And massive fork for some reason…

    err it’s a 456 and thats a 140mm revalation so hardley massive

But it’s a 456 Summer Season… It was conceived to give a slack head angle without having to use a long fork. If i recall correctly, a standard 456 with a 140mm fork gives a HA of around 67 degrees. A 456SS with a 100mm fork gives a HA also about 67 degrees.

Brant – As a man who knows a thing or two about the 456, can you confirm this to be the case? It’s something that i read a long time ago. Since then (and since you moved away from On-One) they have been sold and ridden primarily with 140mm forks, which somewhat defeats the object, surely? It seems that the majority of bike riders/builders simply assume that a bike with a slack HA needs to have a long fork installed on it.

I’ve used my wife’s HTC Desire – no thanks!

If you’re set on an iPhone, then you carry on, sir.

I maintain that Android is a much more flexible platform – if you don’t like the way it looks, then you can change it. You can even set it up to look exactly like iOS.

It’s a gimmick, as far as i’m concerned. After a week you’ll stop using it all together.

Get an Android phone, instead 😉

I suspect they started having trouble shifting Enduros…

If you’ve got the brass the Pro is better value with the superior fork and shock. But I managed a year on my X-Fusion shock and it coped just fine – no fancy bells and whistles but it works.

I looked for a Pro when i bought mine. I couldn’t find one in the end, so i bought a Comp and decided i’d buy a new shock when the X-Fusion one gave up. Three years later, the X-Fusion is still performing faultlessly!

I can’t comment on the Foxy. But as for the Pitch, i can’t recommend it enough.

you probably have about 3000 cookies or temp internet files, and all that £20 will do is delete them, which is easy enough to do in your browser.

I agree. If there really were 3000 speed issues, then i reckon you’d notice windows being slow…

Download CCleaner (the free one is fine) and let it run through it’s “Cleaner” and “Registry” processes, and you’ll be ‘reet.

A defrag won’t hurt, either. If you don’t run them regularly, then it’ll take hours. The best bet is to set the machine up to run a defrag regularly. My machine boots up every wednesday at 0100, runs a defrag, and shuts down again.

Credit cards are for people who don’t know how to control themselves. That’s where the problem lies

I got a credit card for the first time last year. I use it when i buy anything online, and clear it at the end of the month. The next bike-related purchases i make will doubtless be on there.

If i’m ever to get a motrgage in the future, then i need to build some kind of credit history….

Good video! Nice and chilled out – and i like the brew! Although it’s probably gone cold by the end of the video – you should give it a good old slurp from time-to-time, just for effect. Looking forward to the next installment!

My major gripe is with language – how do you expect to be taken seriously if you don’t mention how “super-stoked” you are, or how your coaching sessions are prone to getting “rad”. I hope you’ll take my advice on board, and get some propper MTB cliches in the next installment… 😉

I decided I wanted a Lyrik and a dropper seatpost on my Pitch, in the end I went for a second hand enduro with both of these on and sold the Pitch. I dont regret it, but I do feel a little gutted that the pitch was maybe a pound lighter than the new bike

Perhaps it was lighter because it didn’t have a Lyrik and Dropper Post! 😉

To be fair, i fancy getting both of these things for my Pitch, too! I’ve always told myself that i’ll only replace things when they break/wear out. My pitch is three years old now, and the only things i’ve changed are the Grips and the Brakes (now XT). Everything else is still stock, even the Tyres!

    Brilliant!

That kid really wound me up, but to be fair he took it in good humour.

This Mr Grist’s material looks like something i’d enjoy – i really enjoy Tim Minchin’s attempts at poetry…

Duffer – doubt the nose will stop that sort of thing – most flips are caused by front wheel to back wheel contact. eg. Indy has lower noses but flips are all too common.

Whilst I agree that front-wheel-to-back-wheel contact will throw a car up in the air, the high noses will to it too:

I suppose it’s just one less thing to potentially cause an accident.

The high noses of recent years have caused quite a few accidents. Mark Webber springs to mind instantly:

It was only a matter of time until they got changed.

The Beast is the obvious choice, and it takes in parts of DB and MBR too.

Personally, i hated every minute of Tarw – fireroad descents at a trail centre(!). I realise it was the first trail there, but it doesn’t make it any less shite. Only to be ridden as an absoloute last resort, in my opinion.

What is it with Bristol.? I seems every week there’s stolen in Bristol thread.

Unfortunately, lots of bikes means lots of oppotunity for thieves – and lots of demand, so it’s easy to flog them on.

At least it shouldn’t be too dificult to spot a pink one. Best of luck mate.

    My list:

    1 – Afan
    2 – CYB
    3 – Cwmcarn
    4 – FoD
    5 – Cannock

But they’re all rubbish compared to the Mendip Hills on a stormy Wednesday night in Jan!

Time for a good old thread ressurection, i think!

What’s the consensus on Privateer, then? I let my MBR subscription lapse some time ago, but now i fancy some new material to read. I always enjoyed MBR (much more so than MBUK or WMB), but i fancy trying something new.

I immagine it compares well to a magazine like STW – being twice the price, does it offer twice the content/quality?

