Other than Jones and some drop-bar CX types, i can’t think of any brands that use BB7s routinely…

Here are hundreds of singlespeeds on the market. Have a look through the websites of Charge, Cotic, Genesis, On One, Surly and countless others.

As for belt drive… i think you’ll have trouble there. Other than a few niche custom builders, it’s very much a DIY job.

Edit can someone explain how to do it properly?

You’ll need to find the picture you want to post, right click on it and select “copy image URL” or just “copy”. Once you’ve done that, come back to STW and click on the “IMG” button above the text input box. It’ll ask you for a URL, so just paste yours into it.

That should work, although sometimes people have trouble posting images from their private Flickr account onto a public forum…

    That charge looks beautiful.

I’ve just been bought an Inbred 29er frame that i’m soon to start building. I’m planning something similar to the below, but with more red hope parts. I’m expecting it to cost around £1k all in all.

Image borrowed from a chap called Bazz on here.

I’d say it’s unlikely to have gone bang due to the pressure (although i have no science to back this up). However, over time and heat cycles rubber can “overcure” and become brittle. If they’re old tyres, then it’s a possibility they’ve just perished.

Unless you follow the genre you’d be forgiven for thinking they’d disappeared. You might not hear them in the charts, but trust me: they’re still big news. They pull in massive crowds all around the world, and usually make a point of playing in countries that others never go to. In summary, i think the “80s rock star” comment is very misplaced.

Anyway, who cares who’s paying for it?

Also how can I get my running improved, I need to get under 14 mins on the 1.5 run. I’ve not done any running what so ever in 6 years. I mountain bike but not done any since January.

There’s only one way to get good at running…

1.5 miles in 14 mins works out to a 9:20 pace. If you have any level of base fitness whatsoever, you’ll easily be able to achieve that with a couple of months training.

Just to put the payload into some sort of context:

    A CH47 Chinook will lift about 8000kg
    A C-130 will lift about 14000kg
    A C17 will lift about 60000kg
An AN124 will lift about 200000kg

Wikipedia will tell you different figures to those above, but the Wikipedia maximums are calculated on a best-case scenario (low altitude airfields, little fuel, favorable weather, etc). In reality the operating maximums are often much less.

I’m glad that some clever British engineers are pushing some fancy technology, but i can’t see it changing the world to be honest.

The reserves are crying out for people all the time.

If you do decide to go regular, then i’d consider the other Services too. I can’t speak for the other two but the RAF nurses are on a time promotion to SNCO, and loads are seconded into civvi hospitals anyway (just getting paid more and working less).

Sure does! She’s spoken for, though.

Quote from a few days ago…

I’m desperately trying to justify one of those SS specific Inbred 29ers…

    New frame!

Personally, i think you’d be better off getting a larger freewheel than a smaller chainring – more teeth means less wear.

As for the short cranks, you’ll have to ride them to see if you can appreciate the difference they make. It’d needn’t be an expensive change to make.

Trail Centre – Afan Whites Level.

Trail – The Quantocs, all of it. But especially Smith’s Coombe. Hoping to spend some time around Ladybower this year, so that may change.

Finally found a picture of mine, although it’s very old:

Comedy riser stem is gone, as are all the gears (now 32:16). Otherwise it’s pretty much identical as the above. Brilliant.

Just seen the pictures of the new Pompino. It looks great (especially in raw) but… Why have they gotten rid of the 5-piece seatstay arrangement? It was a sort of On-One brand identity.

I love my basic one, and i could’t think of a single way to make it better.

Until i began to covet thyne wife’s paperwhite… If i was to buy one now, it’d be a paperwhite, no question.

Never seen on in the wild before.

I saw one on the Mendips a few years ago. It’s great to see something different once in a while!

A URL is used when you’re trying to provide a link to something. When you’re posting an image, paste it into the IMG box instead.

Nice bike, too! I’m desperately trying to justify one of those SS specific Inbred 29ers…

I’ve just downloaded Space Engineers from Steam. It’s still Alpha, but it looks like it’ll be good fun when it’s finished. Sort of like a slightly more grown up Minecraft. In space.

Purchased Final Fantasy 7 on steam, going to get a controller then get into that, still nothing else comes close imo.

Agreed. I’ve been playing it through for the last few weeks. It’s perfectly playable on a keyboard, you just have to spend some time configuring the keys to suit.

As above, i’m waiting for HL3, Fallout 4 and also a GTA5 port for PC.

You don’t get many attacks when you have a policy of not invading your neighbours and not bombing people into freedom.

You’re right – they must keep all those squadrons of jets so they can pick up emergency kebabs for the night shift…

This is Opeth – it’s a bit dark, and can be pretty hard to listen to, at times. They also do some proper thrash metal stuff, but there’s none of that here. One of my favorite bands around, by miles; so much beautiful musicianship and variety. Keep an open mind…

Definitely got a rock slant to my preferences

I like to think I’m reasonably open-minded about these things

    Fancy some left-field prog rock?

As above, it’s a long bike with a short cockpit. I’m just under 6ft and my Medium Pitch does feel quite short when sat down. Great for a play bike, but not so good for a long distance machine.

I’ve had the Comp (same colour as the one above) since new. Some of the components were pretty poor (but i knew that when i got it – everywhere was out-of-stock of the Pro version) but the frame, forks and finishing kit have been faultless. Awesome bike.

Unfortunately it’s not getting used now i live somewhere flat, so it’ll probably go up for sale sometime this year.

I think we need to define what “The Army” is… It’s a big company, with very definite distinctions between the Infantry Regiments, and the Corps (RE, RAMC, REME, AAC, RLC, etc).

The Regiments are war fighters, and when they’re not fighting wars then they’ll be training for it.

The Corps are more like the RAF, in that even in the UK they’ll still have work to do, in support of overseas Ops / Exs, maintenance of equipment for the wider Service community, support to civil emergency services…

Who do you think the civvi police call when they find an bomb in a city somewhere (which happens a lot more than you’d like to think)? They’ll call in the Military.

Still I’m sure it’ll sell well to the suckers that think cheap, heavy, flexy steel is still a good frame material.

That’s rich coming from a man who thinks that a “Made in Halifax” sticker is worth an extra £400.

    😉

Looks like the wheels are slightly too big… Shame. 😉 Looks good, otherwise. Personally, i prefer the old seatstay arrangement; kind of like an On-One brand identity (although i realise it was a bit of a Dekerf homage / ripoff).

    Who cares about speed? 😉

Interested in following this thread, as i also really fancy one for a bike hack. I know there are one or two members of this parish who have them…

As Chrssmale mentioned above, don’t forget to account for a copy of Windows (£70 ish).

£500 is plenty with which to build a respectable gaming PC, but you’ll soon go over that if you need a new monitor / keyboard / mouse etc.
