The tin can (1820) and the can opener (1855)! Two world changing British inventions!

I’ve just set up a set of tubeless tyres with Stans. I’ve had the same thing (although i wouldn’t say it’s red in colour).

Dr Google suggests that it’s a normal part of the sealing process. The oily fluid is what’s left over once the latex (the white pigment in Stans fluid) has sealed something. I think.

What about them dropping out with ease makes the bearings OK? (Genuine question)

I think the point he’s trying to make is that if the bearings come out too easily, then there is a problem with the hub shell.

Do the tubeless riders carry around tubes when out on the trails? If you’ve had to use a compressor to get it set up, then you’re not going to have much luck if you have an issue trailside…

I’ve only just got myself a tubeless setup, but i’ve been happily running tubes with sealant in for years. Never had a trailside puncture while using ‘Joe’s no flats’ tubes.

Not ridden yet. The bike is still only half built. I’ve not had a 29er before, so it’s all new to me!

Possibly. If it proves to be too tight then i’ll keep it as a spare front tyre and buy a Smorg for the back.

    And don’t call me Shirley.

I’ve just set up my Chunky Monkeys tubeless on P35 rims.

I’ve not tried tubeless before; the front took about 10 minutes, and the back took about 60 seconds, all done with a track pump and Stans fluid. Brilliant, especially as i was expecting trouble! I don’t know whether it was the tyres or rims (or both) but it was so simple.

Time will tell how well it works!

Update: a P35 with a 2.4″ Chunky Monkey will fit in an inbred, but it’s tight!

Turned up today! They’re lighter than i imagined…

My job for this weekend will be to dabble with this fancy new ‘tubeless’ thing i’ve been hearing about!

I’ve been wearing mine every day for 6 years now. It’s never dipped below the ‘H’ indicator, and i’ve never had a battery replaced.

It’s looking a little tatty, but still going strong!

I’d keep the SC, without a doubt. The money you’d get for the Foxy would pay for a good quality Singlespeed, no trouble. Swift?!

My Inbred will have a very similar setup to James’ Jones up there. 2.4″ Chunky Monkeys on P35 rims. P35s will take a Knard also, so perhaps i’ll have to experiment one day (obviously i’ll never get a Knard in the back of an Inbred).

I’ll post some pictures up when they arrive!

I had a stolen bike returned by police after over a yr being missing, I had full payout from insurance co. £4k

I informed them that “their” bike had been returned to me and what should I do with it? After much humming and dithering they told me to keep it.

Well i suspect the five-0 will ask much the same question…

Hope it works out ok and you get to enjoy your Jones!

Interested to learn more about that grease nipple mod, too…

Just bought a set of Hope hubs (SS rear) built on P35 rims. Expecting good things!

I’ll report back when i have some miles on them…

I did the honourable thing with mine; it went from doormat to recycling within seconds.

I’ve got nothing against The Sun in particular, I just think it’s shite. Along with most of the other tabloids.

Middleburn are always mentioned when talking about square taper.

I’m also building a new SS, but I’ve decided to reuse some old Truvativ 5Ds I’ve got lying around.

    What BB are you using?

I wonder how they’ve calculated the record? If it’s just a ghost, then JB is doing a good job, especially considering the conditions!

Very early days though. This race is definitely on my ‘to do’ list.

Buying all the parts and building it yourself is half the fun!

What’s the budget? Also, why specifically 26″? Shirley you want the best package, regardless of the wheelsize…

the original Pitch sold out for good reason

As I understood it, the Pitch selling so well impacted on the sales of the Enduro (the frame was practically the same after all). I could be wrong, of course!

    What are they doing?

This makes me pleased to own a proper Pitch!

We did exactly this a couple of years ago; we got an end of line Skoda Octavia VRS for much the same price as a basic 1.6 version of the same car. It’s also full of extras that were completely free, such as the satelite navigation, DAB radio, leather interior, parking sensors, et cetera.

Well worth considering, in my opinion. Unless you’re the kind of person that would get upset at not having the newest shape one…

There are millions of them in our area (cambs).

I got a couple of pictures earlier while out running. Excuse the phone pics:

Thanks James. I remember reading about the P35s on your TD write up. Coincidentally, I’m also getting them built on the Hope Pro 2 with the singlespeed rear.

Simonk – I’ll let you know how I get on with them. I’ve also read plenty of positive reviews, so I’m expecting good things!

Is anyone else having real trouble streaming this video? My connection is plenty fast enough to stream HD content, but this keeps having to buffer every few seconds, even at 480…

I’ve tried pausing it for a few minutes, but it’s still doing it.

luggage I can’t destroy or brake

Why not just get a bag? I use a Bug Out Bag for short trips:

It’s not very elegant, but you’ll not break it. I paid about £40 for mine from a BX in Kuwait about 6 years ago, and it’s still going strong.

Having had a second look at the pictures, ours are slightly different; they have 9 seats in the front, and an internal bulkhead to separate the loadspace. I’ve tried to google some pictures to illustrate, but there’s millions of different variants. Perhaps ours are LWB versions?

Either way, i think you’ll be ok.

Dangerous Beans – I tend to load the bikes in widthways on their back wheels, with the front wheel up against the walls. Like this, but much less tidy and with the front wheels still attached:

We use them at work. If you’re creative and interlock them, you can get 12 in (admittedly, you have to dismantle them).

We normally take 7 people, 7 (complete) bikes and enough kit for everyone, and it all fits just fine. Take along something to separate them with, otherwise they’ll all get scratched up.