…..actually this being STW, I cant believe no one has volunteered to pop round and cheer up mrs renton.

Saw Opeth at sonisphere last summer and they were not bad at all. Also saw a wee band called Feed the Rhino and for 12 o’clock on a Sunday morning they blew me away! Give them a go and feed back please! Can’t be just me on here rates them!

They’ve got a kind of post-punk metalcore feel about them. I’d place them somewhere betwixt 36 Crazyfists, and Deftones. Not really my cup of tea, i’m afraid. Thanks for the suggestion, though!

I upgraded from 10.10 to 11.04 and hated it. Ended up getting Mint 11, and i’ve never looked back.

Unity is designed purely for the (now effectively defunct) Netbook market. On a screen with a decent resolution, it’s useless.

    Mint: Ubuntu that works.

Here is a generic link. **edit – too slow!**

A nice 60a will be more than enough. I generally use a set of 60a wire hihgrollers all year round. The 42a is only worth it for really slippery work (i have 42a swampthings for when it’s really slippery)

    Thanks for the info, chaps!

We certainly won’t be riding the route in a day – perhaps 4 or 5 days is more realistic.

I’ve never riden that sort of distance before, so it’ll be interesting, to say the least!

Has the front headphone jack worked in the past? Have there been any major software changes recently?

If yes, then it could be a driver issue. You might need to update your motherboard drivers.

Alternatively, it could be that the front headphone jack is not set as a default sound device. Check “Sound and Audio Devices” in the control panel.

5’11” and ride a 58cm Honky Tonk. Fits like a glove – but then i do like my mountain bikes to be a little longer than most…

One of the best games of the last decade is Portal. You’ve no doubt played it. The only thing wrong with it is the lack of replayability. Once you’ve played it, there’s not a lot of point playing it again. At least not until you’ve forgotten the maps.

Before that, the biggest impact a game has had on me personally, is Final Fantasy vii.

The Call of Duty series has been this way for some time. They seem to assume that ALL of their customer base only want to play online. The single player mode is nothing more than a token-gesture after-thought.

    That’s why i don’t bother buying them.

Any game by Bethesda will give you hundreds of hours of gameplay, though (if that’s what you’re after!) I’ve recently played Fallout 3 and New Vegas, and now i’ve started on Skyrim…

…but you really should stop being such a tight git.

I’ve not seen that before… Thank you very much!

And you’d be a tight git too, if you’d just spent £500 on your PC! I can’t afford any games!

Downloaded TF2 for the PC but have not played it yet as i will be a total noob and will get pwned.

Don’t worry about it – in TF2, no-one cares about kill/death ratios or killstreaks etc. It’s just a proper laugh!

My advice is to start off as the Medic. Find yourself a Heavy team-mate, and stand behind them at all times. This way, you’ll be an asset to your team (everyone loves a good medic) whilst at the same time you’ll be learning the maps and observing how the games play out!

If you get into it, be prepared to loose whole days to it. Sometimes you find yourself getting into a little battle within the game – i usually end up doing this while i’m the Sniper (i get drawn into trying to out-snipe an enemy sniper, and end up ignoring the rest of the game playing out around you!)

    [/thread hijack] sorry chaps! I think i’ll start a dedicated TF2 thread!

I’ve got some new bits coming for my PC today – 2500k, 560ti, SSD, etc – so i’ve holding off on buying Skyrim.

Any chance it’ll come down to £10 in the next few days?!

Stop messing about with all this rubbish, and get Team Fortress 2.

And if you game on the PC (which you should) then it’s free on Steam!

Duffer, one of them was a US airport!

Have a quick look outside your house – is there a suspiciously non-descript black car up the road, with two men in suits inside? Does it look like there’s a sniper on a nearby tall building?

On the Rapiscan machines, the operator sees a dark patch where any dense materials are found (ie steel). A blade is a very identifiable shape, but a Leatherman will show up as a dark splat. If they can’t identify it as something suspicious, they’ll leave it alone.

You’ll loose it though, if they do decide to have a look. It’s much better off in hold baggage.

And don’t try it in the States, either – you’ll be shot!

Those steps are good fun, and they’re all perfectly rollable. Most have chicken runs, too.

A mate of mine broke his wrist before the first tabletop on Energy! His bike was fine though, so that’s the main thing!

As a first trail centre experience, i can think of more appropriate options than W2… If you’re an experienced Mountain Biker though, you’ll be fine.

W2 (and White’s in particular) is the best trail centre riding that i’ve experienced, by miles. Enjoy yourself!

Well this year i’ve moved from the South West, to the MTB Desert (East Midlands). So my riding is limited to Sherwood, and the ocasional trip to Cannock. They’re both good fun, though! Just not quite as good as having the Mendips/Quantocks/Cwmcarn on your doorstep….

Oh well, i’m making the best of a bad hand…

If you’re going to do the W2 I suggest starting rom Glyncorrywg.

And I’ll suggest starting from Afan so you can have a bite at Glyncorryg half way round, if you’re planning on a lunch stop.

That’s the way we always do it.
