Unlucky, i’d say – Could happen to any tyre. Now go and get a cheap set of High Rollers. Or some Swampthings for the mud.

    Duffer whereabouts on the a15???

I’m soon to start work at Kirton Lindsey, but it looks like i may be moving to Scampton, so it’ll be a good 15 mile ride. Honestly, i’ve been hoping to get a job a decent distance away, so i had an excuse to ride!

    You local?

commute through a mountain pass in north lincolnshire…

    Which one is that?

The A15 😉 Although i’ve identified a nice quiet back lane that runs parrallel to it, so i’ll be using that to avoid the unbelieveable traffic on the A road.

The area is as flat as a fart, especially seeing as i’ve spent the last 4 years mountain biking in the south west…

I take it you guys have good shower access etc at work? I’m moving jobs in April abd it looks as if i’ll have myself a nice 15 mile road commute through a mountain pass in north lincolnshire…

Anyone got any experience with the Roadrat wheelset? I can’t seem to find any reviews around, except for the Alfine equipped one.

You can get it on iPlayer too. There have been 8 episodes so far (i think)

    Cotic sell the following

“Alex R450 32 hole rims on ROADRAT cartridge bearing disc hubs £125”

That’s exactly the sort of thing i’m after! Thank you, sir.

    Rim or disc brakes?

I’ll be using discs. I’ve got a few sets of hydros sat around, but i may well invest in some BB5s/7s so i can use drop bars.

100mm RS Recons on mine. I’m not a fan of air suspension, so i got the coil ones. I’ve got a riser stem to bring the bars up a bit, but other than that it’s spot on! I have run it with 140mm Pikes, but for day-to-day trail riding, 100mm is fine. Perfectly capapable, even on the trail center Black runs i’ve ridden it on.

Pay no attention to what the stickers say – look at where the top-tube meets the seat tube and seat stays:

On an inbred, the top tube is slightly lower:

On a 456, they line up:

I have one so I have to go around the world promoting them according to the unwritten rules of Internet forums.

456 is my recommendation, in that case! It’ll take up to a 160mm fork, and you could even get the summer slacker for a DH bike head angle (it was actually conceived to give a nice head angle with a 100mm fork, but people put even longer ones on there instead)

NB – This one isn’t mine, but it’s more of a play-bike build than mine 😉

Serious gamers use PCs 😉 better graphics, better sound, faster/smoother gameplay, developers console enteries….

Seriously though, if you want to play blu-rays or surf the internet get a PS3. If you want to use your new games console for playing games on, get an XBOX, for all the reasons above.

    I would bin it now.

Failing that just ride it and stop worrying.

Couldn’t have said it any better myself.

Crossrides for about 8 months – talentless 15 stone rider, riding a hardtail once or twice a week. They spin well, they’ve stayed perfectly true (despite regular small drops/jumps) and all the spokes are still taught. What more can you ask for?

Have a look at the Superstar Tech 2s. £85 quid a pair at the minute. One of my riding buddies has had a set for about a year, and reckons they’re easily as good as his Hope Hoops.

I’ve got a Leatherman Cruch (one with mole-grips) that i’ve had for about 8 years. Gets daily use at work, and it’s never had a problem. I just lubricate it once a year…

If you’re going to get one, i’d suggest getting a full-size one like a Wave or similar. They seem to last much better that the smaller ones, and stand up to more heavy-handed use.

why the **** haven’t my pics shown up?!

they were there when i previewed the post

You can see them, because you have a Talk Photography account. All everyone else gets is a red cross. Try hosting them on Flikr, of similar.

I had exactly the same problem on my commuter. Cheap shimano square-taper cranks got taken off, and some race-face ones went on (courtesy of a mate)

I thought about grinding the inside and outside rings off, but it hardly seems worth the effort.

And yes, you could just leave the triple on, and put the chain on the middle ring – just looks a bit silly, that’s all.

I would imagine the first course of action would be to fire shots in the air to disperse the crowd

They should only ever open fire if they perceive an “imminent threat to human life”, and kids throwing paint at an armoured car is hardly that… However, mistakes happen (bloody sunday, anyone?) and these protestors/idiots are playing with fire if they are prepared to put on this kind of performance around armed police.

Do Charles and Camilla really get 24/7 armed protection?

    Yes.

Being an incoherent idiot doesn’t make you a thief

Clever, coherent thieves don’t steal bikes – they steal diamonds 😉

Seriously though, anyone that has bought a bike of this calibre (price) would at least know what size it is.

Looks dodgy to me. Any bike with “float fox forks” and “mini hope brakes” is clearly nicked.

Titus have the sexiest headbadge in mountain biking.

It’ll not look quite so sexy when it says “Doncaster” across the bottom.

I’ve been in the RAF for 5 years. I enjoy the job, but you have to accept the BS that comes with it (and i get very little BS in relation to the Army/Navy). I’ve seen planty of the world – and be in no doubt, if you join you WILL be spending time in Afghan. Some of the RAF are doing 6 months+ of EVERY year away, such is the state of our aircraft fleet.

All you moaning buggers give up your easy, dull life in the UK and put your money where your mouth is and **** off to Pakistan and help all the poor homeless people devistated by the floods or go to the UAE and help the Pakistan and Indian people get home…. Oh you wont its not really my problem

Just the other week i was flying aid to Pakistan, thank you very much. It's been all over BBC news, if you care to read about it. Enjoy your fabulous hotel, fellow "keyboard warrior".

A couple of years ago i bought a Peavey Milestone 3, brand new from the 'bay for the princely sum of £40. It's proably just about the worst bass money can buy, but i only bought it to see if i would get the bug.

Unfortunately, due to other commitments (work, family, MTB…) i've never had time to take formal lessons. I still want to though.

it's vile disneyland in the desert, built and maintained by slavery, $25b in debt, just vacuous heap of tasteless, tacky, morally corrupt, oppressive, vulgar shite

Couldn't have put it better myself. I've been with work a few times, and most recently spent all of august there, so i've only just got back. I really don't like the place.

It's ok if you want to go shopping, just bear in mind that everything is hugely expensive. Alcohol is allowed in select hotel bars and restaurants, but you'll pay through the nose for it – expect to pay 40AED for a glass of house wine (just over 7 quid).

You'll be well avdised to steer clear of the Asian women. The place is crawling with whores from Thiland/Malaysia/Cambodia/Vietnam/etc.

But otherwise, i hope you enjoy your trip! 🙂 And i wouldn't bother taking your bike – it'll be a bit warm for that. When i was there it was getting to 57 degrees during the day. It'll be a bit cooler by the time you get there, but still too hot for riding.
