In case anyone else has the same issue – computer is stem mounted, I routed the cable under the stem so there is some metal between the light cable and computer, and if solved the issue.

Moved the light from the centre near the stem towards the grip and it’s working better but not 100%, going to move if to the opposite side of the bike to the wheel sensor and try it again.

@motivforz, I’ve read and commented on that thread and missed that info, thanks!!

I’ve just made a tinfoil hat so sandwicheater cant read my thoughts.
It never used to happen with the old light so it was unexpected – I’ll reroute the cable and light and try again!

Shimano SPD’s have a small amount of “float”, your foot will move a couple of degrees without actually unclipping from the pedal – this is by design. Not sure about back and forward movement, maybe it just feels like its moving in those directions but is just the float?

I bought 2 solarstorm x2 head units from lightmalls and didnt get the ones in the picture, not sure if it’s worth the hassle of contact and return over 15 quid, normally I am a man of principle and would battle to the end of time over it but i’ve stripped one down, made it water proof and have had a few runs and it seems fine. As long as I get a winter from it I’m happy.

What I can say though is wow! Switched it on, bright, it must start in high mode I thought, pressed the button expecting it to go into low mode, but it went brighter, wow, that must be high now, pressed again, BRIGHTER!!
And run time is very goog, ran it on a combination of low, med, high for 2 hours tonight and the unit only just went down from 3 to 2 battery indicator lights ont the last couple of mile. Its a decent 4 cell 18650 rather than the battery that comes with the x2 but I reckon 3 hours should be possible, even 4 or longer.

Casting doubts over quality aside just go buy one and a seperate battery from torchy or smudge and embrace the darkness!!

You’re not going to get the same top end, so if you spend much time in the big ring and 3 smallest cogs thats what your going to lose. You could mix it up with a 40 outer and 26 inner if you can find one. Ive just gone back from 2×10 to 3×10, well actually upgraded rather than gone back as the bike came that way!

The maximum number of teeth difference a shimano 2×10 front mech can handle is 14 according to the docs, not sure about sram, b I think you could use your current 3×10 front mech and set the limit screw so it doesnt drop to the (non existant) granny.

2×9 doesnt really simplify things or save that much weight as you still have a front derraileur and shifter, you certainly wouldnt notice any performance difference front the weight loss, taking a shit before the ride would lose more.

1×9/10/11 is lighter but more restrictive.

I fitted a Kmc chain and 9 speed xt cassete a few months ago and it wouldnt change into the second smallest cog on the rear without skipping and trying to jump cogs, i wondered if the link plate design was at fault as it has a chamfered edge and x shaped profile. I’m trying to ride it out and see if a bit of chain stretch solves it.

Fitted a 10 speed kmc and xt cassete to another bike yesterday and it seems fine.

Just gone from 610mm, 5 degree, 0 rise to 700mm+, 9 degree back, 4 degree up, and its very noticable, very odd. Think I prefer flat bars and bar ends (controversial/old school).

Also going from 36 max to 34 max on rear… xt clutch mech if that makes a difference.

I remember your original post on selling it was only a few weeks ago so it hasnt taken long to sell and I am sure you wouldnt have trouble selling it to another buyer at the price. I’ve heard that cash buyer bollocks from estate agents and buyers alike, often used as a tactic to make the seller think the buyer is in a better position than they are so take it with a pinch of salt, especially as they are getting a mortgage survey and appear to be stalling or messing you about.
Tell them the minor things on the survey are nothing, if they are not interested at the price negotiated then you’ll be taking more viewings on the assumption the sale may fall througb and you want to get some backup options coming through.

New hellys are much better and smell less, I use the newer slimmer fitting standard ones for warmer days and also the “freeze” for colder days, I trust them and they are good value.

Night school/college (now is an eccellent time as colleges are enrolling right now!) or get a trade/profession while he’s young, don’t threaten to leave unless he has something lined up to go into, definitely dont call their bluff and definitely dont use the “outside my job role/pay grade” tripe, it’ll just make life awkward for him and his managers for the short time he still has a job. Up north the opportunities are limited and there are lots of people with good qualifications/skills/are willing to work for nothing who would love his job.
College will get him a qulificatiln and suuport him with cv writing and job application/interview skills.

Have a good read through the thread below – it’s got a link to cheap Solar Storm X2’s (unit only) and also the list of battery’s and holders you’ll need to put together a better-than-standard-Chinese piece of kit.
    http://singletrackworld.com/forum/topic/that-time-of-year-is-coming-again-whats-hot-in-the-lighting-world

To be fair to Chinese lights I’ve had an original MJ782 for 3 or 4 years now and its still going, original battery set as well!

    This sort of thing?

“If you’re not getting the right answer maybe it’s because you’re not asking the right question”. I can live with that, lets ask a different question….

Which manufacturers high end carbon frames have the best reputation for not breaking, and when they do break, which manufacturer has the most reliable warranty with the least small print and excuses for rejecting the claim?

I bought an 8gb Sansa clip+ about 7 years ago to use when exercising and its still going strong – its outlived numerous apple/Samsung products and has been used pretty much daily, it was £30 so easily replaceable. I’m not sure if Sandisk do a product that matches your requirements but in terms of quality they are spot on.

    Try some tyre comparison sites….
    http://www.blackcircles.com/

Add the tyres to the basket, you get a choice of garage when purchasing, you might have to ring a few garages and check if they can fit to a camper van, but you should save a few quid.

Doing the latest ones often covers the newest product features, and for self taught devs (ie no degree in relevant subject) they confirm you at least “may” have the skills your cv says you have, and if you have been in the same job a long time they will give you a broader insight. I went out to buy a carbon 29er last week and had to seriously hold myself back from buying a 26er with £1500 off the rrp!!!

26 still feels so agile but 29 does feel faster, I am thinking 29er but just get a second hand top end or new chinese carbon to try out, if I dont get on with flog it on and lose a daft couple of quid, not such a major hit. Anyone in Teesside area got a medium chinese carbon hardtail l can try?

Why do you want a new bike? If it’s anything other than ‘it’ll be shiny’ then a current version of your existing model will likely have all the same attributes.

Pretty much thinking that I’ll be replacing a parts over the next year and spending some cash on servicing, so should I just bite the bullet and buy a new version of my current bike (that I am quite happy with) and sell my current bike on.. It could make economical sense, current bike is 9 speed XT, new bike would be 10 speed XT/SLX (Scott scale 620)
. I cant help thinking I should be going 27/29 though so seeking opinions from those who’ve made the jump from 26 to something bigger.

Had a similar issue wih XT wheelset a few years back, stripped for investigation and found the inner hub shell cracked, so returned under warranty. Strip it and have a look, its not too difficult but unless you already own, or can borrow the correct tools (casette tool, cone spanners, wrench, etc) it can quickly turn into an expensive job, although you should probably own that kit anyway and carry in your trail bag, so its a good investment.

MCSA SQL Server 2012 wont do you any harm:
70-461 Querying SQL Server 2012 (will teach you a little bit more than the basics about data querying)

70-462 Administering SQL Server 2012 (installation, management, clustering, failover, etc, good to know if you manage the servers as well)

70-463 Implementing a datawarehouse using SQL Server 2012 (building ETL packages with SSIS, data quality management, hmm,, doubt you will ever use this as support.)

As others have said, you will get a piece of paper saying you know learned this stuff, and it could get you’re foot in the door as a junior SQL developer or DBA, but only doing the job will teach you how to do the job.

Drop me a mail if you decide to do it, I have some learning material I can share.
