeds. They also tend to live longer.

Our JRT is only the size of a cat, but she can play and run all day. They’re also very intelligent and readily trainable.

Slowoldman – i did see that, but i’m after an old one i can tinker with. Thanks! It also looks like a great cause.

    I like the Inbred, Stoner!

I really fancy an old Post Office bike, like this one:

Rod brakes, heavy, slow… perfect! You often see tatty ones pop up on eBay for £50ish. Might look into getting one later this summer. Probably paint it something other than red, though.

6 pages, and no one has yet mentioned the fourth wheel; Andy Wilman. He was every bit as much a part of TG as the three on screen.

I didn’t think much to it, really. That said, i’m giving them the benefit of the doubt. It’ll take a while for them to find their feet, and if they get Chris Harris and Sabine Schmitz on screen more, then it’s got some real potential.

all 3 back seats lift out and leave a huge boot space.

Not had a look at the Octavia? The boot is about double the size, although the seats don’t lift out (they do fold flat though).

The little Swift Sport is meant to be a brilliant little thing. I’m sure the Fiesa is great too, but I’ve never been a fan of Fords. No reason why.

    My vote is for Swift.

Ignore the tax difference. It’s all changing again in April, so they’ll both be £140 (i think).

    4.

I suppose technically that makes me an atheist, but it doesn’t define me as a person. In Derren Brown’s words “i’m also not a Botanist, but i don’t define myself by my Abotany”.

I can’t help but notice an overwhelming lean to the 4/5 end of the spectrum. Do you think STW represents a good cross section of society? A few years ago, the BBC suggested that some 60+% of the UK population defined themselves as Christian.

Duffer – Great picture but slightly cheating. Nose door open and tail bump stop down mean they have only just taken off.

I noticed the nose door and wondered whether it was a taxiing aircraft which has been photoshop’d… Perhaps not!

I didn’t really know anything about the Bucc until i researched it for this thread. It seems like it was thrust unwillingly on the RAF after TSR2 was cancelled.

It’s a more historically significant aircraft than the Vulcan, in my opinion. That said, it’s never enjoyed the same popularity.

I’m fairly sure there are a few Canberras still flying; i think Martin Baker still use one for testing [edit – it’s actually a Meteor].

Your playlists will be available on whichever device you pick up, and you can even remotely activate them (use your phone to dictate the music your PC plays, for example).

As for playing music offline, you’ll need to identify it on each device individually; select the song/album/playlist/artist and check the ‘make available offline’ button.

I have a Leatherman Sideclip which i carry every day at work. Just the other day, for example; someone snapped the key off in a lock, and 10 seconds later i’d retrieved the broken bit! I was carried out of the building on a wave of triumph!

Not too interested in the far east.

I feel a bit of a cock for saying this now. Just finished The Forgotten Highlander. What an unbelievable story.

    Shocking in so many ways.

Not too bad mate! I’m moving soon, about 90 minutes from your place. We’ll have to get the band back together!

I run a CM and a Smorg on my Inbred, on Blunt 35 rims.

They inflated no problem with a track pump.

    Nobeerinthefridge.

2 of them were already tubed for more than overnight.

Took them off, Stans tape and valve as per instruction, refit tyre, soap on bead and wont go up with my pump. Cant see how another night of tubed will help when the past 3 months tubed didn’t.

In my opinion, you came unstuck when you removed the tyre from the rim completely. I’d have popped one side, removed the tube, and reseated that one side. This means you have only half the sealing to do.

It used to be something of a fashion to run the 26″ inbred with a 29″ rigid fork, so as to achieve a slacker head angle.

The Inbred is a tough little frame. I wouldn’t worry about it.

First early spuds went in a few weeks ago, and they’re well up. No sign of the maincrop just yet. We also have some alpine strawberries which are new for this year!

Notsospeedy – if you have some patio space then you have a few options; get yourself some bags of compost (usually 3 for a tenner), cut them in half and stand the halves on end. You’ll have 6 containers to put whatever in. We’ve grown tomatoes this way, but most stuff should work, like courgette or spuds. Not bad for a tenner.

    How computer savvy are you?

There are a number of programs out there than can help you break into the machine, but it’s usually pretty involved. One method i have used in the past is to create a bootable DVD or Pendrive with the program Knoppix.

In effect, it boots into an Operating System which lives on the RAM. Therefore Windows (and its security) remains untouched, and you’ll have free access to the hard drives. There are also programs within it to help recover lost passwords.

Not really listened to any Deftones since White Pony. Listening now to Gore; they sound different to how i remember them!

I listen to more classical than anything else at the minute. This sort of thing, usually:
