You can run in cheap shoes that are not suitable for your gait just as you can go mountain biking on a rusty old raleigh lizard with road tyres, you get the same amount of excercise but its in no way as comfortable.

Buying Running kit is like buying cycling kit, you'll buy some good stuff and some right old crap as well, it's difficult to buy kit that you know suits you from the off so if you are looking to invest some serious cash its worth visiting a 'proper' running shop with pair of shorts and t-shirt and being prepared to do a mile or so on their treadmill when you find something that feels comfortable.

Of course, even then you may or may not notice your £70 trainers are more comfortable or stable then your £15 ones over a couple of miles, but at least you'll look trendier walking home from the pub in them if you dont keep the running up!!

Have a look on http://www.runnersworld.co.uk and http://fellrunner.org.uk/ for some good advice on starting out and what kit to buy.

They come in kit form so you need to either fit (cut hoses, assemble, add fluid, bleed) them yourself or get your LBS to do them for you.

I swapped Juicy 5's for XT over a year ago and haven't looked back, however, their are now more powerful brakes for the same money. I quite fancy trying a set of Formula K24's or One's.

I have 2 large black long sleeve lifa tops (same as picture shown below) I would sell for £28 for the pair including postage, they're not new but only used on rare occasions as they're too big for me, I'd rather sell them and get one that fits so I can get some proper use out of it. Drop me a mail if your interested.

YTou could try some plastic Slime tyre protectors from Halfrauds (or possibly elsewhere) they'll stop probably 90% of puncture.

Nice one, we can all relax now safe in the knowledge that the scumbags responsible will get a slap on the wrist, a rehabilitation holiday in spain for the winter (courtesy of the probation service), and be back stealing our beloved bikes in less time than it takes to say "The CPS are a soft touch".

Its good that you got your bike back though, its always been a mystery to me how the police are rarely interested in chasing bikes worth more than the average second hand car.

I just use some crappy JVC headphones for a fiver out of curry's/Tesco/etc, as they always end up getting broken at some point from being pulled around. Sound quality isn't really an issue when I'm running/riding so I just use a crappy pair and have a decent pair for general personal listening.

    I have a Forerunner 305, but I think the same steps apply…

Plug your 405 into the USB cradle
    Turn it on
    Start Memory Map
In Memory Map select the top menu option "GPS"
Select "GPS Setup" from the list of options
Set Manufacturer to "Garmin", model to "USB"
    Click "OK"
Select the top menu option "GPS" again
Select "Import from GPS" from the list of options
Select what you want to import (probably tracks, but do it all)
All items should now get loaded into memory map.

As an alternative I use GPS Babel to download single tracks, routes, etc, from the garmin device, but using abel is a little bit more complicated, although there is a GUI for it now.

Hopefully that should get you started.

If your using your 405 for training it's worth downloading and getting to grips with SportTracks by Zone Five Software, you can import all your training data and compare it mile-by-mile, day-by-day, etc, etc,, really useful, especially is you use a HRM with your 405.

http://www.westbrookcycles.co.uk, they've got some cracking deals on 2009 bikes, you might be able to talk them into selling you a scott scale 20 for £1500 cash or a little more. Sarah99, haven't you just sold a cannondale taurine? What didn't you like about it?

If he's struggling now he's going to lose his home within the next 2 years unless he gets a substantial pay rise. Factor in council tax, utility, etc, increases above inflation, then consider the fact interest rates have never been so low and will most definitley be increasing in the next 6 months, then add the general cost of living that increases year on year above what most people get as a yearly rise, and finally think about how much our taxes are going to have to rise to fill the hole labour has got us into.

Selling may not be a good option either, I dont know wher this pile of codswallop is coming from that property prices are increasing, they're certainly stabilising and homes are selling again (in the right areas).

Then again I may be totally wrong and there may be some financial optimism ahead.

I'll check out the Astron, the VR stretch has excellent reviews but I was thinking it might be a little too warm for running.

Turbo trainers can be found much cheaper than £260, I've got something like this and it does the trick, and it was only about £70 quid when I got it:
    http://www.wiggle.co.uk/p/cycle/7/CycleOps_Classic_Mag_Trainer_without_Shifter/5360012878/

I bought that and a set of free weights to train with, and the only reason they're not set up is that I dont have the space at the moment, I did use them regularly when the weather was too bad to get outside (…waits for barrage of MTFU comments…), I surprised myself as I expected it to be a waste of money but its certainly had some use, it doesnt induce the same buzz as riding outside but at least it gets you out of the chair when its wet…

Can anyone tell me why house prices are going up again? Homes have certainly not become anymore affordable over the past year as the prices may have dropped but wages certainly haven't increased, many people are still losing their jobs, and reposessions have only slowed down because people are being givn more time to pay.

The fact that interest rates are low now and debt is affordable doesnt mean its always going to be and I think we're just building up more bad debt for the next dip of this double-dip recession. Banks are again too keen to lend cash which is falsely propping up prices.

We need a massive property crash to settle things down, and I think we've only seen the start of it.

Hells Bells, you might as well just order a complete unit from DX instead of just a battery pack!!!!

Been out with mine tonight, its bright enough to ride off road at a decent speed; I was doing up to 25mph at some points and it was good enough, dont know how if it would be bright enough for 40mph offroad downhills but I dont do that crazy shit in the dark anyway. Also has a very good beam spread that makes its good for steep offroad climbs.

Its here! Yes!! First impressions, well made, bright, beamshots and photos on here dont do it justice, I would expect to pay double. Battery is not well sealed at all an I would say this is where the cost has been cut, soon fixed that up with a big lump of cling film, a coin bag and cellotape!!! theres no water getting in that bugger now!!

The battery was charged from the the box but not fully so I plugged it in to charge (wanted to test the charger anyway), and it went red, which is charging right? so I'll let it charge tonight and maybe fix it on tomorrow and go for a little test ride before the weekend.

One thing I have noticed is the lack of green tint (as mentioned on the earlier models), mine looks pretty white, whats your thoughts, maybe they have changed the emitter bin?

I've got a computer on my stem so it's gonna have to fit elsewhere, I was planning to give the battery pack itself a good wrapping in some kind of waterproof plastic before I used it as well, I was thinking a couple of coin bags wrapped up well with cellotape or packing tape.. have you guys took any extra precautions?

I am hoping mine will turn up tomorrow…..

I had some Danger Boy levers (very similar to straitline) on a set of Avid's I had, they were certainly better than the standard levers but I got them in a bulk load of bits I bought, I dont think I'd pay full price for them.
