I noticed an article in this months MBR about guisborough woods…. I aint rode their for a while so think I'll pop along to tesco now and buy MBR (actually maybe I'll just pop along to my local 24 hour tesco, read the bit that interests me, and save my few spare pennies for ST instead,,,,)

I'm thinking about doing Keilder at some point over the next 2 weeks, any recommendations of bits to ride/avoid?

I am interested in the fact that you sent your wheels back directly to to Madison, who were you in contact with there?

I've got 2 oversize 160mm centrelock rotors with the lockrings if your interested, these are the ones that fit the 'chunky' oversize hubs… £15 posted the pair. Mail me if interested..

Curious thing is that the front wheel is perfect, but the rear one has been trouble for me.

same here, I'm looking for a second hand rear wheel or hub at the moment but I reckon I'm just going to sell the front and build a set of something else with the change…..

If anyone needs a set of spare M775 spokes or a rim I might be able to help 😉

Papawheelie, the bearing cage on my rear wheel was complete but there was one less loose bearing than the shimano doc's said their should be, I put this down to the previous owner of the wheels servicing them but if you've also got a missing bearing then I owe the previous owner an apology with regards to my email, sorry previous owner, maybe you hadn't had them to pieces!!!!

Quality of these wheels is shocking for a Shimano product, all other Shimano stuff I have owned with the exception of these wheels has been indistructable and first class.

I've got an XT rear that has knackered threads where the freehub bolt screws in, funnily enough that had the same symptoms, I couldnt get rid of the play no matter how much I tightened it, until it was too tight,,, dissassembled it and the freehub practically fell off. Turns out the threads were duff! I reckon this would have been a warranty issue had I been the original owner of the wheels..

I agree with aviemoron; cycling shortens and stiffens the hamstrings, running stretches them out….. he might just be stiff from a change of excercise pattern and this might ease over time? tell him to give it another month and stretch his hamstrings 3 times a day (at least) until they ease…

I just wanna give this thread a bump as its becoming more relevant with each fading day of summer and say hell yeah, I totally agree with 2unfit2ride – if trout and smudge can put together a 3 mode (low/mid/high) bike light with similar runtime and similar cost I'd certainly buy one and would trust its quality a great deal more than the DX one.

Racing ralphs are rubbish at 40psi for any purpose,, especially on carbon hardtails. 30psi.

Look at LUST or tubeless ready for lighter, cheaper alternatives.

There would have been uproar if a woman was PM and a man had said "I dont agree with all woman politics". Equality of the sexes? I dont think so, theres too much political correctness for men to have any chance in society. I've got 2 words for Harriet, the second ones off.

There are much worse places than Peterlee, although I would advise living slighty outside of peterlee if you've got a car as the transport links are good (A19 one side, A1 the other); theres miles of sustrans (great for night rides) and other trails around the local coast, rivers, and country parks, and the NY moors are accessible by car and train (guisborough and carlton DH track woods are defintely worth a visit).

Whippets dont exist anymore in Peterlee, funnily they became extinct about the same time peterlee got a new chinese take away..

Ideally I am looking for UST's at 2.1 or below, mostly because I have a Scott carbon frame with very narrow tyre clearance! trying to keep the weight down as well.

What are the lightest UST's, and what do you all use?

I was thinking a bit of rim tape or standard rim strips would make the tyre a tighter fit, I was thinking that non-UST's would also be much lighter..

I work in the softwrae industry so dont need a guilt trip about piracy thanks, like bike theft it happens and we're powerless.

Yeah, the tyres were fairly straight forward to get off after I initially fitted them, which made me think they may be liable to rolling off…. I dont really trust the sidewwalls and general strength of the ralphs after I ripped great big hole in one that was only a few days old, but I must have hit something pretty sharp as the current ons have been fine over al sorts of terain.

I went for carbon over Ti, but really have to question if my carbon frame will be around in 15 years, and still be looking as good like a Titanium one would.

You are commiting an offence under the road traffic act if you do not report an accident, it also provides witness statements for insurers. hindsight is a wonderful thing.

Get some XTR cables or keep your current ones well lubed with a decent wet lube, and think about upgrading to XT/XTR rapidfire shifters.

Ive got a couple of sets of brakes being unused at the moment including some XT’s which I’ll do for more or less the price of SLX. Drop me an email if your interested.

I was just watching the ‘show’ and they were reaching the end of a big song and it was building up as if something was gonna happen and I was expecting the coffin to burst open and the man himself blast out the final chorus, what a cynical, disbelieving, untrusting world we (I?) live in.

The man is gone but the glove lives on! chamone!!
